The Eye Tribe aims to bring its eye-tracking tech to Android devices with SDK this June

Eye-tracking technology on Android devices isn't exactly anything new, but Danish startup The Eye Tribe is now looking to broaden its use further with its own new set of tools. The company has been showing off its tech since last year, but it's taken advantage of this week's DEMO Mobile conference to officially launch it, and reveal that its SDK will be available to developers this June (they can sign up now if they're interested). As for the tech itself, it promises to allow for everything from eye-activated logins to gaze-based controls to user engagement monitoring, but it won't simply work on every Android smartphone or tablet. It has some basic hardware requirements that the company says will only cost manufacturers an extra dollar in materials. In the meantime, you can get an idea of some of its capabilities at the company's site linked below.

The Eye Tribe Launches Mobile Eye Control for Android at DEMO Mobile 2013

Danish Eye Tracking Company The Eye Tribe Showcases Its Revolutionizing Technology in the Mobile Frontier Category on the DEMO Mobile Stage

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 17, 2013) - The Eye Tribe today unveils the world's first eye control software for Android smartphones and tablets at DEMO Mobile 2013, a launch event that exclusively concentrates on the best new mobile technologies based on design, innovation and market potential.

According to leading industry experts, eye tracking is inevitably one of the most important interaction inputs for the future of human-computer interaction. Secure eye-activated log-in, automatic scrolling, eye enhanced gaming and user engagement analytics are just a few examples of what the technology has to offer.

"Once in a while we see a company that has the potential to change how we interact with our surroundings and The Eye Tribe is one of them," said Erick Schonfeld, executive producer of DEMO. "They're at the very frontier of this new wave of natural user interfaces. I am personally very excited about their technology and proud to have them launch their product at DEMO Mobile 2013."

"What we show today is only the tip of the iceberg of what eye control will be used for in applications and games," says CEO and co-founder of The Eye Tribe, Sune Alstrup Johansen.

The hardware requirements of the technology can be met at a one dollar bill of materials cost, allowing real eye tracking at consumer friendly prices, and a seamless integration into the next generation of smartphones and tablets. "Unlike the current mobile face and eye detection solutions, our software is capable of submillimeter pupil tracking, which means it is possible to tell where someone is looking on a screen with an accuracy comparable to the size of your fingertip," Sune Alstrup Johansen continues.

The Eye Tribe releases a software development kit for game and app developers with pre-ordering from June 2013 -- Sign ups start today. "We believe that by making our SDK available for all the best developers out there, they will find the best way to utilize eye control on smartphones and tablets," Sune Alstrup Johansen concludes.

ON STAGE AT DEMO MOBILE 2013

The Eye Tribe provides a four-minute live demonstration of the mobile eye control on the DEMO Mobile 2013 stage at 11am, and hereafter hosts live demonstrations at Booth D19 in the DEMO Mobile 2013 pavilion.
