It might seem strange to pair Silent Hill and Dragon Age fan film trailers in one post, but they just happen to share the same director, Leo Kei Angelos. Both projects are planned for release as complete short films later this year, and they already look impressive. In fact, if the super, super creepy trailer is any indication, the Silent Hill inspired film, The Confined, just might turn out better than its full-length cinematic counterpart. Check out both trailers after the break.

Here's your opportunity, as a fanmade animation treats us to a first-person view of the intrepid Italian's adventures through the familiar World 1-1. There are kill streaks, achievements like "headbanger" and "pole dancer," and some extremely realistic sound effects to set the mood. The priceless video follows after the break.

  • FindMakarov.com is an unofficial Call of Duty film project

The countdown on FindMakarov.com has ended to reveal ... a fan film? Self-funded "for fun," according to creative director Jeff Chan, of Toronto-based viral marketing company We Can Pretend, this live-action trailer is meant as an example of how Activision's Call of Duty game franchise could be expanded to film. "We definitely wouldn't wanna just call ourselves fans," said Chan, who would not say whether the filmmakers had talked to Activision about their project yet. "We gave a statement on Friday," an Activision representative said in response to the trailer going live. "No further comment." The "Find Makarov" trailer, which Chan compared to the live-action ODST short in spirit, was scripted by We Can Pretend design director Patrick Lo, who also created the website. David Fradkin produced the film, and Nir Zahavi directed the extensive viral marketing campaign. Visual effects were handled by Junction VFX, also based out of Toronto. Chan declined to elaborate on the company's long-term intention. Watch the so-called "Live Action Modern Warfare" trailer after the break.

We assumed the team at Wayside Creations was onto something special when we saw a trailer for its game-inspired short film, Fallout: Nuka Break, last month. Today, we found out just how right we were: The full movie is out, posted right here, and one of the best darn fan flicks we've ever seen.

It's finally here! After over two years of work, a small group of indie filmmakers have released Beyond Black Mesa, a twelve-minute short film set in the Half-Life universe. If you're a fan of the series, you've got to tune in after the jump. (If you're not a fan, what's wrong with you?)

Half-Life has proven itself to be a pretty popular universe for fans to set their fan films within -- but that doesn't mean we're not hungry for more. We recently got our fix from the trailer for Beyond Black Mesa, a short film chronicling the adventures of a small band of anti-Combine rebels.

If you can set aside 90-some-odd-minutes during your oh-so-busy Saturday, we suggest you check out the entirety of Eddie Lebron's recently released, massive fan project: Mega Man: The Movie. Its got a level of polish we're not accustomed to seeing from most fan films -- by which we mean we can watch the entire thing without involuntarily cringing our faces off. The full movie is hosted for free over at ScrewAttack. All kidding aside, it's totally worth watching. You can really tell that a lot of hard work and love for the franchise went into the making of the film. Also, a lot of mustache pomade.

  • Street Fighter Legacy is the best three minutes of Street Fighter film ever

As promised, the full version of the Street Fighter Legacy short film has been released. You can watch it after the break or click here to see it in resolutions up to 1080p. We're happy to report that Joey Ansah, Owen Trevor and Streetlight Films have figured out the secret formula for making a good Street Fighter movie: make it really short. There's no time for terrible dialogue, shoehorned character cameos or questionable characterization in this three-minute film. There's just time for one beautifully shot fight sequence between Ryu and Ken ... which makes sense for a movie based on a fighting game.

  • Duke Nukem fan film trailer to satisfy fans starved for Duke content

Okay, what are the odds this Duke Nukem fan film, by Finnish studio HMC, is actually going to be released? Sure, this movie may not actually be developed by 3D Realms -- but neither are those DS and PSP games, and those aren't out yet either. It seems that Duke Nukem may just be cursed. Which is a shame, because this trailer (after the break) is entertaining in the same way a real Duke game is. It's got a girl and a monster and a cigar-chomping jerk who shoots the monster whilst spouting one-liners. We hope this thing continues production -- and we hope the producers find a voice actor for the title character. [Thanks, Topi]

  • Nintendo shuts down Zelda fan film, four years in the making

A few weeks ago, the fruits of four years of labor finally paid off for independent film studio BMB Finishes when its Zelda-based movie, The Hero of Time, was released for public consumption over the internets. Reaction to the film was mixed, but it seemed like everyone appreciated the 1,460 days of hard work that went into the feature-length film's creation. Apparently, that's not the case -- the movie's official site was updated on New Years Day, explaining that the studio had come to an agreement with Nintendo to stop distributing the film online. The update sounds less miffed than you might imagine, stating, "we understand Nintendo's right to protect its characters and trademarks and understand how in order to keep their property unspoiled by fan's interpretation of the franchise, Nintendo needs to protect itself - even from fan-works with good intentions." The missive jokingly ends by saying, "I'm sure our next project will be right around the corner! No, it's not Majora's Mask." Yeah, that would be ridiculous. Twilight Princess, on the other hand, seems like a logical choice.

  • Assassin's Creed fan-made film 'Initiation' available today [update]

Update: We've added the full video after the break. Enjoy! When the folks at The Duo Group aren't busy making short films, animations, or advertisements for various entertainment companies, they make ... short films and animations just for the fun of it. Case in point, the recent Assassin's Creed fan film "Initiation," which provides a prologue piece on Altair joining the assassin's guild. Though the whole 10-minute shebang is set to be released sometime today, we can only provide the teaser still above and a preview after the break for the time being. We did, however, watch the entirety of "Initiation" this morning, and can assure you it'll be worth your time when it does finally arrive later today. [Thanks, Graham C.]

  • Your custom-made Warthog isn't this good

Well, unless you work for Weta, of course. The Warthog above, as seen on Pixelated Geek, was made by a company called Custom Creations, and was built for the Halo fan film, Operation Chastity. That's right, it was made for a fan film. Not to put too fine a point on it, but had we been tasked with building a Warthog, it probably wouldn't even be as good as modified Power Wheels. Suffice it to say, it's pretty nice. To see some pics of the Warthog's construction process -- it took approximately a year to build -- head over to the official Operation Chastity website. The project begins filming in 2010.

It figures. The moment we hear the rumor that Spielberg is interested in making a Halo movie, we learn about an intriguing fan film that we have to imagine would be in deep trouble if a studio project got off the ground. The Britain-based "Chastity Project" is looking to raise around £30,000 (roughly $49,000) to film a movie of the same name in the spring of next year. They'd be a lot easier to write off as nut jobs if they hadn't already crafted some really cool props, like the Warthog-in-progress you can see above. Here's hoping the lawyers don't inevitably crush their dreams.[Thanks, Dylan]

  • WoW Moviewatch: Leeroy 5 - For the Horde

Occasionally, we're reminded that WoW Moviewatch isn't just machinima. It can be live action movies, also. Today's film proves exactly that, because there's no way I could pass it up. Herculean Productions has released their new episode, Leeroy 5 - For the Horde.I love this Leeroy as much as I loved Leeroy 4. They're having fun, and totally rocking out with their enjoyment of the game. The little gags and spoofs are done with a deep affection for the subect, and that translates into a bouyant film experience. The special effects are just enough to convey the game events they're describing, and the team uses creative angles to make the "inside" of an instance believable. As a significant note, however, the predictable "Leeroy Jenkins" jokes finally made their way into the series. Considering the cultural history of Jenkins to WoW players, I found the references satisfying. So, click here to check out Leeroy 5. You'll either thank me, or flame me. Either way, I think you'll have some fun with this movie. If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch

  • WoW Moviewatch: Leeroy 4 - The Wailing Caverns

Some movies are created using machinima -- finely honed in-game graphics, tuned to tell the author's story with sizzling detail. Others are creating using more traditional media, like hand-drawn art. And some, like Leeroy 4 - The Wailing Caverns, are created in Live Action, using nothing more than a pure sense of fun and obvious love of the game. It's the creation of Herculean Productions, and I've rarely had so much fun with a fan film. The acting is over-the-top, scene chewing goodness. I like to think that even William Shatner would be proud of these boys. The story is simple enough to support this kind of shenanigan performance. In a quick summary, Leeroy is putting together a group to go to the Wailing Caverns. This is the LFG phase of that endeavour. The costumes hit the right tone, in my opinion. If the clothes had been much fancier, then they'd be calling into the question the genre of the piece. This isn't meant to be high, Shakespearean art. It's supposed to be funny and tongue-in-cheek. You're not supposed to be gauging things like production values; you're supposed to be having the same kind of fun the actors are having. My hat's off to Leeroy. This was great. Click here to go check it out yourself. If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ..

Chances are, you probably won't find this upcoming fan-made film adaptation of Tekken to be as titilating as Maxim's Tekken girls photo shoot. This impressive-looking fan effort, entitled Tekken: King of Iron Fist, will feature some pretty accurate cosplaying, mixed with some action sequences. From the looks of things, this may be better than "official" Ewe Boll-produced film massacres.[Via Gamespot]

Well, since I don't speak the Taiwanese language (I think that's what this is in), I have no idea what they're singing about, but this is definitely one of the best-edited WoW fan videos I've seen in some time. It's called Eternal Legend, and even unintelligible, it's still quite enjoyable. Kudos to the creator; check it out below.
