As promised, Doom's multiplayer open beta has arrived. It's been available to download the past few days and now you can actually play the thing. Contents include two maps and two play mode (team deathmatch and warpath), while weapons range from plasma rifles, to shotguns, lightning guns and (yes) rocket launchers. The Gauss Cannon also makes an appearance as a power weapon, and you'll even be able to play as a demon, if that's your choice in life. It's live starting today on PS4, Xbox One and Steam. It's going to be a busy month for betas: Overwatch's own is happening right now, while both GOW4 and Mirror's Edge will kick off next week.

Continuing the spirit of Erica's crazy USB peripheral posts from last week, now comes news that one of the most tragic of Mac deprivations is finally at an end. I speak, of course, of the lack of Mac drivers for the USB Missile Launchers released back in 2005, and available from ThinkGeek.com. Refusing to stand for the gross injustice of the Windows-only software, David Wilson has hacked his USB Missile Launcher driver for OS X. His driver seems to work both for the original USB Missile Launcher and a similar USB Rocket Launcher.David's USB Missile Launcher Software is Open Source and a free download, though of course you'll need the launchers which run about $40 and are sadly out of stock at the moment at ThinkGeek. Nonetheless, the day has finally dawned for Mac cubicle warriors to compete with their Windows counterparts on an even playing field. A big TUAW 'attaboy for David!

If you've played the demo, you got a good taste of what to expect from the upcoming PSP-exclusive Killzone: Liberation. You can only carry one weapon at a time, meaning weapons selection is pretty crucial to the strategy of the game. Thankfully, there are crates that will supply you with the necessary tools you'll need (for example: a rocket launcher before a deadly battle against two tanks). GameTrailers.com has posted an excellent video feature, covering the various weapons in the game. Their favorite? A explosive crossbow, a la Darkwatch. They reveal details on how you can purchase new weapons, use C4, command your teammates to cover you with turret fire, ride a tank, and more. Chris found the game demo to be pretty damn good, and with all these gameplay features, it seems like the full game will not disappoint (hopefully). Killzone: Liberation hits stores on Halloween.

According to GameFront, it appears that the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories will be presented to members of the press in next week's Games Convention in Germany. Also on-hand at the show, according to GamesIndustry.biz is Sonic Rivals, the first ever original PSP platformer starring Sega's famous mascot. With the convention pending, it appears that new screens of both games are making their way around the internet. CVG has posted new screens of Sonic Rivals, featuring the aptly named Silver, who boasts psychic powers. GAME also has new direct-feed screenshots of Vice City Stories in action, showcasing the "new" rocket launcher.[Thanks, Adriaan!]

Halo fan FyreWulff has created a replica of the SPNKR rocket launcher to celebrate US independence this year. The launcher -- still a work in progress -- takes on the trademark Halo design, including the "HOLD LIKE THIS" image on the side. Describing his project, FyreWulff said: "...This is not meant to be a 1:1 remake of the Halo rocket launcher. I'm basically "skinning" another (fake!) rocket launcher to look like it, as best as possible." The launcher will be used to fire holiday shells and bottle rockets this 4th of July. Whether you're a Halo fan or not, surely there is no better way to celebrate our country than by blowing up a small part of it.
