Earlier this year Local Motors set forth a challenge for the 3D printing community to design a road-ready vehicle, and now there's a winner. What you're looking at above is the Reload Redacted - Swim and Sport from Kevin Lo. It beat out over 60 other designs and Local Motors says that the Swim and Sport was chosen in part because it reflects the benefits of the company's Direct Digital Manufacturing, like the chance at a totally customizable vehicle with removable body panels. The outfit says a Low Speed Electric Vehicle (LSEV) version should ship to consumers early next year, and a prototype is on deck for a September release.

Digital Development Management is like Gus from Breaking Bad. DDM works behind the scenes, making connections and taking advantage of opportunities while the patsies -- video game developers and publishers -- make the money. DDM represents some major studios, and it revealed some interesting information about their future projects in a recent corporate slideshow. Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind Fallout: New Vegas and Dungeon Siege 3, is developing an "unannounced project for [a] leading animation franchise," according to DDM's presentation. It also says Need for Speed: Shift developer Slightly Mad Studios is working on an unannounced project, which could be its crowd-sourced venture, C.A.R.S. Triumph Studios, creator of the Overlord and Age of Wonders franchises, is also working on an unannounced title, DDM's presentation says. It's not too surprising that game-development studios are creating games, but details such as Obsidian's "leading animation franchise" get us curious. So far, we're hoping for Fallout: Seth MacFarlane Armageddon.

  • Conan game being conceived by Paradox and DDM

A new Conan el bárbaro video game is being developed in a collaboration between Paradox, which holds the rights to the Hyborian adventurer, and Digital Development Management (DDM). Basically, it'll be the job of DDM's "game industry services division" to seek out a developer and publisher to get the game on store shelves. A DDM representative wanted to be clear that the game will not necessarily be based on next year's Conan The Barbarian film. At best, Conan's recent game career has been shaky from both a fan and fiscal standpoint. The Age of Conan MMO is still around, unlike fond recollection for THQ's action game from 2007. And yes, a Conan parody actually made a great cameo in Comic Jumper, but that wasn't exactly "official."
