Nintendo said this week that it'll have a new Mario game for the Wii U to show off at E3 – not exactly the most surprising news, but exciting no less. As it turns out, however, that game will apparently be based on last year's Wii U Mario demo ... which was essentially New Super Mario Bros. Wii with Miis in addition to Mushroom Kingdom locals.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Nintendo said of the Mario game for Wii U, "This is based on the Mario experience that was demonstrated at last year's E3 Expo." What we didn't see of the demo last year was how the game will take advantage of the Wii U's WiiPad while playing against friends, so perhaps that revelation will be enough to woo us beyond our currently tepid excitement level.
