There's a new trailer for EA's upcoming GTAIV lookalike The Godfather II and it puts a spotlight on the crew. The Godfather's crew. You know, folks like The Safecracker, The Medic, The Engineer, The Bruiser, The Demolitionist and The Arsonist. Sounds to be a bit like a Team Fortress game. Confirmed! The Godfather II = GTAIV + TF2 + Not As Awesome. Trailer after the break.

EA, going against the game releasing grain, will not be delaying Godfather II's release date as is usually the norm when publishers shift around their release schedules. Instead, they'll be bumping Godfather II's release date ahead (an expedite?) to late February. The 24th in North America and the 27th in Europe, to be exact. That means that a game that we really haven't seen or heard much of will be releasing in a little over a month's time. Interesting decision EA, now how about spending that marketing budget?

EA's The Godfather II will be hitting PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on February 24th in North America, and February 27th in Europe. The open-world game promises to be a more strategic affair than before with the new "Don's View" feature, allowing you to see a 3D representation of your criminal activity across all three of the game's cities. Those who pre-order the game will have a distinct advantage. The pre-order bonus is an exclusive in-game character, Tommy Cipolla. Other characters in the game start off with just one skill and a level-one weapon, while Tommy is truly a talented guy. He has two skills (arsonist and medic) and can carry a level-two shotgun. How badass. Surely, this is an offer you can't refuse.%Gallery-29683%

EA's The Godfather II - the violent followup to the original Godfather game - will be releasing to retail early next year and for those who were worried that there wouldn't be enough bloody violent violence, then this trailer should squelch your fears. This latest "Brutality" trailer shows us exactly why it's so ... uh, brutal. Baseball bats to the heads, executions, bodies being tossed off the roof, and groin kicks. Now, ain't that a kick in the head?

As any respectable Don will tell you, serving as the CEO of a powerful crime syndicate is not an easy thing to do. You won't find any classes on racketeering at your local community college. Finding a reliable bulk supplier of fedoras and pinstripe suits is nigh-on impossible. Teaching your underlings the fine art of stallion decapitation requires amounts of patience and equine physiology that very few men possess.Luckily, the upcoming sequel to EA's well-recieved adaptation of Coppola's magnum opus, The Godfather II, looks to be an in-depth survival guide on the nuances of mafia management -- perfect for that up-and-coming kingpin in your life. The above trailer shows some of the finer points of Donship, and gives a great look at some of the lovely locales we'll be viciously extorting come February. That little Cuban restaurant would look so charming with a prostitution ring in the back room, don't you agree?

EA has opened the briefcase on Godfather 2, revealing that the sequel you can't refuse will ship for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in February 2009. EA also shed a bit more detail on the previously revealed "Don's View," which promises to kiss the gameplay with a touch of strategy. Here you'll build up, expand, and defend crime rings against rival families by hand picking "Made Men," and sending them out onto the streets to do your bidding. Godfather 2 will also include the previous game's BlackHand control scheme, promising "more visceral hand-to-hand brutality" this time around. As the old saying goes, if you want something done right, do it yourself.

  • Godfather 2 detailed -- less GTA; more RPG, RTS, board game

Xbox World 360 magazine brings forth details of EA's forthcoming Godfather 2 game – helpfully extracted by sister-publication CVG – describing the sequel as "Scarface meets Total War." To further contextualize that pairing, the game is dropping some of that GTA-clone vibe in favor of the far less popular "sandbox game with RPG, RTS and erm, board game elements"-vibe.If the game isn't content straddling just one game type, why should locales be any different? Following the plot of its cinematic namesake, Godfather 2 jet-sets from Miami to Havana to New York City. Want more numbers? The game packs six character classes – "bruiser, demolitions expert, arsonist, medic, safe cracker and engineer" – and each character can have one of twelve different "personalities." Here's some simple back-of-the-box math for y'all: six character classes times twelve personalities equals an amazing 72 playable characters (except not really). Other features include "Don's View" (that's where the RTS magic comes in) and a perks system (thanks, board games!). No word on multiplayer, but EA's just getting this hype machine started before the game's ought-nine release. Give 'em time.

According to Shacknews, EA CEO John Riccitiello mentioned a little game called The Godfather 2 during EA's annual investor conference call and sorta spilled the game's release date beans. Riccitiello told investors that The Godfather 2 would be hitting retail shelves sometime in late 2008 or early 2009, specifically saying that it would release "a few months"after the November release of EA's other Fall title, Left 4 Dead. Godfather delicious.

Hmm, that headline was kind of misleading, wasn't it? Let's try again. Godfather II has no RTS elements and an Academy Award-winning performance from Robert DeNiro. Godfather II: The Game will possess at least some RTS elements, in addition to the Grand Theft Vito gameplay you remember from the first game. The tidbit came from EA CEO John Riccitiello who said "it's almost like you're in an RTS, controlling the strategy of the boroughs so you can see what's going on." EA Redwood Shores is apparently working on the game, presumably on their breaks from finishing up Dead Space. Riccitiello says that G II: TG is a title we'll be talking a lot about in the fall, let's hope we don't have to wait until then to hear more.

During a William Blair & Company's investor meeting earlier this week, EA boss John Riccitiello mentioned that their EA Redwood Shores studio is currently hard at work on a sequel to Godfather, conveniently called Godfather II. Surprise!More interesting is what Riccitiello then went on to say about Godfather II's interesting gameplay twist, telling investors that "you can play this game both at the street level, much like a GTA-style game, but you can also play it top-down, almost like you're in an RTS, controlling the strategy of the boroughs so you can see what's going on..." He also mentioned that it's a game they'll be "talking a lot about this fall", pretty much slating it for a 2009 release.GTA-style Godfather with a hint of RTS? Color us confused yet intrigued.

  • Godfather 2 in development, it breaks our heart

Just when you think you're out, they pull you back in. In a stockholder meeting yesterday Frank Gibeau, head of EA Games, said Godfather 2 is currently in development. Fredo Corleone better watch out. Although, he's still got time to make up his mind if going fishing is a smart idea, the game currently has no official announcement or release date.We expect Godfather II to have a more expansive San Andreas feel to it compared to the original. Godfather II the film not only had many more locations than The Godfather, but it also had two different time periods. It may actually be cool if the developers allow you to play a character who skips back and forth through time working for Vito and Michael. An official announcement should explain much more in the coming months, but considering The Godfather for Wii was made by using a scaled down version of the PS3 game, it looks like all console owners will be able to enjoy the sequel.
