Last Friday, amidst a chorus of laughs and tears, the Joystiq Podcast shuffled into oblivion to make room for the forthcoming Joystiq Show. But, against all odds, the nigh-4K-member-strong Joystiq Podcast Appreciation Group lives on, even founding a new home at Ning. Better yet, the JPAG has told us they won't recognize the existence of The Joystiq Show, as JSAG sounds "stupid." ... Yeah, they're real sweethearts. Membership is free, unlike the first group, which forced you to trade away a precious shard of your soul by signing up for Facebook. Go, register, and make yourself at home!

  • Vivox moves beyond voice chat for gaming

Vivox is going to have to change their site's front page very soon: " Vivox. We Put the Best Voice Chat in Games. And that is all we do." That won't hold true for much longer, as Vivox has announced plans to bring integrated voice chat to social applications. The Social Voice Partner Program is currently being demonstrated with Facebook, Google Wave, and Ning and will be available to all social application developers this May. Social networking sites and applications are growing by leaps and bounds, and Vivox is getting on board early: "With the explosion of the social Web, there is rising consumer-driven demand for integrated voice," said Rob Seaver, CEO of Vivox. "Vivox anticipated the emergence of this trend and this new program will lend communications expertise to social application developers. Our vision truly is to 'let the Web talk'- and let that experience be as high-quality and natural as it is in real life."

You can participate in our Macworld Expo discussion, find out where TUAW bloggers will be at the show, and even find out about possible meetups in San Francisco during Macworld. It's all free, and we'd love to have you join in on the fun. If you already have a login for the Macworld 2010 site, simply ask to be added to the group. For those who don't have a login, you can sign up by clicking the appropriate Sign Up link on the right side of the page.

  • One Shots: A well-balanced player

We've seen some interesting things from role-players, but this one strikes us as being just about perfect for a monk in EverQuest II. Settle in, focus, find your center, combine all into your chi. Relax. Of course, if you're not into that, you could always just think of The Karate Kid. Today's EverQuest II One Shots comes to us from Ning, who writes: After a good fight a Kung-Fu specialist has to relax. To avoid the vermin, Ning meditates on a tree stump until his powers are replenished. If you're playing an MMO we don't see often - or even one we see regularly - we want to see your screenshots! Who knows - you may recruit some new players to check out your game. Just email those screens to us at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the game, and whatever you'd like to say about the screenshot. We'll post it out here and give you the credit for sending it in.%Gallery-9798%

  • The latest iPhone Twittering, on a map

I have a confession to make: even though I was there at the iPhone launch, I haven't actually purchased an iPhone. Yes, I'm part of that supposedly small (though I think there are quite a few of us) group of Mac fans who have chosen not to shell out $2k over the next few years to own a little piece of the revolution. But I still want to be on the cutting edge of the iPhone zeitgeist and that's why I think this little mashup is so cool. Reader ADM tells us that he's squeezed together Google Maps, Twitter, and Ning to bring you a geographic, browsable representation of what people are saying on Twitter about the iPhone. Now you too, even if you don't have an iPhone, can stay up to date about what people are saying and where they're saying it.What's that? You don't care about the iPhone? And even if you do, you think something like this is completely silly and unnecessary? Touché. But ADM has also included the source code through Ning, so you're welcome to make your own mashup about whatever you want. Meanwhile, I and mine will continue to listen intently through the tubes, and hope for our own little bit of salvation: a price drop.
