Grand Theft Auto 4 is on sale for $10 for Xbox Live Gold subscribers this week. The digital copy is a 6.51 GB download, so players taking advantage of the deal may have to clear a little room on their hard drives. The game's two big pieces of DLC, The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, are also discounted to 400 MSP ($5) and 800 MSP ($10), respectively. In that case, forget what we said earlier; you'll probably need 10.16 GB of space on your Xbox 360's hard drive this week.

The ever-gluttonous Games on Demand stuffed more unsuspecting morsels into this gob this week, including the spicy pawn salad that is Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen. The fresh-faced game'n'expansion version of the 2012 RPG is now on Xbox Live priced $40, joined by also-new arrivals Star Trek and the Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection at $30 and $35 respectively. Keeping the dining descriptions going, our Dark Arisen review said "if you didn't bite before, then Capcom's "souped-up re-release" is "easily the best introduction to the land of Gransys." Sounds yummy.

The last one-day offering in Xbox's Ultimate sale is full of fresh-faced Games on Demand. The oldest discounted download is just nine months young, and there are four of 2013's big babies to proudly take home. That quartet includes the brilliant BioShock Infinite, which skyhooks down to $40. Take a Hamilton out of that and you get today's tags of $30 for Gears of War: Judgment and Metal Gear Rising. Also representing the class of 2013 is Tomb Raider, an absolute steal at $20. Making up the rest of today's deals are Hitman: Absolution and XCOM: Enemy Unknown. The former is just $10, while Joystiq's No.2 game of 2012 is certainly worth a gander at $20. As for the week-long deals, you've got until July 8 to get down and get with. Red Alert 3 is one of the inclusions at $5, surely enough excuse to link this video, if only for George Takei and that line. As for the other ten, report to Major Nelson for the full list of deals.

  • Xbox Games on Demand manager explains why it lags on day-and-date launches

    by
    Alexander Sliwinski

    03.22.2013

Xbox Games on Demand Senior Business Manager Erik Yeager noted concern with console sales as the reason the 360 doesn't sell games via Xbox Live on launch day. Microsoft's Games on Demand has been noticeably lagging behind Sony, Nintendo - and, yes, PCs in general - on digitally distributed titles launching day-and-date alongside retail releases."We have a lot of strong partnerships with retailers," said Yeager at yesterday's MIT Business in Games conference. "We really need them to do a lot for us. They're the ones out there selling the consoles, selling the peripherals and, in this time, we're trying to figure out how to fit that in to the whole digital landscape shift. We're just taking a bit of a measured pace with it."Microsoft's Xbox 360 has been the top selling console in the United States for the past 26 months. Asked if the company would have moved faster on day-and-date if that weren't the case, Yeager responded, "I probably can't comment on that one."He continued, "We really strongly believe it's important to have these retail partnerships and the ability to sell our console is the most critical thing for us. If you don't sell the console, you can't sell anything else."Yeager pointed out that Games on Demand titles have gradually decreased their lag time between retail and digital distribution on the service. Sony's PlayStation 4 has already outlined a heavy digital distribution strategy. Microsoft is expected to announce the plans for its upcoming console in the coming months.

The entire Call of Duty Xbox 360 line-up launches a charge of concessions in today's Games on Demand sale - well, almost. The very first CoD is MIA, mainly because it's on XBLA and not GoD, which seems like reason enough for draft evasion to us.Calls of Duties 2 and 3, Modern Warfares 1 and 2, and World at War are all down to $9.99, while Black Ops makes a 60 percent drop to $19.99. 2011's Modern Warfare 3 comes in at $29.99, and last of all is Black Ops 2 with $10 off at $49.99.And don't forget, a heap of other Games on Demand are staying discounted until March 4, each one priced at $4.99 or less.

Look out, it's a hungry horde of Resident Evil games infecting Day 3 of Xbox Live's Games on Demand sale, with five of the nibblers dangerously discounted. Shuffling along at half-price are Residents Evils 4-6 and Operation Raccoon City, taking 4 and 5 to to $9.99 and the other two to $19.99. Savings-wise, the pick of the bunch is Code Veronica, with today's discount digesting 75 percent of its insides and only leaving behind a stump of $4.99.As ever - well, until March 4 - there's a groaning mass of other Games on Demand at sale-severed prices, and one of those groaners is Grid. With the second Grid game nearing the finish line, $4.99 is a decent price at which to dive into Codemasters' racer series.

Microsoft's week-long Ultimate Game Sale for Games on Demand content makes its opening pitch today, and first up to the plate is Master Chief of the Halo Space Marines. It's not quite as big a discount for the Chief's most recent adventure; Halo 4 shifts its price to $39.99 for a 33 percent discount.Update: A number of other games are also on sale, including Grid, Call of Juarez, BioShock, and Tomb Raider: Legend. 02.22.2013

Xbox Live's Games on Demand has the value of convenience, but the games are frequently priced well above their prices at retail. That issue will temporarily be resolved from February 26 through March 4, with the "Ultimate Game Sale."Specific prices aren't offered, but games are being marked down up to 75% for the sale, and the list includes, like, everything. All the Calls of Duties, the Halos, the Batmen, Borderlandses, Metal Gear Solid HD, Dead Island, The Orange Box, etc. Even El Shaddai. Check the list after the break for many more.Yes, these could all be discounted 1% and one game nobody cares about discounted 75%, but XBLM will be worth a look next week just in case.

This week, you'll save on undead content on Xbox Live. Well, the content is inanimate, but it's about undead things. That includes Zombie Apocalypse, Zombie Driver HD, All Zombies Must Die, avatar and Gamerpic sets from Black Ops Zombies, and, for some reason, the Dead Rising 2 Ninja Skills Pack. They're all half off until the 18th. NBA 2K13 and its extras are also half off, unrelated to the zombie thing. There's also a bunch of stuff on Games on Demand today, including everything from the high profile Kinect Disneyland Adventures to the all but forgotten Quantum Theory.

Well, we say "sneaks" in the headline, but Dishonored could just as easily stab and/or blunderbuss its way onto Xbox Live Games on Demand – it's all a matter of personal preference, really. At any rate, Arkane Studios' whale-punk powerhouse will be available through Microsoft's digital distribution platform on Tuesday, January 29, for an indeterminate price.Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2013 will also be available on Games on Demand next Tuesday, accompanied by Catherine's European, Middle Eastern and Asian releases on the service. Meanwhile, Just Dance 4's "Dance Pack 4" DLC boogies onto XBLA for 240 MS Points, while various Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption DLC packs are marked down by 50 percent until January 28.So! If you've been dishonored by a dangerous hunt, or are feeling max-payne over Catherine, or were told to "just dance for redemption" at gunpoint during a bank heist, Tuesday might be an emotional trigger day for you. Otherwise, enjoy your digitally distributed whatever.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is available now from the the Xbox Marketplace's Games on Demand section. All it will cost you is a sectoid arm and a muton foot, which converts roughly to $59.99 (in the United States). For those not stuck in underground bunkers while the planet is under attack, more cost-effective hard copy options can be delivered to your door for $10 less (or more). But how you want to go spending your hard-earned alien limbs for one of the best games of last year is your choice, Commander.
