You'll have the option of grabbing either the standard edition or a more elaborate and expensive collector's edition of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 when the game launches on February 11, 2014 for Xbox 360 and PS3. The collector's edition will be available exclusively through the Square Enix Store for $90. It includes special packaging, a hardcover art book, a silver embossed pocket watch, Aerith Gainsborough "Midgar's Flower Girl" DLC costume and a copy of the game. Pre-ordering the collector's edition will also guarantee a Cloud Strife outfit and his iconic Buster sword for use in-game. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 is the third and final game in the Final Fantasy 13 series. It takes place 500 years after the ending of Final Fantasy 13-2, with protagonist Lightning awakening from a self-imposed hibernation 13 days before the world is about to end.

  • Massively unboxes EVE Online's Collector's Edition

Sci-fi MMO EVE Online initially launched as a physical disc sold in stores back in 2003 and saw limited success in the fledgling MMO space. A decade of regular updates and digital distribution has seen EVE grow organically into the largest sci-fi sandbox on the planet with over half a million subscribers, but until now something has been missing: EVE has never had an actual collector's edition box. To celebrate 10 successful years of operation, last month CCP officially released the EVE Second Decade Collector's Edition box. I recently received a review copy of the Collector's Edition from CCP and have put together an unboxing video with my general impressions of the items within. The collection comes in a sturdy presentation box and contains a 192-page commemorative hardback book looking back on the first decade of EVE's history, along with an anniversary re-release edition of CCP's board game Danger Game and a physical Rifter model that doubles as a USB hub. The pack also comes with a new account key with 60 days of game time, a soundtrack CD of the EVE music played by the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, and keys to unlock billions of ISK worth of virtual collectables in-game. It's pretty expensive at around €150 or $150 US, but the virtual items can be sold in game to claw back some of the cost in the form of PLEX. Enjoy our look at the new CE!

  • The Titanfall Collector's Edition statue isn't 'something that you'd find in a kid's meal'

The Titanfall Collector's Edition statue is so big it needs its own trailer. In the above video, Respawn Entertainment Lead Artist Joel Emslie describes piece-by-piece the limited collectible, sharing behind-the-scenes info for fans. The titan, for example, is posed in mid-run to reflect the "dynamic" nature of the game, where "things are always in motion." Although the official press release and accompanying image from the Titanfall Collector's Edition announcement both mention a height of 18 inches for the statue, Emslie mentions in the video that's only where the production team started. "We kinda crept up a little higher," Emslie says. "He's almost pressing 20 inches with the pilot on the back." Well, you know what they say: "The bigger they are, the harder they Titanfall." We may have messed that one up.

The Batman Arkham Collection will arrive on November 22 in the UK, Warner Bros. announced today. The bundle packs the two Rocksteady-developed Arkham games, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City along with WB Games Montreal's Batman: Arkham Origins into one batsuit. Arkham Asylum and Arkham City will both be included as download codes for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the collection, with the PS3 bundle also receiving the Knightfall DLC pack for Arkham Origins. The PC version of the bundle will feature Game of the Year editions of either game, which grants players bonus DLC like Harley Quinn's Revenge for Arkham City and six additional maps for Arkham Asylum. Those two games are in a bundle of their own, which GameStop unveiled in September. We've contacted Warner Bros. to see if the Arkham Collection will arrive in North America as well.

Konami announced two collector's edition bundles for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 for European players today. The Premium Edition comes with a tomb-like case and includes four figurines, a hardcover art book, a steelbook case and a copy of the game, while the steelbook edition includes the metal case and either two alternate Dracula costumes or a "Relic Rune" pack, depending on where the collector's edition is pre-ordered from. Those looking to pre-order the Premium Edition need to act fast, as it is limited to 30,000 copies across GAME stores in the UK. Additionally, Konami unveiled a new trailer for Lords of Shadow 2 and new screens, which features Dracula, Carmilla and a whole bunch of shouting. Well, the trailer includes shouting, but not the screens. Though if screenshots could yell, the ones in this gallery would. The game will launch February 25 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Nintendo Europe's adorable Vine for the adorable Zelda treasure box was adorable, but it was a tad misleading: The musical treasure chest is part of the collector's edition of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds available exclusively at UK retailer Game, and it's not a pre-order bonus. The original Nintendo UK tweet identified the tiny chest as a pre-order perk, but Game's site includes it as part of the collector's edition. The Game collector's edition includes a boxed copy of A Link Between Worlds, a code to download Link's Awakening DX, a glossy poster and the musical chest. Link's Awakening DX is the original adventure redone for Game Boy Color, now on 3DS. Game will send eShop codes for Link's Awakening DX to pre-order customers, and once a purchase is confirmed and the code received, players will be unable to cancel their pre-orders.

Sony has revealed the pre-order bonuses for inFamous: Second Son, as well as the contents of an inFamous: Second Son Collector's Edition package. The Collector's Edition will cost $79.99 and come in a case with special artwork, and will add another vest to protagonist Delsin Rowe's already-impressive collection. Pre-ordering a regular version of the game will upgrade you to a Limited Edition copy with a unique foil cover. Pre-ordering either version gets you access to the Cole's Legacy DLC, which bridges the gap between inFamous 2 and Second Son. Completing the Cole's Legacy missions will unlock Cole's jacket for Delsin to wear, and according to the PlayStation Blog, will only be available to those who pre-order. "[Cole's Legacy] won't be available for purchase when inFamous: Second Son launches. It's only available through these offers here," the website states. The Collector's Edition of the game also comes with some physical goodies, including pins (that sounds familiar), a patch, vinyl decals and a replica of Delsin's beanie. Coupled with Aiden Pearce's vigilante mask from the Watch Dogs Limited Edition, you should be able to stay plenty warm next year.

Now that Amazon is taking pre-orders for Dark Souls 2: Collector Edition, you can offer your savings as a sacrifice before the game slaughters your patience anyway on March 11. The Collector Edition is priced at $119.99 and includes a cloth map of the game's world, an art book and a 12" Warrior Knight figurine. It also contains the Black Armor edition of Dark Souls 2, meaning you'll have a soundtrack and metal case to go with the steeled will any Dark Souls fan undoubtedly harbors.

Dark Souls 2 is scheduling your death for March 11, 2014 in North America, March 14 in Europe, and March 13 in Japan. Those dates apply to PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, while PC players must wait until "shortly thereafter," according to Namco Bandai. A spokesperson told us the extra time will allow the game to "fully capture all the necessary specs" for the PC audience. Namco also unveiled the sadistic sequel's Collector Edition (see below), should you choose to spend lavishly on your demise. Along with the game disc, the CE bundles in a 12 inch figurine, the soundtrack, an art book and a cloth map. If you'd just prefer to pre-order, you still get the bonus of a tin case housing the game along with the soundtrack. The news comes ahead of the Dark Souls 2 beta, launching on October 12. We took the beta for an early spin at Namco's Tokyo headquarters – more on that later this week – and we also chatted with director Yui Tanimura about all things Souls, including what developer From Software hopes to learn from the Dark Souls 2 beta, and how the franchise could benefit from next-gen tech.

The Mole has been quietly polishing his Freedom Spoon, waiting for the opportune moment to strike the walls of every German retailer – and it's almost time. Monaco is getting a PC retail collector's edition in Germany this year from publisher Headup Games, the same company behind German collector's editions of Super Meat Boy, QUBE, The Basement Collection, Terraria, Limbo, Frozen Synapse and SOL Exodus. We spotted a Monaco poster at Headup's Gamescom booth and the publisher said it was working on the German collector's edition, with another company figuring out a UK boxed version. Andy Schatz, Monaco mastermind, said he's excited about launching in the UK and Germany and he hopes to enter more markets later on. Keep your eyes and Freedom Spoons sharp, everyone.

  • The Mog Log Extra: Unboxing the Final Fantasy XIV collector's editions

I barely ever buy the collector's edition of any game. That's not to say I don't like the idea, but it's hard to justify the increased cost for the same game, especially when the included bonuses aren't all that good in the first place (I don't know who decided that collector boxes should come with statues that add $100 onto the box price, but I don't like that person). The original Final Fantasy XIV collector's edition, however, was one of the games on which I spent the extra money. Not just for the heck of it, but because of early access, which was tied to the special edition back in the day. So when Square-Enix sent us a review copy of the new collector's edition, I knew that there was only one thing to be done: I needed to offer an unboxing review of this new edition.

A BMO-themed Collector's Edition of Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know! will be released for the 3DS version of the game, alongside its standard edition counterparts on the 3DS, Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC when the game arrives this fall. The Collector's Edition, which will run for $39.99, comes in a limited edition BMO SteelBook case and includes a DVD that features voice actor interviews, show creator Pendleton Ward's storyboard artwork "and more," in addition to "Finn and Jake's Dungeon Guide," a full-color manual with bonus artwork. The standard editions of the Wii U and 3DS versions also have a bit more in-game BMO than the other ports. In the Wii U version, BMO's adorable little computer face will chill on the GamePad's screen, dispensing commentary via 300-plus voice clips, in addition to contextual clues and hints about boss weaknesses. The 3DS version features similar functionality on the touch screen, sans voice clips.

The Batman: Arkham Origins collector's edition for North America, Australia and New Zealand runs $120 and includes a terrifying, yet oddly alluring, statue of The Joker surrounded by LED-lit TVs. The statue is 9 inches tall, 13 inches wide, 11.5 inches in depth and probably a 7 on a "this will scare young children" scale. More physical goodies included in the collector's edition are two pieces of evidence from the Gotham crime lab, an 80-page art book, a Batman "wanted" poster, blueprints of the batwing, an Anarky logo stencil, a glow-in-the-dark map of Gotham City, the Wayne family photo and dossiers on all eight assassins out to get Batman, including Black Mask's contract. Digital items include the First Appearance Batman Skin and the Deathstroke Challenge Pack. North American customers get Necessary Evil, a documentary of DC Comics' most famous villains, and PS3 owners in all regions get the Knightfall pack. The European collector's edition appeared earlier in August, running £80 and including, overall, less stuff, and certainly a less creepy Joker statue. Examine the North American statue in greater detail here.

  • Elder Scrolls Anthology rolls up (nearly) everything from Arena to Skyrim

    08.01.2013

Bethesda will launch a special Elder Scrolls Anthology collection for PC on September 10 for $79.99. The compilation will span the five-game series (Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim) and will include official add-ons, such as Skyrim's Hearthfire, Dragonborn and Dawnguard DLC packs. Not every game in the series is included in the collection, as the four The Elder Scrolls Travels cell phone games and An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire are missing from the package. Bethesda says this is the first time it's put together a PC collection of The Elder Scrolls games, which began with Arena's launch in 1994. The Elder Scrolls Anthology will also feature five physical maps depicting the lands of Tamriel, Iliac Bay, Morrowind, Cyrodiil and Skyrim.

EVE Online's 10th anniversary is a big deal to CCP, which is why the studio is coming out with a special collector's edition of the game. In a new video the team reminisces about the origins and growth of EVE Online (spoiler: beer has something to do with it), after which the devs reveal the contents of the new edition. The CE is full of physical items, including a model of one of EVE's ships, a copy of the board game that helped to fund EVE, a book of the history of EVE, and a music recording of a symphony orchestra playing EVE's score. There are also plenty of digital items packed in for both EVE Online and DUST 514, which you can see in the picture above. Check out the anniversary video after the jump!

  • The Perfect Ten: Why I love collector's editions

If you've ever wondered what kind of naive sucker would plunk down a semi-thick wad of perfectly good cash on an overstuffed MMO collector's edition, hi, I'm Justin. I do just that. I don't buy collector's editions for every MMO I pick up, but I do have a strong habit of purchasing them that dates back to the original World of Warcraft CE. I can't help it; I love collector's editions so much. In fact, my interest in them is so keen that the number one and two questions I have for any anticipated MMO in beta are: (1) When can I pre-order the CE and (2) what's included in it? I'm like a junkie, except that instead of burned spoons and constant trips to White Castle to stave off the munchies, my shame is marked by mountain-sized boxes that litter my closet. It's confession time for this collector's edition addict. What are my reasons for this undying love, this unbridled passion, this all-consuming need to own the best edition possible? You're about to find out.
