The Queue: War Eternal

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Matthew Rossi will be your host today.

So if you're not down for growly scream-metal, probably don't watch that video. I've been into the band for the past couple of months, though, and just got their new album. So for those of you who like growly sceam-metal, there you go.

Let's do some Queue. Let's rhyme less.

morvackthemountmimic asks:
What were your "good ol' days" of playing wow? For me, it was wrath. I was with a small family owned (not my family) raiding guild. We were able to form an alliance with a few other guilds on our server (odd sense we were horde), and get some pretty respectable gear. I was doing 6500 dps as a balance druid.

It would have to be vanilla, to be honest. I was raiding in the most progressed Alliance guild on my servers (Azjol-Nerub and then Norgannon) and I pretty much saw everything up to Naxxramas 40 (we didn't kill Sapph or KT back then). It's not that I think the game was better then -- I really do not -- but it's when I first started playing and when my first memories of it were formed. And it's when I learned that people will never stop and loot things. Core hounds going unlooted, mass hysterics, anarchy.

It's funny how I still compare raid mechanics to places like Blackwing Lair and Molten Core. Fights have gotten far more complex, and I've been raiding pretty much since those days so I've seen a lot of them, but for me it's where I learned how the game works, and even with all the changes over the years it's a very strong memory.

smartazjb0y asks:
In the new Alpha Build, one of the changes is that apparently under the "scenarios" section is a list of ALL the old 5mans.

Any guesses as to what they might be doing with them? Maybe making max-level versions of those 5mans that you can run as a scenario?

Alex mentioned this yesterday in a post, and I've been wondering about it since. So I decided to hop onto the Alpha and find out for myself. There's currently Lorewalker Fu who offers a host of scenarios to level 91 and above characters, Lorewalker Shin who offers heroic scenarios, and Lorewalker Han who offers older raid finder raids. All of these require you be level 91 to queue for them. None of these are versions of old dungeons, but they do have pretty much all the Mists of Pandaria scenarios, heroic scenarios, and raid finders. So whether or not we're going to get old five mans as scenarios certainly seems possible, but not yet implemented. (There are no scenarios under the group finder on the Alpha.)

Notamoose asks:
Any chance of them putting in a hunter class quest for Legendary Pet in Warcraft like the locks got there love this expansion?

To be fair, hunters got multiple exotic pet tames in Cataclysm so it might be some other class' turn first. Maybe mages could get to tame an ice elemental or something.

GendouKnepper asks:
Q4Q: Does Warlords seem to - or at least the Horde starting zone - live up to the 'SAVAGE' hype? Does it feel different?

It's still very much a zone in progress, but my main take on it so far is that it's very much a stranger in a strange land setting. Yes, it's a hostile, frozen wilderness that also has some downright terrifying vulcanism going on, but its also a place where things happen that have nothing to do with the main storyline - caravans get raided, monsters wander the tundra, there's a lot to explore and experience. I don't know if I'd say it's savage (tm) but it definitely feels to a degree like you're alone in a hostile place. I think the garrison can be more a part of that feeling - the idea that you need to build this place as a fall back because the situation is dire and the location you're in could crush you at any moment. But it's definitely already present.

John14 asks:
With the new feature coming that lets you summon a random favorite mount, is there a limit on how many mounts you can flag as favorites? I would love to hit the button and have one of 225 show up.

Honestly, I don't know if you can select every mount and just go with it. I selected 42 mounts before I got tired of going through and selecting, so there's a decent amount of options all told. The mount selection seems to be somewhat smart -- if you're in a place where a flying mount is necessary to get down, that's what it selects. It's pretty cool, honestly.

Daniel Steinhardt asks:
How unstable is the alpha at this time?

For an alpha test it's unbelievably stable. It crashes, but not as bad as the Mists of Pandaria beta did when I first got into it.

Razwick 82 asks:
QftQ It just occurred to me, the SoO FoS garrosh kill offers a mount. This, as far as I'm aware, is the first time an ahead of the curve has offered a mount. Do you think this may be because they anticipated that it would be a long time before 6.0 and thus more people would be able to get it?

Well, they didn't really have Ahead of the Curve achieves before Mists of Pandaria. In previous raids (like ICC) you got a mount for doing a specific meta achievement. (This is still true in Siege, you get the Spawn of Galakras for that.) I think it's more to do with there being a really compelling reason to offer a mount this time around, but it's possible that the idea that things were done the way they were because it was expected more people could do it this time was a factor.

And that's the Queue for today.
