A few days ago, we got our first tease of the new Fallout game, and at today's Xbox E3 press conference, we're getting the full reveal of Fallout 76. Bethesda's Todd Howard said that the latest entry in the series will be a prequel to 2015's Fallout 4 and is four times larger than that game.

Bethesda teases 'Fallout 76' ahead of E3 premiere

After a not-so-subtle hint in a Twitch stream, it's official: there's a new Fallout game on the way. Bethesda has posted a teaser trailer for Fallout 76 ahead of its premiere at E3. You won't find many details about the gameplay itself, but there are hints that this might be a slightly different take on the post-apocalyptic world. For one, the game's namesake Vault 76 is important to Fallout lore -- it's one of the few "control" (baseline) vaults. The choice of music might also be a clue, as Bethesda ditched the usual '30s and '40s music for a cover of John Denver's "Country Roads." Is it set in West Virginia, then?

Much like the sun rises in the East, Bethesda has trotted out another game of the year edition for one of its open-world role-playing games. This time it's Fallout 4. As you might expect, it includes everything that's been released for the game since 2015 including its six add-on mission packs. This latest version will be released on September 26th for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Official pricing isn't available, but based on history, this probably won't cost more than $60.

'Fallout' is bringing the wasteland to tabletop gaming

Multiplayer in Fallout on PC and consoles probably isn't going to happen. So, if you want friends to join you in the wasteland you're going to have to go old school. The folks from Fantasy Flight Games have devised a tabletop board game that's suitable for up to four players. You can apparently play solo too, according to Game Informer. There's a heavy emphasis on decision making (a callback to the older Fallout games on PC), and newer elements like the VATS system for combat are on offer as well.

Singer sues 'Fallout 4' publisher over use of a classic song

The Fallout game series is legendary for its use of music to set the post-apocalyptic mood, but it might have been a little too eager when creating the tone for Fallout 4. Singer Dion DiMucci has sued Fallout's publisher, ZeniMax, for allegedly using his 1961 hit "The Wanderer" for ads without verifying that he approved of the content. The artist contends that ZeniMax didn't bother honoring contract terms that let him refuse the use of his song in the promos, which he finds "morally indefensible." He's not objecting to the game itself -- rather, it's that the ads glorify the protagonist's violence "as sport" instead of focusing on the "struggle for survival." Clearly, he's not a fan of seeing his cherished, upbeat pop song playing as someone guns down mutants.

VR is all the rage these days and Bethesda is offering more immersive views of two of its popular games in 2017. One of those is Fallout 4, and the title is making the leap to HTC Vive this fall. At E3 last year, Bethesda revealed that both Fallout and Doom would soon be available in virtual reality and now we know when to expect at least one of them. Details are still scarce for now, but what we do know is Fallout 4 VR is set to hit that virtual reality headset in October. We'll add more details here as they're announced, so stay tuned. Who knows, maybe we'll get a chance to play the new version at E3 2017 later this week. For now, watch the Fallout 4 VR trailer embedded below.

When it comes to E3 press conferences, Bethesda is kind of a wild card. The company is the steward of iconic franchises like The Elder Scrolls, Dishonored and Doom, but its press conference is often something of a surprise. The company has a habit of reviving old franchises unexpectedly, or releasing games just months after their public announcement. It's almost best to avoid predicting what the company is going to announce and just sit back and enjoy the show. And that's where we are -- welcome to the Bethesda E3 press conference! You'll find the company's livestream embedded right here on this post, as well as on YouTube and Twitch.

Mobile games have been making their way to consoles at a semi-regular clip lately. Most recently it was Square Enix Montreal's series of Go titles moving to PlayStation 4, and now Fallout Shelter is making its way to Xbox One and Windows 10. Now, it was already available on Steam, but this version offers Play Anywhere features like cloud-sync and shared achievements between the platforms. So, it's a little different.

Available today as DLC for the free game Pinball FX 2, Microsoft gamers can trial these new tables for a limited time at no extra cost. If, however, you find yourself wanting to return to Bethesda's machines, the pack of three will set you back $11 (£8).

  • Bethesda paves the way for 'Fallout 4' mods on PlayStation 4

Almost a year after Fallout 4 hit store shelves (and following some consternation from Sony), mod support is finally available for the game's PlayStation 4 version -- thanks to an update to the game's Creation Kit mod toolset*. Now remember, this doesn't mean you replace the towering Deathclaw enemies with "Macho Man" Randy Savage, as unlike the Xbox One version, the one on PS4 only plays nicely with mods created from pre-existing game assets. A post on Bethesda.net reminds as much, saying that these mods are plugins only, and that no archives are permitted. Is that going to limit your creativity? Pop down in the comments and let us know. * A previous version of this post wrongly stated that mods were already available. It has been updated to reflect that correction.

Bethesda and Sony have kissed and made up. Who benefits from that corporate make-out session? You, because mod support is en route for Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition, according to a post on Bethesda.net. Skyrim mods will show up first, but there isn't a timetable for when that will actually happen.

Games have paid tribute to late celebrities and fans in the past, but rarely like this. When Reddit user NoohjXLVII (aka Andy) posted about the tragic losses of his father and his brother, as well as using Fallout 4 as a coping mechanism, Bethesda responded by including his brother as a character in Fallout's Nuka World add-on. Run into Evan at the southernmost part of Nuka World's map and you'll meet the recreation of a man who Andy says was just as generous in real-life as he is in-game -- the virtual Evan will gladly give you whatever he can. He's not a perfect physical match, but he captures the "essence" of the person.

Whereas Fallout Shelter has become more like Fallout 4 in recent months, come July 26th those actions will swap. The "Vault-Tec Workshop" expansion hits PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One that day according to a post on Bethesda.net. What's this add-on bring to the table? Creating a vault of your very own (like you did in Fallout Shelter on mobile) where you can attract folks to your custom-built domain, play dress-up with them and then put 'em to work. The company is sending out early beta access to folks on PC this week.

If you were looking to further explore Fallout 4's modding community as a PlayStation 4 owner, unfortunately you're going to have to wait a little longer. Bethesda has announced a delay to the PS4 Mods Beta, and hasn't yet given an ETA on when we can expect to see them become available.

Bethesda is building a version of Fallout 4 for the HTC Vive headset, and it'll be ready next year. "If you thought that survival mode was an intense way to experience Fallout", Bethesda marketing chief Pete Hines said at the company's E3 press conference, "you ain't seen nothing yet." The company is showing off a small section of gameplay at E3. It's also got Doom in VR, which offers "a virtual tour of hell." It sounds a lot like an environmental demo, rather than an actual game. We'll bring you impressions of both once we've had a chance to check them out.

Fallout Shelter has evolved past its mobile confines and it's set to hit PC in July, Bethesda announced today at E3. Plus, Fallout Shelter will get an update in July that introduces quests and adds a new combat system, characters, foes and locations. Hey, we told you Fallout Shelter was getting more like Fallout 4. Fallout 4 is also getting bigger and badder with three new pieces of DLC: the Contraptions Workshop, Vault-Tec Workshop and a Nuka-World theme park experience. The game has already received three bits of downloadable content with the Automatron, Wasteland Workshop and Far Harbor expansions, all of which were included in the game's $30 Season Pass. The add-ons announced at E3 are included in the original Season Pass.

Jerks are plagiarizing 'Fallout 4' PC mods on Xbox One

Maybe the team at Bethesda should've seen this coming: Now that mods are available for Fallout 4 on Xbox One, the more unscrupulous among us are apparently stealing creations that originated on the game's PC version and uploading them for Microsoft's latest console. Some flagrant examples noticed by Reddit users include in-game mods there were hosted exclusively on modding emporium Nexus Mods being added to Bethesda.net as original creations, with uploaders even copying and pasting the PC-centric installation instructions into the mod description.

If you have a soft spot for Choose Your Own Adventure stories but wish they were set in your favorite video game universes... well, you'd better clear your schedule. Many A True Nerd has turned Bethesda's Fallout: New Vegas into an interactive video (a Choose Your Own Apocalypse, as it's called) that you play solely through YouTube. As you might imagine, it boils down the action role-playing game's experience into simple this-or-that choices -- the route you take and the people you befriend determine whether or not you'll make it to New Vegas in one piece.

'Fallout Shelter' is becoming a bit more like 'Fallout 4'

We still don't have exact timing for the upcoming Fallout 4 add-on packs and survival mode, but perhaps a pretty sizable update to Fallout Shelter is an olive branch of sorts. For the most part, the patch brings a level of parity between the console and mobile game with the addition of armor and weapons crafting, a day-and-night cycle and Vault Dweller customization by way of a new room type (a barbershop). Oh, and because Bethesda doesn't discriminate against non-four-legged creatures in terms of pet ownership, parrots are joining a few new cats and dogs in your underground utopia.
