    06.19.2014

Loads of new eShop games this week, though it's fair to say there are standouts. Top of the pile in more ways than one is Pushmo World on Wii U, with 250 block-pushing puzzles to solve this time around. Meanwhile, Iconic 1991 cinematic adventure Another World is doing the rounds again, and that includes Wii U and 3DS. It didn't take as long as Another World, but How to Survive hits Wii U finally this week too. If you prefer something a bit more sedate, Farming Simulator '14 has a few jobs for you on 3DS. As ever, we've got all the new releases below the break. That just leaves sales to talk ab-oh man, there are a few of those too. When the eShop updates, Toki Tori 2+ and Fractured Soul will both be discounted to $6 until July 3, while Shin Megami Tensei 4 is $25 until June 23. You can find more on the new eShop sales here.

Tomodachi Life, Nintendo's answer to what happens when Sims hit their head, is the next headline game on 3DS. It not out until tomorrow, but in the interim there's tough-as-spikes platformer 1001 Spikes and GBA mini-adventure The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. Head past the break and you'll find the full list of this week's new releases for the eShop. If it's savings you want, Conception 2 is on sale for $30 while the Just Dance series is grooving to a half-price beat, with Just Dance 4 down to $25. Both those offers end on June 9.

Let's face it, if you're a Wii U owner you're well aware Mario Kart 8 is out tomorrow. It's the series' first HD entry, when you register it online you get a code for a free game, and you know this. But, maybe for some foul reason you're less Mario Kart 8 and more Mario Kart Hate. Luckily for you, you fiend, there are other games out on Nintendo systems this week. First off there's Ittle Dew, a familiarly heroic adventure that's making a far too appropriate jump to Wii U. The influx of GBA games for Wii U continues with Klonoa: Empire of Dreams, and retro fans can also grab Mega Man Xtreme 2 on 3DS. Sales-wise, a 33-percent cut pushes 3DS games Pushmo and Crashmo down to $4.69 and $6 respectively. That offer ends on June 13, a week before Pushmo World drops on Wii U.

This week's eShop games are brought to you by the letter "S." We have Swords & Soldiers HD, Squids Odyssey, Street Fighter Alpha 2 and, er, Sega San S... Alright, it's Mega Man V for Game Boy. You're no fun. As ever, we've got the full list of new releases below the break, but don't forget about the sales. Aeternoblade will drop by 33 percent to $10 between May 23 and 26, while starting today and ending June 4, Blok Drop U is a quarter off at $1.49.

    05.16.2014

It's a steady week on the eShop ahead of this month's big kahuna - that's Mario Kart 8, by the way - but there are games that may pique your interest. Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails is an unusual shoot-em-up in that you move by scrolling along magnetic rails on the walls - oh, and you're shooting mechanized rats while trying to save all the world's cats. It's out for the Wii U this week, while Wii Party U gets a belated eShop release too. Over on the handheld, there's the debut of Renegade Kid's enhanced episodic remake of Moon Chronicles (the first episode's priced $9 while the upcoming three chapters are $2 each). Also, Capcom's Mega May continues with Game Boy platformer Mega Man 4. Don't forget Atlus is discounting the two Etrian Odyssey games on 3DS at $20 each, and that sale ends on Monday, May 19. On the same day, a new one starts for Code of Princess and Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor Overclocked, down to $15 each until June 5. [Image: Dakko Dakko]

    05.08.2014

May's all about Mega Man's Game Boy advance on the 3DS, and that continues this week with Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 3. As for the non-Mega games, only one of them is on Wii U this week and it's another retro offering. If you enjoyed all those GBA games from last month, you might want to point your GamePad the way of Wario Land 4. Back on the portable, then, the headline new release is reality-augmenting RPG The Denpa Men 3. If you'd prefer to try before you buy there's a demo version you can check out. Finally... sales! Trine 2: Director's Cut is 50 percent off for three weeks, starting today - that should take it down to $10. Also, Etrian Odyssey 4 and Etrian Odyssey Untold go on sale for a week starting May 12, but what their exact discounts are remains... untold. Well, at least until Nintendo or Atlus pipes up. This week's eShop update is a big tease. NES Remix 2? Not out 'til tomorrow. Child of Light? Next week, on April 29. At least you can play Mario Golf: World Tour today - in a demo. As for what's launching today, there's the last of April's Game Boy Advance games in Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, and a few other bits and bobs too - as ever, we've got the full list of new releases after the break. Finally, there's also a new two-week sale on Joindots' games, including Secret Agent Files: Miami and 3D MahJongg. [Image: Ubisoft]

Virtual Console games are out in full force this week, with heavy hitters landing on both Wii U and 3DS. The biggest of the bunch is Super Mario Bros. 3, available on 3DS and Wii U. Meanwhile, the Wii U picks up even more Game Boy Advance games with Golden Sun and F-Zero: Maximum Velocity. Starting April 22, LEGO The Hobbit makes the long journey to Wii U as well. A pair of Ubisoft Wii U titles are also getting a permanent discount on Wii U, namely Assassin's Creed 4: Blag Flag and the excellent ZombiU. Starting April 21, Black Flag drops to $39.99, and ZombiU's price is gnawed down to $29.99. [Image: Nintendo]

Joystiq: Hey Reggie Fils-Aime, what do you think about this week's new eShop releases? Reggie: Tomodachi Tomodachi Tomodachi Tomodachi Tomodachi Tomodachi Tom... Couldn't have said it better, Reg, although you could've noted Kirby and the Amazing Mirror and WarioWare Inc on the Wii U, and Conception 2 and Lego: The Hobbit on 3DS. If your body is ready for more info, head past the break for the full list of new releases. Also, look out for some eShop sales, including DuckTales: Remastered sproinging to half-price at $7.49 - that offer's good until April 17. Between April 12-27 you can get Escape from Zombie City at 50 percent off, which should equal to $2,. Finally, G-Style Co has a sale on its collection of games including Chain Blaster and Undead Bowling, and that's also running for a couple of weeks starting April 12. [Image: Nintendo]

  • New Nintendo eShop releases: GBA arrives on Wii U Virtual Console

    04.04.2014

This week sees the first wave of Game Boy Advance games make their way onto the Wii U Virtual Console, starting with Metroid: Fusion, Advance Wars, and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. If that doesn't satiate your retro hunger, there's still the likes of Golden Sun and Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 to come later this month - check out April's full list of GBA re-releases here. On the more fresh-faced front, the Wii U port of 3DS and Vita 2.5D platformer Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate is out now in North America, complete with enhanced visuals and an improved map system. Sorry Europe, you'll have to wait a couple of weeks longer. Things then take a turn for the surreal with Rusty's Real Deal Baseball. The free download pits you against wheeler dealer Rusty Slugger as you haggle over the genuine, real-life eShop prices of baseball minigames - when Nintendo goes weird, it goes properly weird. Finally, sales news for plumbers masquerading as doctors: If you own or buy the recent re-release of Dr. Mario on the Wii U Virtual Console, you can get $5 off Dr. Luigi if you grab it before 9AM PT/midday ET on April 10. • New Nintendo eShop releases: Sonic Lost World DLC, Dr. Mario, Clu Clu Land

    03.27.2014

March has been a busy month for gaming, and clearly the Nintendo eShop is all tuckered out and in need of a rest ahead of next month's Game Boy Advance rush. This week is so quiet that arguably the headline new release is the Zelda-themed DLC speeding towards Sonic: Lost World, and you can find more about that by heading over here. Outside of that, the re-release of Dr. Mario provides absolute confirmation the Year of Luigi is over and normal Mario-based service is resumed. The NES color-matching pill-dropper comes to the Wii U this week, while underwater gold-grabber Clu Clu Land is bound for the 3DS Virtual Console. Our favorite release of the week, however, has to be the simply titled I am an Air Traffic Controller Airport Hero Hawaii. "Let's try air traffic control in an atmosphere of a summer resort," its trailer cheerily exclaims, where we'll find "SEA," "SUN," and, er,"SQUALL." We're assuming that refers to sudden rises in wind speed and not the mostly mute misanthrope from Final Fantasy 8, although we'd very much like the 3DS game to prove us wrong. If the new releases are a bit of a wash, Ubisoft's sale might tempt you back to some older ones. The publisher has select games discounted until 8.59AM PT/5.59AM ET on March 31, including Joystiq faves like Rayman Legends, down from $40 to 28, and ZombiU, half-off at $30. The full list of Ubisoftened prices can be found here. [Image: Sonic Powered Co.]

  • New Nintendo eShop releases: Pokemon Battle Trozei, Yumi's Odd Odyssey

    03.20.2014

This week's headline new release is Pokemon Battle Trozei, a game that mixes the series' trademark critter-battling with one of gaming's most prolific genres, the match-3 puzzler. If you've caught 'em all in Pokemon X/Y, you can get reacquainted with every known Pokemon in Battle Trozei - at last count, there were 7,543,207 known species of Pokemon. So it might take you a while. Moving on, games are always finding new ways to enliven the art of fishing, and Yumi's Odd Odyssey tries it by mixing the pastime with platforming. Yumi breaks all kinds of fishing etiquette in the 3DS game, from using her line to swing and catapult over gaps to beating up all kinds of piscine enemies. She's a fishing renegade, that Yumi. There are a few new sales and offers to close things out: Renegade Kid has a 30 percent sale on select 3DS games including Mutant Mudds, ATV Wild Ride 3D and Bomb Monkey, while Nordic Games is discounting some of its Wii U games including Jeapordy and Wheel of Fortune. Finally, Nintendo is offering free access to all of Wii Sports Club between March 21 9AM PT and midnight PT on March 23. As ever, we've got this week's full list of new releases after the break.

  • New Nintendo eShop releases: Yoshi's New Island, Super Mario Bros - The Lost Levels

    03.13.2014

There are plenty of new releases to dig into on the eShop this week, including the return of everyone's favorite sneaker-wearing dino-thing in 3DS platformer Yoshi's New Island. All but one of the games out this week are for the Nintendo handheld; the only new release on Wii U is a retro release, and that's Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels. The Lost Levels is the true sequel to the original Super Mario Bros. - SMB2 is awesome, we know, but facts are facts. The game famously didn't make it out of Japan until it was re-released in the SNES compilation Super Mario All-Stars, and finally Western players got to grips with some really challenging Mario. Not that the first SMB isn't tricky because it is, especially if you don't use warp pipes, but The Lost Levels is, er, another level. Anyway, the Virtual Console version is the NES game rather than the SNES re-release, and it's priced at $5. Finally, look out for discounts on Steamworld Dig on 3DS, which should be going down from $9 to $4.50 - that sale ends 9AM PT/12PM ET on March 16 - and on Zen's collection of 3DS pinball games, which will all be half-off between March 17-31.

  • New Nintendo eShop releases: Blok Drop U, NES Open Tournament Golf

    03.06.2014

This week's round of eShop releases is more for the retro-heads among you. For starters NES nostalgics can to take to different kinds of green in Adventure Island 2 (3DS) and NES Open Tournament Golf (Wii U), while fans of 1980s anime Mysterious Cities of Gold may be tempted by 3DS puzzle-adventure Secret Paths. On the new releases side, puzzler Blok Drop U has one of the cheapest launch prices (if not the cheapest) you'll find on Wii U, or any console for that matter. It's also one of the first HTML5 games on the system, so we may see others pitched at similar prices. Talking of low prices and retro, Runner2 is getting a sale starting next week on March 10: The rhythmic auto-runner slides from $15 to $5 until 9AM PT/midday ET on March 17.

  • New Nintendo eShop releases: Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Weapon Shop de Omasse

    02.20.2014

Like the fifth/fourth/sixth world of a Mario, there's an icy theme to this week's list of eShop games. Well okay, that only really applies to Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Ice Hockey, but there are ice worlds in Kung Fu Rabbit, Quell Reflect, and Sky Kid too, maybe. Let's focus on 3DS downloadable-only Weapon Shop de Omasse. It's the final game in Level 5's Guild 01 series, a series that saw the studio team up with three acclaimed designers ... and one acclaimed comedian. Guess which one the comedian worked on? The man in question Yoshiyuki Hirai of comedy duo America Zarigani, and his game places you in an item shop where heroes can buy weapons for quests. Your task is to forge those weapons by hammering them down in a rhythm-tapping mini-game, with more rhythmic forging resulting in better crafted gear. There's some terrible pun here about beat-ing the weapons into shape, but you won't see us making it. As ever, the full list of eShop releases awaits you below the break.

  • New Nintendo eShop releases: Aeternoblade, Super C

    02.13.2014

Oh hey, welcome back Tumbleweed, did you have a good week off? There are just three games in this week's eShop update, and one of them is for the Wii U Virtual Console. Admittedly it's Super C, the NES sequel to run-and-gun classic Contra. The 3DS does at least get some new games. Sanuk's Spot the Differences is the epitome of self-explanatory, so let's focus on Aeternoblade, Corecell's side-scrolling combo-builder. The 2D slice-and-dicing gives it an old-school look, but there's also an air of Prince of Persia to its time-bending Aeterno Blade. Using the sword, you can rewind time to reverse deaths, as well as slow time down if things are moving a bit too fast. It's out on February 18 for $15, but in the meantime you can check out a demo. We'll (hopefully!) see a lot more games in today's Nintendo Direct, but before we start looking ahead to that, let's round out the remaining bits and bobs. Party game Spin the Bottle is getting six new camera-orientated mini-games as DLC. They're free to original purchasers, but the game's price will go up as a result - a warning for future buyers. Also, Rising Star has a sale on its 3DS selection of games, including Beyblade Evolution and the Jewel Master games, while Urban Trial Freestyle is half-price at $3.50 for another week.

  • New Nintendo eShop releases: Bravely Default, Retro City Rampage DX

New games! Yes, it would be nice to have a few more exciting eShop-only types, but at least we can start sending that tumbleweed on its way. Bravely Default headlines the also-at-retail games, and we'd recommend checking it out. In our four star review, we lauded the 3DS JRPG for mixing Final Fantasy sensibilities with modern design. Whether a new promo trailer really conveys that ... well, it doesn't, but it made us chuckle so we're throwing it in here. On the downloadable-only front, felonious indie Retro City Rampage comes to 3DS with lots of major tweaks, and it's another we had plenty nice to say about. Also, bike-former/plat-biker Urban Trial Freestyle is down to $3.50, starting later today and ending February 20. Oh, and don't forget the Super Indie Connection sale runs until February 13.

Nintendo brought forth three games to the 3DS and Wii U eShops today. This week's selections are highlighted by The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, which is now available on the Wii U Virtual Console for $7.99. The 3DS side of the eShop sees the release of Selectsoft's strategic puzzler Castle Clout 3D as well as the addition of Mario Bros. to the Virtual Console for $4.99 each. Nintendo also started a "Super Indie Connection Sale," in which players that buy one of five select indie games on the Wii U eShop will get the others at a 60 percent discount. The five games included in the deal are Spin the Bottle: Bumpie's Party, Bit.Tip Presents Runner 2, Gianna Sisters: Twisted Dreams, Toki Tori 2+ and Mighty Switch Force Hyper Drive Edition. As for sales this week, Big John Games' 3DS physics-based puzzle game Ohno Odyssey is on sale for $3.99 until February 20. Lastly, Nintendo is making The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition available for free this weekend for 3DS owners. Wii U The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Nintendo, 1 player, $7.99) 3DS Mario Bros. (Nintendo, 2 players simultaneous, $4.99) Castle Clout 3D (Selectsoft, 2 players simultaneous, $4.99)

So, two Virtual Console games this week. Careful Nintendo, you might pull something. We saw classic shoot-em-up Gradius hit the eShop earlier this month, and following it up this week is spin-off Salamander, or Life Force as it's known in our part of the world. That's on the 3DS, while the Wii U gets explosive-hungry NES-former Mighty Bomb Jack. That's it, except for sales: Shin Megami Tensei 4 is down to $30 between January 27 and February 3, while you have until February 6 to grab Fractured Soul for $6.

    01.16.2014

Things are still a bit slooooooow as far as new eShop content goes - that headline covers all of this week's new releases - but hey, let's pick apart the bones. Unepic has been around since 2011, but today marks its debut on Wii U. It's a platformer with RPG elements, evoking classic D&D and NES-style gameplay - or, in the words of Nintendo's own blurb, "Unepic is a mixture of platform game, role game and joke that takes place in a huge castle of medieval fantasy. It is set in the eighty's style, but completed with the most actual features." Ahem. As for F1 Race Stars Powered Up Edition, the Wii U edition of Codies' cutesy karter adds four tracks, nine accessory packs, and motion and tilt controls for a GamePad steering wheel. Also, there's Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest to keep the Virtual Console ticking along. Lastly but not leastly, Etrian Odyssey Untold is half-off at $20 until January 27.
