  • Club Nintendo adds accessory box, pouches, eShop games to catalog

Club Nintendo is offering new rewards for loyal customers, namely the sort of rewards you put other items in. Those with 700 free coins can pick up a green Mario-themed accessory basket that measures just under a foot wide. Don't be fooled by the name, as Nintendo can't stop the rebels among us from putting anything other than accessories in the basket, like cats. Or other, smaller baskets. Club Nintendo's two other new physical rewards are Animal Crossing-themed pouches. Available in both pink and blue, the pouches store handheld systems as large as the 3DS XL for 500 coins. We're eyeing up one of the pouches to store candy instead, because Nintendon't tell us what to do. As for the loyalty program's featured eShop game downloads, players can pick between four games until April 6: Kid Icarus of Myths and Monsters on 3DS (150 coins), Number Battle on 3DS (200 coins), Yoshi on Wii U (200 coins) and Bonsai Barber on WiiWare (250 coins). Pilotwings, the game that taught us with huge, blocky pixels just what the SNES's scaling and rotation effects could do, touches down on the Japanese Wii Shop this week, along with the world's most beloved game about giving haircuts to personified plants. DSiWare is a bit less thrilling this week in Japan, with a kanji practice game, some kind of coloring app about color therapy and Gameloft's Legends of Exidia. The complete list of releases follows: Pilotwings (Super Famicom, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) Bonsai Barber (WiiWare, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) Renjuku Kanji Shougaku 6 Nensei (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points) DS Kokoro Nurie (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points) Legends of Exidia (DSiWare, 1 player, 800 DSi Points)

Today, we're jealous of European gamers, for one reason: The Revenge of Shinobi. The totally awesome Shinobi sequel isn't on the Virtual Console in North America, and it isn't on the Sega Genesis Collection or Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. presumably due to the appearance of copyrighted characters (some of which were included without permission the first time!). We could totally be playing it now if we were in Europe (or Australia). Hopefully this release means that Sega is clear to release it in North America as well. We'd be jealous of Bonsai Barber, which is surprisingly great, but we already have it! And we don't currently need maps of European cities, so the City Transport Map DSiWare games can wait as well. Bonsai Barber (WiiWare, 1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points) The Revenge of Shinobi (Mega Drive, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) City Transport Map Vol. 1 & 2 (DSiWare, 500 points each)

As mentioned in the announcement of Squibs Arcade, Nintendo of Europe is holding a WiiWare (and DSiWare) media summit this week. During the event, Nintendo released a list of WiiWare and DSiWare games planned for release between April and June. On WiiWare, the biggest news is Cave Story! Even though we knew it was scheduled for release in April or May, seeing more confirmation of that (for more regions) is great! Swords & Soldiers is also on the way. In addition, there are also a few games we haven't heard much (or anything) about. Each game has a brief description in Nintendo's announcement. Bonsai Barber Cave Story ColorZ Crystal Defenders R1 Icarian: Kindred Spirits LIT Overturn: Mecha Wars Robocalypse: Beaver Defense Spaceball: Revolution Squibs Arcade Swords & Soldiers Water Warfare In DSiWare, the most exciting title (to us) is Nintendo's Art Style: PiCOPiCT, a retro-Nintendo-themed puzzler with reinterpreted NES music by YMCK. A Little Bit of... Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training: Maths Edition Art Style: PICOPICT Mighty Flip Champs! Mixed Messages Pop Superstar: Road to Celebrity Real Football 2009 [Via NintendoLife]

  • Wiikly Wares: Super Punch-Out!!, Bonsai Barber

With the launch of the Nintendo DSi and its DSi Shop downloads coming next week, you might be seeing some changes to your usual Wiikly Wares posts. For now, let's just enjoy what little time we have left and think about the good times we've had. Virtual ConsoleSuper Punch-Out!! (SNES, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): Little Mac is back in this SNES sequel to one of the most beloved NES titles of all time. As Little Mac, you'll need to bob, weave, and pummel your way through old foes and new opponents alike. Just watch out for Hoy Quarlow. Apparently, he's allowed to box with a big wooden stick.WiiWareBonsai Barber (Nintendo, 1 -4 players, 1,000 Wii Points): Nintendo's WiiWare game combines the intensity of landscaping with the personal responsibility of barbering, as you tend to the 12 demanding customers of your local town. Each day, 5 of these customers will arrive looking for that perfect style. Good luck with satisfying a strawberry boffin, a daredevil carrot, a cactus cowboy, and a suave banana with top-secret clearance (we think he's an undercover plantain).
