  • Fable II conjures up 1.5 million in sales

Our advice to Peter Molyneux and the team over at Lionhead Studios is to take the day off and pop open some champagne corks, because Fable II's first two weeks of sales are something to celebrate. Microsoft just revealed that 1.5 million copies of Fable II were sold worldwide during its first two weeks at retailers, with nearly 800,000 copies being sold in the U.S. Quite impressive sales figures that we're sure both Lionhead and Microsoft Game Studios are proud of. Now, all we have to wait for is the December release of the Knothole Island DLC to see how well Fable II's DLC sells.

  • Fable 2 DLC takes heroes to 'Knothole Island'

Free-floating news, everybody! Lionhead Studios has revealed the first downloadable content pack for its dichotomous role-playing adventure, Fable 2. The "Knothole Island" pack introduces an island encased in snow, it's only hope for warm resolution resting on the shoulders of your swashbuckling hero. Or obese, mace-wielding woman. The whole Knothole pack (detailed after the break) promises new quests, "wondrous" items and "bizarre" characters for a fee of 800 -- that's ten America bucks. If you don't have any of those to spare, you might want to look into the additional (and free!) DLC pack that promises "a show of gifts, including Knight's Boots, Assassins Gloves, a special Weight Loss Potion, collectible silver book and more." You'll also need it to play co-op with anybody who downloaded the Knothole pack (though you won't be able to partake in the new quests without downloading it yourself).Expect the content to hit Xbox Live Marketplace in "mid-December."

After a week long delay, Lionhead Studios and Microsoft just pulled the curtain back on their BIG Fable 2 announcement and, as we expected, it's new downloadable content! Releasing mid-December, the 800 Microsoft point Fable 2 "Knothole Island" DLC will be a new island to explore, where it's your hero's goal to bring sunshine back to an island that has suddenly been blanketed in snow. Snow that has left everyone either dead or really chilly. The DLC will also come with new items including Knight's Boots, Assassins Gloves, Weight Loss Potion and a collectible silver book. In total, there will three new quests, six new weapons, dozens of potions, and 50+ new leaderboards. Finally, for those who aren't interested in the Knothole Island DLC yet want to play co-op with those who have made the purchase, Lionhead will be releasing free DLC that'll allow access to the island through co-op.%Gallery-37841%

Last week, Lionhead revealed that a BIG Fable II announcement would be coming this week. Well, their plans didn't work out as expected and the BIG announcement has been delayed until next Monday, November 24th. Reason being that Microsoft decided this week wouldn't be the best time to announce BIG Fable II news, probably due to the whole New Xbox Experience release n' such. There you have it, kids, a BIG Fable II announcement will be headed our way next Monday. We plomise!

  • Check your inbox, Fable 2 CE DLC codes have been emailed

If you haven't recently checked your inbox and registered for the Fable 2 Collector's Edition DLC offer, then we advise doing an inbox check this very moment. Reason being, Microsoft just emailed the DLC redemption codes to those who already registered. If you recall, Microsoft forgot to place the CE exclusive DLC redemption code cards in some copies of the Fable 2 CE, which caused lots of commotion and angry customers. So, team Microsoft setup a website to allow those CE purchasers who didn't get their redemption code a chance to receive the content via registration on the website. And to those who gamed the system, registered for the DLC and never owned the CE, we think the email's opening sentence says it all. "Accept the consequences of your actions" ... mmkay?[Thanks, to the hundreds of fanboys who sent this in]

  • October NPD: Wii up, Sony down, Fable 2 raking in the gold

October hardware sales in North America were not good for Sony, with all three of its consoles seeing at least an 18% drop, according to this month's NPD report. The Nintendo Wii maintained its top spot with a 17% increase in sales, likely due to an increase in supply, while Xbox 360's price drop acted as the likely catalyst for its 6.85% increase.Overall, total sales reached $1.31 billion, an increase of 18%. While accessories dropped 8% to 120.19 million, hardware increased 5% to $494.74m and software sales increased 35% to $696.79m. Fable 2 took the top spot, selling an impressive 790K copies after only ten days of release. Speaking of software, Fallout 3, which we know has moved 4.7 million units worldwide, placed third for the Xbox 360 with 375K. Not making it into the top ten? Wii Music, which sold a disappointing 81K in its first 11 days of launch. That wouldn't have made the top ten for any NPD report this year. - Wii: 803K 116K (16.89%)- DS: 491K 45.8K (-8.53%)- Xbox 360: 371K 23.8K (6.85%)- PSP: 193K 45.1K (-18.94%)- PS3: 190K 42.4K (-18.24%)- PS2: 136K 37.5K (-21.61%)Full software sales after the break.

In an effort to steal our gaming attention, Lionhead just posted a new blog teasing that next week will bring a BIG Fable 2 announcement. "I dare say it's a big announcement regarding Fable II, next week!" says the teasing blog, which can only logically be referring to one thing ... Fable 2 DLC. That's if logic holds true. It's either DLC or some sort of big announcement telling us that they'll be releasing a game patch that'll make those Pub Games cheaters' copies of Fable 2 start on fire the next time the game is loaded. Wouldn't that be fun?[Via Eurogamer]

  • Lionhead working on Fable II 'Abbot' glitch fix

Lionhead has gone and fessed up to a particularly irritating glitch many Fable II players have unfortunately stumbled upon. Specifically, when speaking to an abbot at the outset of the "Monk's Quest," the game will simply not let you progress any further if you choose to brush the guy off and walk away while he's talking. The developer said in a post on its official forums that, "Some things slip through the net during development, especially when a game is the size and scope of Fable II," and went on to offer its apologies to those affected. It doesn't have any advice, though, for what to do if you're already stuck. It is planning a title update to patch the bug – so that this doesn't happen to anyone else – but hasn't provided an ETA.

We've been receiving reports from several gamers -- and the Lionhead forums are positively buzzing -- about a game breaking glitch in Fable II. The glitch occurs during the quest called "Monk's Quest," in which players are tasked with speaking to the Abbot of the Temple of Light in Oakfield. Apparently, if players run into the temple, begin the conversation with the Abbot, and then leave the region before the conversation is finished, they are be unable to resume the quest, thus preventing them from completing the main story. Lionhead is currently working on the issue and advises all players to make sure to finish the conversation and cut scene before leaving the area. At the moment there is no fix for those who have already encountered the glitch.Another glitch discovered in the game causes those who take one of their heroes into co-op with another player starting a new game. Apparently, when leaving childhood, all experience and gold will be wiped from the co-op character. Lionhead hopes to address this glitch in a title update, but advises players to only play co-op after the childhood stage has been completed.[Thanks to everyone that sent this in]

Hot on the heels of the live action destiny trailer, Lionhead has released the official Fable 2 launch trailer. The trailer focuses on the same central theme as the destiny trailer, only this one is composed entirely of gameplay footage. With central question being "Who will you become?" we're treated to a very wide variety of different characters from burly pirates to lithe assassins. We also get a peak at some impressive landscapes. Since the trailer puts for it's question so bluntly, we might as well ask: what do you plan to do when you pick up Fable 2 (assuming you plan to). Oh, and those of you wanting to see the trailer in HD, it's currently available on Xbox Live Marketplace.

In the wake of Fable 2's impending release, Microsoft and Lionhead Studios just launched a new Fable 2 Destiny advertisement which is, well ... good. The new ad doesn't push Fable 2's visuals, gameplay or even the friendly little pooch that's always by your side. Instead, their latest ad centers in on the hero you become and the choices you makes that determine what you'll become. Evil, good, clean, dirty, tattooed or on fire, it's your choice. It's a great ad and we're totally loving the flickering candle effect.[Via Game Stooge]

  • First screens of Fable II's Master Chief outfit

Way back in August, we reported that a Master Chief outfit -- a Spartan outfit, if you want to get technical -- would be making an appearance in Fable II. Now, thanks to DailyGame, we have the first screenshots of the outfit, which is known as Hal's Outfit in the game.. It looks slightly different from the original images. Overall we'd say it's closer to the actual look of the Chief's iconic suit. Also pictured in the new screenshots is the energy sword -- Hal's Sword. It looks nice and all, but it only deals a paltry 22 damage, so let's hope it has some amazing bonus properties. Head over to DailyGame for more images.

It looks like Fable II will be receiving its much publicized online co-op enabling patch on day one after all. In the wake of Lionhead's Peter Molyneux saying he hoped for a day one solution, community guru Sam has announced that the co-op patch is complete, saying, "It looks like we've done it...for all of you who are connected to Xbox Live, when starting up your copy of Fable II (on 21st October in USA, 24th October in Europe and 18th December in Japan)." Definitely good news for those looking to team up and fight the good fight for the fate of Albion. Even better news for those planning to do more important things, like buy up the Cow and Corset with their gambling winnings and share a free pint with a friend.[Thanks, BA]

After the break, you can view Lionhead Studios' latest Fable 2 developer diary that, coincidentally enough, was just released earlier today. This video diary (number seven to be exact) doesn't address any of the game's co-op changes or CE alterations, instead it's all about Fable 2's music, sound effects, voice over work and their implementation. Fun fact: Fable 2 is comprised of 9,000 unique sound effects that are compressed into just under 90MBs. Those Lionhead devs must practice dark magic.

Lionhead has released a new batch of screenshots from the upcoming Fable II. The six screenshots serve to highlight the variety of possible heroes available to gamers in Peter Molyneux's latest opus. All told we have an evil Slash wannabe, a pirate, a gun-toting gentleman wearing a Mardi Gras mask, a pale, white-haired vixen, a sideburns-sporting, purple-coated hero and ... a man in a dress. Yes, there's quite a bit of variety possible thanks to the many clothing and style options, not to mention the many moral and social choices that alter a characters appearance. And now, thanks to Fable II's Live co-op, you can actually show off your unique hero to your friends.Check out a hi-res versions of these images in the gallery below.%Gallery-31559%

A while ago we tipped our readers (that's you!) about GameDaily looking for questions to ask Fable II maestro Peter Molyneux. Well kids, the time has come. The 10 Questions feature with Peter Molyneux is now online and ready to read. Molyneux fields questions about the size of the game world (about 12 times bigger), whether or not players can choose their breed of dog (nope) and whether or not he dreams about Fable II (yup). We should probably warn big Fable II fans that the piece contains no major revelations about the game, but then there really isn't much left to reveal. For example, Molyneux does not confirm any player-vs-player support in Fable II, though he does admit "It would be cool to fight against other heroes, as everyone's hero will be unique."Yes, it would be cool, wouldn't it? Head over to GameDaily for the full feature.[Thanks to Stuart Harper for the image]

It looks like Amazon is looking to grab the attention of 360 RPG gamers, because the company is currently listing the Fable II Limited Collector's Edition for $66.99, a full $13.00 off the retail price. Our instinct is to believe it must be an incorrect listing, but the page makes it quite clear that the listed price is 16% off retail and it includes the correct October 21 release date. So, if you're looking for some Fable goodness on the cheap (don't forget that pre-ordering at Amazon also nabs you the Fable II Pub Games for free), head over to Amazon and snatch one of these babies up. If you do so successfully, be sure to mention it in the comments![Thanks, Saeth]
