Watching the Kickstarter pitch video for steampunk-themed adventure game Blackmore is like watching your favorite band get back together - if your favorite song by said band was the cyberpunk adventure game Snatcher, that is. Jeremy Blaustein, localizer for Snatcher, Metal Gear Solid and the Silent Hill series, is heading up a new studio called iQiOi in hopes of developing Blackmore, a game he says has been his "dream" since he started working in the industry. His dream has until March 12 to raise $200,000. Blaustein has tapped several other creators who contributed to Snatcher as well. Satoshi Yoshioka will reprise his role as character designer, while Motoaki Furukawa will handle the game's soundtrack. Blaustein has also recruited David Hayter to voice main character Emma Blackmore's brother, Jonas. There's no footage or screenshots available yet, though the game's Kickstarter page describes gameplay as "classic point and click" in a isometric-view, 2.5D environment. Players will guide Emma through a gadget-laden, steam-powered vision of 1888 London on a quest to catch a murderer. Those more historically-minded may recognize the date as the year Jack The Ripper began his infamous killing spree. Should Blackmore pick up enough steam - and money - Blaustein plans to release the game for PC and Mac in spring of 2015.

The rumors began in 2009 -- whispers of a game from EA and Visceral based on one of the most notorious serial killers of all time, Jack the Ripper. Visceral was said to be seen hunched over its work table, working on its downloadable title The Ripper and laughing manically until some time in 2010, when the project faded away without a trace. Finally, in 2012, we may have cracked The Ripper wide open. Former Visceral concept artist Joey Spiotto has a batch of concept art for an unnamed game on his website, and it leads to one obvious conclusion -- The Ripper. Spiotto lists work on his LinkedIn profile on an unannounced project for Visceral from 2008-2009, and directly after for EA, where he says the project was canceled in 2009.The screens depict shadowy figures, bloody vampire-esque characters, acrobatics, a leading lady and a cane katana of some kind. Check out the full run of screens on Spiotto's website.

[The Illustrated London News; October 13, 1888] Of the many highlights from the Wedbush firm's visit to EA HQ last week, as recorded in analyst Michael Pachter's report on the publisher released to media outlets today, one stuck out like, well, like a 19th century serial killer. Pachter has apparently announced Ripper, a "new PSN, Xbox Live game" from Visceral Games. In other words, put two and two together, my dear Watson, and that rumored Jack the Ripper game is actually Visceral Games' reported downloadable project. Pachter's notes don't provide additional details on the Ripper game and only reiterate that Visceral also has Dead Space 2 in development. When questioned, a Visceral Games representative issued a "no comment" to Joystiq. We'll keep sleuthing around for clues, though -- and in the meantime, kindly report any suspicious-looking games to our tips line.

  • EA trademarks 'The Ripper,' could be Visceral's next game

It's a well-known fact that for the past year or so, Electronic Arts has developed an insatiable addiction for new intellectual property. Rather than kick the habit, the company's making moves to further feed its franchise fixation -- EA recently filed two trademarks reserving the title "The Ripper" for use in a computer game (or other "entertainment service"). Now, this title could mean one of two things: It may be a Visceral Games-developed action title based on Jack the Ripper, a project which was hinted at by anonymous EA sources to the LA Times back in July. It could also be an interactive biography of the life of Rip Taylor, which has no supporting evidence behind it whatsoever, but would make us happy for the rest of our lives. [Via Superannuation]

Sherlock Holmes is bringing the fight to legendary slasher Jack the Ripper on the Xbox 360. According to Shacknews, the upcoming adventure game is currently in development for the console by Spiders Games and will pit the world-famous detective against the heinous serial-killer.A PC version of Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper (developed by Frogwares Studio) has already seen a release in Europe and should ship Stateside sometime in the summer. What will happen when Holmes squares off against Jack? We're hoping for the camera to pullout to reveal the entire adventure was a setup for a Mortal Kombat style fighter. Or maybe that's a bad idea.
