Apple Stores are being targeted by thieves dressed as employees
People say carrying a clipboard, wearing a hard hat and acting like you belong can get you into any place you want. Well, a number of thieves in NYC adopted that idea to steal thousands of dollars worth of iPhones. They simply dressed like Apple Store employees and went straight to the shops' storage drawers. Back in March, a store on the Upper West Side was targeted by fake personnel twice. The location lost 67 iPhones, which amounts to almost $50,000, from the heist. This time, someone stole 19 iPhones from the company's retail store in SoHo.
GTA Online heists breaking and entering 2015 with new trailer
Grand Theft Auto 5 will get its cooperative online heist missions in early 2015, Rockstar Games revealed today. The developer originally expected to add heists to GTA Online this past spring, apologizing for the delay later in June. As of November, Rockstar said online heists would surface in the game's online world following GTA 5's next-gen launch. As the latest trailer for the game shows, the online heist missions appear to feature a number of vehicles, such as planes and helicopters; you can head past the break to sneak a peek. Rockstar apologizes for Online Heists delay in GTA Online
The Online Heists feature was supposed to hit Grand Theft Auto Online in the spring, but it's nearly summer and no dice. Fans have been clamoring for the co-op mission madness of Online Heists, and Rockstar addressed those cries in a comment on the "I'm Not a Hipster" update post: "We know many fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the Online Heists that we had planned to release for you this spring, and they are taking more time to create than originally anticipated. We are very sorry for the delay, and are working hard to bring them to you as soon as we can. Please know that we are focused as always on making the best possible content for you to play and we are thankful to all of you for your patience, understanding and support. Stay tuned for more information on that as well as lots of other ongoing content updates, enhancements and additions to the world of GTA Online that are on the way." There's no word yet on when exactly the feature will be implemented, but it sounds like the team at Rockstar is making it one of their heist priorities. [Image: Rockstar]
Organized bandits make off with $12 million worth of PC components
In a daring early morning heist that could just as easily have been a scene from a movie like, um, The Heist, 20-plus well-organized robbers infiltrated a Malaysian warehouse complex on Monday, immediately subdued all 17 employees, and proceeded to steal over $12 million worth of microchips and motherboards. The thieves were able to gain access to the facility through a classic Trojan horse maneuver, wherein drivers of a truck that rolled up to the MASKargo Complex gate in Batu Maung, Penang tricked customs officials into believing that they were doing an undercover sweep for illegal immigrants. Once inside, the rest of the bandits lept out of the back of the vehicle and used chloroform to knock out the passive workers and sticks to beat down the non-compliant ones. It took the team nearly an hour to load up an astounding 18 pallets and 585 cartons full of components belonging to an unnamed multi-national corporation based out of Bayan Lepas, after which they sped off into the night with their valuable, high-tech booty. Police claim to have already captured two suspects in the case -- both were, shockingly , workers at the complex -- and are in the midst of hunting down the rest of the gang that pulled off what was clearly an inside job. As for the copious amount of missing PC hardware, officials speculate that the bandits will either sell them to shady OEMs on the black market, or, more likely, use them to build a supercomputer for leapfrogging to the top of the Folding@Home rankings.[Via The Inquirer]
