WRUP: Bugs

It's not always a perfect game. Don't get me wrong -- WoW has demonstrated years of fantastic play, imaginative stories, and nail-biting raids. But occasionally, those little creepy crawly critters cackle into the code and crevices. And isn't a little bug infestation just part of the Halloween season?

So this WRUP, we asked your intrepid WoW Insider staff to share with us their favorite bugs of WoW. What about you? Whether metaphorical or literal, which of the bugs remain your favorite?

Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) I'm playing work on projects all weekend. Ill level up when I finish my china cabenit.

My favorite bug is the spider boss in Naxx.

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) This weekend will likely be spent catching up on reading and getting a bit of writing done on the side, with a little WoW in between, more than likely. Other than that, it's really up in the air - the rest of my family is out of town at the moment, so I may experiment with some new recipes and hopefully not blow up the kitchen in the process. Don't worry, I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING. Really. Bonus answer: I'm going to have to go with the Corrupted Bug outbreak as well. As a player, it was really weird to log on and immediately get whispers from everyone in my guild telling me not to go to any of the capital cities unless I wanted to die. ...of course, being curious about the whole thing I promptly rolled an alt, took it to Ironforge and discovered the place nearly empty, strangely silent, and littered with skeletons and a few hapless individuals trying to carry on with business as usual despite dropping dead every minute or two. One of the strangest things I've ever seen.

Chase Hasbrouck (@alarondruid, @alaronmonk) Next week starts a two week field exercise for me (like camping, but not as fun) and I get to come back from that and pack/move my household (last time for a while, thankfully). I might get some WoW in this week, but mostly I'm working on Steam backlog. Currently playing Brutal Legend, which is equal parts fun and frustrating. Bonus: The bug in Dalaran (on the WOTLK PTR) where a single spot of floor leading to the inn was not solid, leading to multitudes of people plummeting to their deaths.

Dan Desmond (@Antigen_) The sheer amount of gold I have to spend in Hearthstone after the patch wiped everything is actively deterring me from playing the game any time soon. Other than a couple raids this weekend, I've been thinking about picking up Dark Souls for the 360. I'd get it for PC but apparently the port is even worse than Rockstar's port of GTA IV.

I enjoyed the "getting under the world" bugs back before the old world revamp in Cataclysm necessitated fixing most of it. Getting behind Stratholme, under Karazhan, and into old Outlands was a neat look at the process behind creating the polished world that we see every time we log in.

Dawn Moore (@dawnwow) The only gaming I have scheduled is Sunday night raid, but I'll probably do a fair bit more since it's been raining so much. Matticus mentioned that FFVI was coming to iPhone in the near future, which means I'm likely to go dig out my GBA copy and play it on the DS Lite. It's not quite the original SNES version (which I had until 2009 -- those were truly hard times) but it's pretty good. Exclusive Dawn bonus question: who's your favorite FFVI character? Mine is Shadow.

The best bug of all time was the multiple Ruthers bug (http://wow.joystiq.com/2013/02/25/a-farewell-to-yaks/) from earlier this expansion. Never was there a more joyous time in the history of World of Warcraft than when one could run alongside a herd of galloping Rutherses in the high grasses of Kun'Lai.

Elizabeth Wachowski (@leeatwaterlives) I'm getting a little burned out on Borderlands 2, but I'm almost done with the official content for Skyrim, so I might start exploring the Falskaar and Moonpath to Elsweyr mod content.

I'm a fan of when ships and zeppelins go off course and dump their riders somewhere weird, like Stonetalon Mountains.

Joe Perez (@lodurzj) This weekend my tabletop group is coming over for our weekly quality time. This weekend it involves Murlocs.... I... I can't say anymore! My hunter alt just got high enough item level to do the SoO LFRs, so I'm going to hunter it up! Also, I've been working on a new painting challenge this month, this time it is Trollkin Fennblades. If anyone is into mini-wargaming or miniatures you can follow the progress at http://www.wgconsortium.com/index.cfm/paintingmodelingforums/discussions/258/8670/ or on my Flickr.

For the bonus question, my favorite bug of all time still remains the Corrupted Blood bug from back in the day. I mean, a disease from Zul'Gurub makes it out of the instances, affecting the ENTIRE World of Warcraft population at the time, effectively becoming Hakkar's Revenge. I mean, looking back on it, what other game bugs have caused an organization like the Center of Disease Control to become interested in possible statistics in order to research epidemics? If that wasn't enough, the bug also served as inspiration for the zombie outbreak in 2008 before the release of Wrath of the Lich King, and for anyone that got to experience that, man was that fun!

Kristin Marshall (@kristin) I usually raid on Sundays, but we downed Garrosh last night for the first time. Early ending to the raid week ftw! I'll get into Flex tonight and then probably bust out RL games later this weekend... perhaps War of the Ring or LOTR: The Card Game.

Bonus: Like Joe, my favorite bug has to be the Corrupted Blood outbreak from way back when. So epic.

Lisa Poisso (@lisapoisso) My daughter has become obsessed with Warsong Gulch. I doubt I'll be able to get anywhere near my own computer this weekend. Bonus question: Any visual bug that lets you morph into some unintended abomination.

Matt "Matticus" Low (@matticus) For us Canadians, it's our Thanksgiving weekend! I know what I'll be doing most of this long weekend -- Playing more Hearthstone! After that unexpected Tuesday ranking reset, I managed to work my way back up to the Masters level. There must be an MMR rating of sorts that's hidden. It took me around 115 wins to get to Masters 1, but about 30 to do it again the second time this week.

Not sure if Michael Gray's referring to legit bugs or monster bugs. There was an awesome graphical bug on the PTR not too long ago that involved Wild Mushrooms not having a limit to their size. Managed to grow them to hilariously large proportions.

Matt Walsh (@Rhidach) Going to play some Minecraft and some Wind Waker HD. For the latter I've become obsessed with completing the Nintendo Gallery which was intensely streamlined in the remake, so it's actually doable in one playthrough. The whole selfies-in-a-bottle system is really helpful for that goal too, surprisingly.

The historical WoW bug that always amused the hell out of me was the Reckoning bug. Although that was less a bug and more poor anticipation of how something could be exploited!

Megan O'Neill (@slowpoker) My guild is continuing attempts on Garrosh 25N (we wipe like this sometimes) on Sunday, but otherwise I'm having fun casually playing my hardcore witch doctor through Nightmare mode now. I might be playing D3 too much as every time I peek into Hearthstone, I find myself spamming the spacebar trying to skip the tutorial roleplay. I've always been more of a collector when it came to old card games rather than a player, anyhow.

Bonus: Kovok is the best bug evar, though Magmaw bending over backwards was funniest cyber-bug I've seen. The bug I hate the most in MoP is after they "fixed" treant targeting for moonkin, whatever they did broke Doomguards, so on heroic Horridon, despite having all my DoTs and junk on Horridon, my Doomguard would go shoot the pink dino for 1 minute. Thanks, DG, I don't know know what I would do without all your damage on the most useless target of that fight.

Robin Torres (@cosmiclaurel) I'll be pet battling, most likely. Bonus: I loved the Menethil Harbor boat bugs that allowed us to have Captain Placeholder for a while.

Sarah Pine (@ilaniel) I'll be in WoW and finishing up my Final Fantasy Tactics replay. I'm currently stuck on the Gate of Limberry Castle because Celia and Lede don't want to cast Ultima on Ramza. Come ON, ladies!

Not really a bug so much as a lack of implementation, but my two favorites were from the Cataclysm alpha: in the worgen starting zone, before the carriage that you ride down the hill had been implemented, your character was just supposed to surf down the hill but more often than not it just crashed spectaculary and you had to throw yourself off the cliff and die, then corpse run to the graveyard point where the quest was supposed to end and rez. Also, the top hat model wasn't there yet, so you just ran around as a worgen with a little checkered box on your head.

As for a REAL bug, the stag-stacking druid travel form was glorious while it lasted.

The weekend is the perfect time to kick back, relax and enjoy some game time. Are you an achievement junkie? Can't get enough raiding? Rolling a new alt? Considering taking the leap into roleplaying? Whatever your favorite way to play World of Warcraft, let us know in the comments what you're playing this weekend!
