A few years ago, Netflix and Chelsea Handler set out to "revolutionize the talk show." The plan was to run three 30-minute, near-live episodes each week. But the show, Chelsea, took nearly two years to launch, and after just two seasons, Netflix pulled the plug. It didn't stop there though. Netflix also removed 66 episodes. A company spokesperson told The New York Times that it's the only instance in which Netflix has pulled content it owned and created.

NBC shot an entire episode of the 'Tonight Show' with the Galaxy S10+

Samsung is no stranger to using TV events as sales pitches for its smartphones, but now it's taking over an entire TV show. Variety has learned that the March 25th episode of NBC's Tonight Show will replace the usual studio program with a tour of Jimmy Fallon's favorite New York City locales (complete with The Roots and guests) shot entirely with a Galaxy S10+ phone. In essence, it's one long ad for the smartphone's cameras. Samsung's Patricio Paucar isn't shy about the reasoning, either -- it's an attempt to "break through the noise" and get people to pay attention when they might tune out the usual commercials.

  • Notch eating chocolate and talking games on The Late Late Show

Markus "Notch" Persson, the creator of Minecraft and all-around high-profile indie game developer, guest starred on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson last night. The two gents talked about the games Notch plays – apparently he's into everything, but he really enjoys Grand Theft Auto – and the "games" Ferguson plays, such as Mario Kart. According to Notch, that one deserves the air quotes. Ferguson said he looked up Notch online and discovered one of the industry's darkest secrets – the gaming world is catty. "It seems like there's quite a lot of bitchiness in your world," he said. "Quite a lot of people are like, 'I hate him, he created Minecraft! How dare he not be me.'" Notch agreed, but said he too was irrationally protective of the games he plays. C'est la vie. If you missed Notch on The Late Late Show, don't worry – he was easy to miss because he pointedly wasn't wearing a fedora – there's a full clip of the interview here.

  • Minecraft's Notch to appear on The Late Late Show this Thursday

Hold on to your fedoras, everyone – Markus Persson, better known as "Notch" and even better known as "the creator of Minecraft," is making his talk show debut on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Thursday, November 7. This isn't only the first appearance for Notch on a mainstream talk show, but it's the first time an independent game developer has graced such a program in recent memory. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime doesn't capture quite the same vibe as Notch. Minecraft has sold more than 30 million copies across all current platforms, it's coming to next-gen consoles, it has its own convention and it's a Lego set, which is obviously the most relevant indicator of success. Speaking of hats (yes, we were), bets are now open: Will Notch wear a fedora during his appearance on The Late Late Show?

  • The Soapbox: Game developers are not rock stars

Disclaimer: The Soapbox column is entirely the opinion of this week's writer and does not necessarily reflect the views of Massively as a whole. If you're afraid of opinions other than your own, you might want to skip this column. Take a moment to think of your single favorite game developer. Is this person your favorite because of his talent? Maybe he made a game that influenced you growing up, or he has a charming personality for interviews. Whatever the reason, we probably all have our favorite game developers whom we hold on a pedestal of greatness. But did this one person make the game entirely by himself? Did Sid Meier write every line of code for the Civilization games? Did Richard Garriott draw every texture in Tabula Rasa? No, of course they didn't, but their names are right there on the box, showing ownership. Despite my own fanboy appreciation of certain devs, the title of this article says it all. With a few notable exceptions, those who make our favorite games make up a collective group of talented people who come together under proper leadership and design guidelines to create something that keeps us entertained for hours/weeks/months/years. So why do we pick out one or two and treat them like rock stars?

  • Vin Diesel plays WoW. Probably.

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/pc_games/Vin_Diesel_in_awe_about_Wrath_of_the_Lich_King'; Reader Nick tipped us to this one -- Fast and Furious actor Vin Diesel had a guest appearance on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, where he alludes to playing World of Warcraft. While he plays coy about any details about the character(s) he plays, an interesting part comes when popular British host Ross reveals that his wife plays a green, Spectral Tiger-riding Level 80 character. Diesel gets up to shake Ross' hand at the mention of this, and proceeds to some helium-induced hilarity. It shouldn't be a huge surprise that Diesel actually plays that game, considering that he's known to be a hardcore gamer and even wrote the foreword to the D&D 30th Anniversary retrospective coffee table book. In fact, he leads the discussion from D&D to World of Warcraft by saying that games nowadays are MMOs. This should corroborate what baseball player Curt Schilling has mentioned in a past interview about Diesel playing WoW. It would've been interesting to learn his class and faction (rumors say his character's name is Dish), but I guess players will just have to find that out another day. Maybe if he talks over vent, his Iron Giant voice should give him away...

Canoodle Strudel is a radio show about gaming, hosted on Indiana University's WIUX radio station (they're the ones who put together all of these custom Soul Caliber IV videogame characters), and the guys there have kindly invited WoW Insider on their show tonight. I'll be on the phone with them from Chicago to talk gaming, World of Warcraft, MMOs in general, and all the big news out of Wrath of the Lich King starting tonight at midnight Eastern. It should be a good time -- even if you're not in Bloomington, Indiana, there is a live stream on their website that plays really well in iTunes, so if you're awake around midnight this evening (finishing up those dailies or farming those last few motes), feel free to tune in and check it out. We're not sure if they can do call-ins, but even if not, you can always send us a tip with a suggestion of what you'd like to hear and I'll do my best to get it on the air.The show starts around midnight on the East Coast (and goes pretty late, I believe), but if you're up for some late night Sunday Warcraft discussion, definitely tune in.Update: Time zone fixed.

The mere mention of most businesses in Second Life can send residents into a fit of rage. However, at least one business has done something right. Cisco Systems has been in SL for over a year, and has no plans to go anywhere yet.On last week's episode of Real Biz in SL, Cybergrrl Oh got a tour of Cisco's four islands by Christian Renaud, who famously pledged that he would not travel by plane for the remainder of 2007 in order to help reduce airline-related emissions. After that, she asked him five questions. They even put the shortened Q & A up on the screen for you to read! If you haven't seen the show, you can check it out on the Second Life Cable Network. If you have machinima or movie suggestions from any MMO, please send them to machinima AT massively DOT com, along with any information you might have about them.

I've covered the Second Life Cable Network before, but there's so much programming that I wanted to highlight one specific segment. Every week, residents join Paisley Beebe to watch her talk show, Tonight Live. Her previous guests have included sean Voss, Celebrity Trollop, Cylindrian Rutabaga, Filthy Fluno, TheDiva Rockin, and Torley Linden!Last week, Paisley interviewed Beyers Sellers, otherwise known as Robert Bloomfield, who also has a weekly show on SLCN called Metanomics. They discuss why some have called his program "Pretend TV" and also why he started out in SL as a woman. For more information about Tonight Live or to attend in person, you can check out their blog.

It's been half of a year since Second Life Insider first covered the Second Life Cable Network. Since that time, they've expanded rapidly, growing into a full blown TV station. Their determination has set them apart from other video programs inside SL. I'll personally never forget them, because Starr Sonic poured glitter in my hair at the Second Life Community Convention. It took two people 20 minutes to pick it all out!SLCN offers a variety of programming for the audience. For the sports fanatics, they have sailing, hockey, SLASCAR racing, and snail racing. They also have weekly talk shows, streaming of live concerts, fashion shows, and on location reporting. In addition, they recently announced a shopping channel that will run 24 hours a day! These channels can be watched on their website or streamed into Second Life.Read on after the jump to find out more about SLCN ...
