Soundbars may never deliver the level of quality a proper home theater will, but Yamaha's YSP-1400 still does a respectable job of delivering the dialog, music and explosions you want to hear in your favorite films. The YSP-1400 doesn't have a separate subwoofer, with Yamaha building the woofers into the feet of the soundbar instead. If you're worried that they'll block your TV's IR ports, don't -- there's a built in IR repeater to take care of business. Audioholics says the YSP-1400 delivers "mediocre surround sound" with "distorted" lows and highs. In spite of these flaws, Digital Trends notes "the system did showcase excellent dimension in the soundstage." While the YSP-1400 may not win best in show, Home Theater Review says it "delivers an extraordinary value" if you're looking for something minimal. However, if you want something a bit cheaper and more surround-sound like, Vizio's S4251W-B4 is a solid option.

Audioholics Nov 27, 2013

The Yamaha YSP-1400 is attempting to bring Yamaha's vaunted "beaming" technology to the masses at a price they can actually afford. While they have done all that, they had to cut so many corners that is seems that the magic has been lost.

That said, we think Yamaha has really got something going with its sound projector design, and those looking for an engaging audio experience from a stand-alone solution will want to give the YSP-1400 a serious look.
