James Pond crowdfund comeback put on ice

James Pond Kickstarter comeback iced

"Pond will be back..." is the aspirational conclusion to the failed James Pond reboot Kickstarter, which was canceled earlier today after earning £16,000 of a £100,000 goal.

"We came into this with little game to show. We appreciate we were asking for a lot of faith from you guys, and our mantra from the start has always been to keep the game design as open as possible, with the fans calling the shots," wrote project manager and producer PJ Belcher about the battered and fried campaign. "This was a risk, and it didn't work out, but I will say a huge thank you to everyone who pledged."

Belcher says the team learned a lot from the campaign. "We believe it'll only take the right game and the right campaign to make James Pond 4 a reality. So stay tuned and we will be back with more news soon," he wrote, concluding they plan on keeping the game's Twitter, Facebook and YouTube channels going.

James Pond was a series that saw success in the '90s across three games: James Pond, James Pond 2: Codename RoboCod and James Pond 3: Operation Starfish. Looks like Pond needs a better hook to catch a fresh audience.
