  • Dead Island 2 collector's edition contents up for public vote

Deep Silver is polling Dead Island series fans to determine the contents of the Dead Island 2 Collector's Edition prior to the sequel's multiplatform launch next year. Available options range from standard fare (art books, character figurines, digital content) to the unexpected (back scratchers, beer coolers, alarm clocks, character-themed maneki-neko) to the outright impossible ("a real zombie"). Dead Island: Riptide's controversial torso statue is not an option, unsurprisingly. Voting ends July 14, so make sure you vote for the "real zombie" option before then. Assuming their bio-technology is able to keep up with production, Deep Silver could make a real-world zombie apocalypse happen, and you can help. [Image: Deep Silver]

Need cloth maps to go with your RPGs? Divinity: Original Sin's Collector's Edition will weave you a pretty picture of the world of Rivellon on June 20, the day fans move on from Early Access and begin clicking through the finished game for PC and Mac. If you've already got enough fictional universes pinned to your wall, there's still a fair amount of stuff in the box: beyond two Steam keys for Original Sin, there's a key for Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity, a soundtrack CD, recipe cards to assist with crafting in Original Sin, a two-sided poster, a pouch of dice, a themed pack of playing cards and stickers. The related press release notes there are only 1,500 Collector's Edition sets left, so if you're interested, ponder the $94.99 bundle over at Larian Studios' Vault. [Image: Larian Studios]

Amazon is now taking pre-orders for the upcoming Homeworld Remastered Collector's Edition for the low, low price of $99.99. Well, it's low compared to the cost of real-life space flight, anyway. The Collector's Edition, as revealed by Gearbox at PAX East earlier this year, includes a Mothership replica statue roughly one foot tall. Along with the statue, Amazon notes the Collector's Edition includes "a revised Historical Briefings and Artwork book includes the backstory of the Homeworld universe, some newly uncovered details from the game's creators plus a dazzling collection of original concept art by Rob Cunningham and Aaron Kambeitz," as well as a die-cast Angel Moon Homeworld keychain. Unfortunately, Amazon's release date is a placeholder, so we're still unsure exactly when Homeworld Remastered will blast off. [Image: Sierra Entertainment]

A Homeworld Remastered Collector's Edition is prepping for landing, developer Gearbox announced at its PAX East 2014 panel today. The special edition will include, among other things, a replica statue based on the game's Mothership, pictured above. The figure stands at more than 12 inches tall, is USB-powered, and lights up. Gearbox polled fans last month asking what they'd like to see in a Collector's Edition, and it looks like people chose "big spaceship." Can't say we blame them. [Image: Sierra Entertainment]

Wolfenstein: The New Order Panzerhund Edition runs $100 and includes an 8-inch, fully articulated Panzerhund statue, a folder containing 11 "classified" documents, 14 alternate-reality vintage postcards, three patches, dog tags and a steelbook case – but it does not contain the game. The Panzerhund Edition is a collection of premium items, with the game, Wolfenstein: The New Order, sold separately. The special edition is limited to 5,000 worldwide and each one comes with an individually stamped number plate. Pre-orders are open now, with an estimated ship date of May 20. Are you planning on picking up Diablo III: Reaper of Souls on March 25? While you're waiting, you may want to check out Hearthstone, Blizzard's latest game release. Players that have pre-ordered Reaper of Souls will find a treat waiting for them -- Expert Card Packs waiting to be opened and played. Both the Digital and Retail Standard editions will get you one free Expert Card Pack, while Digital Deluxe and Retail Collector's Editions offer three Expert Card Packs. If you have yet to pre-order Reaper of Souls, the offer will be available to those who purchase the game after its launch as well. The card packs require a Battle.net account to be redeemed, and there is a limit of five Expert Card Packs per Battle.net account. Players who have pre-ordered either the Digital or Digital Deluxe editions of the game should have their cards available immediately -- if you are waiting for the retail version, you'll find codes in the box to redeem in exchange for your cards. Check out the official post for more information about the offer, the rewards, and how to get started with Hearthstone, if you haven't already tried it out for yourself.

  • Dread Raven, Dread Hatchling live with Warlords preorders

    03.10.2014

Preorders for Warlords of Draenor are now live, as well as the level 90 boost feature. And for those that pre-purchase the Digital Deluxe version of the expansion, you'll have your Dread Raven mount and Dread Hatchling pet waiting for you in your inbox. The mount is a flying, armored and far more ornate version of the Raven Lord mount from Sethekk Halls, and the pet is a baby version of the two. If the hatchling weren't adorable enough on its own, try summoning your Dread Raven while the hatchling is out and you'll see just how much the little guy adores its horrific armored death machine of a momma. And there's an Easter Egg for those with the Raven Lord mount -- summoning the Raven Lord will also warrant a happy reaction from the little guy. But just because he's adorable doesn't mean the hatchling doesn't pack a punch in Pet Battles -- check out Warcraft Pets for more information on the hatchling and its attacks, and take a look at the gallery below for more screenshots of both pet and mount in action. Update: Heads up for pet collectors -- the Dread Hatchling can be caged and sold on the Auction House, or traded to other players.

  • Gearbox polling Homeworld fans for Remastered Collection contents

Gearbox Software is polling fans of the classic real-time strategy game Homeworld to determine the Collector's Edition contents of its upcoming compilation Homeworld Remastered Edition. Announced last year, Homeworld Remastered Edition updates Homeworld and Homeworld 2 with high-res textures and support for HD resolutions, among other improvements suggested by fans and modders. The collection will also feature the original versions of both Homeworld games, and proposed Collector's Editions will include a replica Mothership and other memorabilia. Gearbox notes that further details will be revealed soon. Gearbox purchased Homeworld's intellectual property rights following publisher THQ's bankruptcy in 2012. Gearbox later leveraged its purchase to fund Homeworld: Shipbreakers, an intended series successor that now carries the official Homeworld license. [Image: Gearbox Software]

  • Fat Chocobo dashing out of Weight Watchers and into Final Fantasy XIV

Face it: You have gone far too long without seeing a giant chicken's giant butt. Happily, Square Enix has your well-being in mind, for the studio has posted a preview of an upcoming Final Fantasy XIV mount that is brimming with chunky avian posterior visuals. A brief and bizarre post on the official site introduces "Fat Chocobo," a special mount that would rather not move unless it has food comically dangled in front of its beefy face. The chocobo mount is confirmed as a special goodie for those who order the PlayStation 4 collector's edition of FFXIV as well as those who have purchased one of the other CEs. No word as of yet what the studio will do to compensate players if said mount collapses after taking six rapid steps in succession.

Bandai Namco takes the wraps off its Dark Souls 2 Collector's Edition in the new trailer above, giving players a closer look at the $120 package's featured bonus material prior to its release next month. The Collector's Edition includes the Black Armor Edition of Dark Souls 2, which bundles the game disc with a soundtrack CD featuring music from composer Motoi Sakuraba. The package also includes an art book, a cloth map, and a 12-inch PVC warrior knight figurine, which seems large and solid enough to bludgeon someone with. Note: product is not recommended for bludgeoning purposes. The Dark Souls 2 Collector's Edition is currently sold out at Amazon, but is still available in limited quantities at NewEgg and other retailers accepting pre-orders. Dark Souls 2 launches for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on March 11. A release date for the PC version has not been announced. [Image: Bandai Namco]

  • Patch 5.4.7: Dread Hatchling now appearing in Pet Journal

    by

    02.18.2014

The pet experts at Warcraft Pets have discovered that the Dread Hatchling, one of the rewards for the Digital Deluxe or Collector's Edition versions of Warlords of Draenor, is now visible in the Pet Journal for players. Although the pet is not obtainable at this time, you can view all attacks for the pet, which includes two interesting new abilities -- Shadow Talon and Anzu's Blessing. While we don't know exactly how the Dread Hatchling will hold up in Pet Battles just yet, I'm looking forward to adding the little guy to my rotation of pets. As with prior Collector's Edition pets, the Dread Hatchling is a rare, so he should be pretty devastating. Unfortunately, while you can easily view pets that you haven't collected in game, there's no way to check for mounts -- however, Wowhead is showing that the Reins of the Dread Raven have also been added to the game files with 5.4.7 as well. Obviously both pet and mount are not obtainable at the present time, but the fact that both were added in along with everything else in patch 5.4.7 suggests that perhaps pre-orders for Warlords are on the way soon.

  • Must See HDTV for the week of February 17th: Winter Olympics, Daytona 500 and Strider

    02.17.2014

This is the final week of the Winter Olympics, with the closing ceremonies scheduled for Sunday night. Bob Costas is back (with less creepy demon-possessed eye infection stare) plus plenty of action including bobsled, short-track speed skating, hockey finals and of course, curling. Game of Thrones season three will hit the shelves on Blu-ray, so whether you're looking for a recap or just getting your first look in 1080p, now is the time. Racing fans can also look forward to the start of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season with the Daytona 500 on Sunday, while gamers can enjoy a remake of the classic game Strider on current and next-gen systems this week -- although honestly, many of us are just trying to finish off House of Cards before the spoilers become impossible to avoid or filter out. Usually we don't point out the late-night weekly shows, but tonight Jimmy Fallon takes over the Tonight Show chair from Jay Leno. Check after the break for trailers plus our weekly listing of what to look out for in TV, Blu-ray and gaming.

  • Dark Souls 2 pre-orders now include early access to useful weapons

    by
    Earnest Cavalli

    02.12.2014

As if guaranteed defeat and crushing frustration weren't enough to tempt players into pre-ordering Dark Souls 2, Namco Bandai has sweetened the pot by offering early weapon access to those who pre-order the game's Black Armor or Collector's Edition incarnations. Far from a game-breaking boon, this bonus offers players a choice between five weapons and their complementary shields that would otherwise not be available until a few hours into Dark Souls 2. None of the armaments on offer appear to provide any spectacular bonuses, but they are a drastic improvement over the arguably functional weapons players would otherwise start their quest carrying. You'll find a full list of these readily available killing implements past the break. As mentioned above, earning these weapons early will require players to pre-order either the Black Armor or Collector's Edition versions of Dark Souls 2. We covered the contents of the $120 Collector's Edition in September, but the Black Armor Edition includes a special metal case and a soundtrack disc alongside the game for $60. Neither the Black Armor Edition nor the Collector's Edition have yet been announced for the PC iteration of Dark Souls 2, though that's to be expected given that the game's release date is still in question. • Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Collector's Edition content revealed

    02.01.2014

With all the talk of Warlords of Draenor and Hearthstone around here, you might have forgotten about Blizzard's other expansion release next month. Diablo III: Reaper of Souls makes it debut on March 25, and the contents of the physical Collector's Edition were finally revealed earlier this week for all to see. Purchasers of the Collector's Edition will receive several digital items, including the Treasure Goblin Pet for World of Warcraft, StarCraft II character portraits and Malthael Decals, and a Spectral Hound minion with a set of aesthetic artifacts -- helms and weapons -- to be used with Diablo III's new transmogrification feature. Of course, this is all available with the Digital Deluxe version of the game as well, so why would you want a physical Collector's Edition? In addition to the digital goodies found in the Digital Deluxe edition, those purchasing the Collector's Edition will get a Behind-the-Scenes DVD and Blu-Ray two-disc set featuring interviews, round-table discussions and behind-the-scenes commentary on the game's development, the official Reaper of Souls soundtrack, The Art of Reaper of Souls -- a gorgeous hardcover book featuring early sketches, artwork, and 3D renders from the game, as well as a Malthael mouse pad. The Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Collector's Edition is available for pre-order on Amazon for $79.99, as well as at a variety of other retailers. As with all Collector's Editions, supplies are limited -- if you want the physical version and all the bonuses it has to offer, you may want to pre-order your copy sooner rather than later.

  • The Elder Scrolls Online answers a variety of questions (and the CE question)

    01.31.2014

If you've read about The Elder Scrolls Online lately, you surely heard about the whole collector's edition thing. The latest batch of answers for community questions tackles that head-on, stressing that the only exclusive for Imperials which other races won't have is a single skill line. That line will be balanced along with all other racial skill lines, so players who decide to go the Imperial route will just have a bit of extra visual flair, not a gameplay advantage. No mention is made of the cross-faction races for pre-orders, however. Aside from the obvious question and a few corresponding bits of confusion, the array of questions cover topics from open PvP in Cyrodiil to death gates to skill resources. If you're eagerly anticipating the game or just want to see more clarification on the whole function of the Imperial option, take a look at the full set of answers for a clearer picture of the CE bonuses and the game as a whole.

  • Tamriel Infinium: Fleecing Elder Scrolls Online fans with preorders

Are you as excited as I am about the Imperial Edition of the Elder Scrolls Online? When I introduced the announcement to my friends, I said something closer to, "Welp, this is a thing." Don't get me wrong; I am looking forward to the launch, and I will likely get the Imperial Edition because I want to play an Imperial. I played one in Skyrim and Oblivion; I want to play one in ESO, too. Some players are upset that if you get this collector's edition, the Imperial race is open to any faction. Even some of my friends are annoyed. Another issue that struck them hard -- probably harder than the Imperial race addition -- was the preorder bonuses. And I'm not talking about the five-day early access. No, the hate swelled over the preorder ability to play any race in any faction. I'm sure that some of them would say that I am being obtuse, but I really can't wrap my head around why they seemed more upset about this bonus more than previous bonuses given for MMORPG preorders.

The first expansion for Diablo 3, which ushers in an era free of auction houses, is set to launch on March 25, digitally and in store. Today, Blizzard has revealed the contents of the Reaper of Souls expansion, retail-exclusive Collector's Edition box set, featuring a variety of the company's typical special offerings. Like previous special editions of its games, the collection will include a soundtrack, behind-the-scenes DVD (and Blu-Ray), art book, themed mouse pad and in-game content for its library of software. The in-game content includes a "Spectral Hound minion" and aesthetic artifacts, which allow players to "transmogrify" player gear with a thematic visual flair in Diablo 3; a "treasure goblin pet" which explores World of Warcraft's Azeroth through a series of portals; and special player portraits and decals in StarCraft 2. Blizzard notes "Reaper of Souls Collector's Edition is available in limited quantities" and only at select retailers.

Bethesda announced a special collector's edition version of The Elder Scrolls Online, called the Imperial Edition. The $99.99 bundle includes a couple of physical goodies, such as a 12" Molag Bal statue, a 224-page Improved Emperor's Guide to Tamriel and a 21" x 26" map of Tamriel. That's in addition to its bonus digital content offerings, namely the ability to play an an Imperial in the game with a white Imperial horse, Rings of Mara content and a Mudcrab vanity pet. Players can also forgo the tangible bonuses by picking up the digital Imperial Edition for $79.99, which includes the base game and extra digital content. Really, saving a couple bucks and keeping our Mudcrab friend by our side sounds just swell to us. An image promoting the Imperial Edition first appeared on Amazon's listing for Dishonored yesterday, and can be found after the break. Bethesda also issued a new eight-minute-long "Arrival" trailer, seen above. The Elder Scrolls Online is set to launch April 4 for PC and Mac with the Xbox One and PS4 versions coming in June. It was confirmed this week that the Xbox One version will require an Xbox Live Gold subscription, while the PS4 version will not need a PlayStation Plus membership.
