EX Troopers isn't bringing its anime stylings to our shores anytime soon. The Lost Planet spin-off comes out in Japan later this year, but Capcom's senior vice-president Christian Svensson posted on the company's forums to say a Western release isn't currently planned. These things do change, of course, especially when Capcom has already filed a US trademark for the game. In any case, it's too early to write off a North American release for the PS3 and 3DS game just yet.

EX Troopers, Capcom's colorful Lost Planet spin-off, will feature a team-based multiplayer 'survival' mode. Capcom Japan published the details today along with a few screens, The mode will feature online multiplayer on PS3, and local multiplayer on 3DS. Both the 3DS and PS3 versions will support up to six players split into two teams. In principle it looks like a fairly standard attack/defend mode, with one team trying to obliterate the other before the timer runs out. But this is EX Troopers and everything we've seen so far of the game has been anything but ordinary.Meanwhile, Capcom also announced that Japanese health drink Oronamin C will feature in the game, along with a theme song performed by J-pop idol May'n. That's all for Japanese players to look forward to when EX Troopers hits their stores on November 22, but there remains no word yet on a Western release.

EX Troopers, a stylized spin-off of Lost Planet for 3DS and PS3 (hey, it is lost, after all), is in development from Capcom, produced by Monster Hunter's Shintaro Kojima and directed by Resident Evil 5's Yasuhiro Anpo, Siliconera reports. Anpo contributed to Lost Planet itself as a "library programmer" as well. EX Troopers will feature co-op multiplayer, a cel-shaded anime art style and is set to launch later this year. Unlike the version we asked you to stare at last month that has since been banned, Capcom's official trailer above shows off the revamped art style in, well, style.

Just a reminder, because there's no way you'll get this from the trailer: This cel-shaded, unmistakably anime game about a plucky teen and his robot ... is a Lost Planet spinoff. The PS3/3DS action game E.X. Troopers is even more implausible in motion than when all we had was a text description.

We certainly didn't expect a 3DS spinoff of Lost Planet ... and we definitely didn't expect a 3DS-slash-PS3 spinoff. EX Troopers, revealed in this week's Famitsu magazine, is also unexpectedly anime styled, featuring manga panel cutscenes and a theme by Jpop star May'n.EX Troopers takes place on EDN-3rd, in some kind of academy. Bren Turner is new in school, and seems to jump right into the Akrid fighting in what producer Shintaro Kojima describes as a beginners' action shooter. No official images have been released yet (above is Lost Planet 3), but expect to see a lot of this, as Capcom indicated plans to use this IP outside of games, like its other "Single Content Multiple Usage" initiatives.

Capcom has filed a trademark for something called "E.X. Troopers." Your initial reaction might be one of excitement, but that's because you're confusing the title with Exosquad. It's okay, we did it too. So what exactly is E.X. Troopers? We can safely assume it's a game of some sort but, beyond that, it's a mystery. We're going to guess these are the kind of troopers that shoot aliens (or monsters, etc), not the kind that pull you over on the highway.
