The NES version of Donkey Kong arrives today on the 3DS's Virtual Console, meanwhile, and players can look forward to snuggling canines and equines alike in the one-two pet-sim punch that is Barbie Groom and Glam Pups and My Western Horse 3D.

On this week's eShop menu, there's a fine-looking Wii U dish in DuckTales, which has been Remastered for modern tastes. Maybe pick that up with a 2013 vintage of Spin the Bottle, which we recommend sharing with a few lively friends. If you'd prefer something to go, you could always try a double helping of Italian with Mario & Luigi: Dream Team on 3DS. Wii U DuckTales: Remastered (Capcom, 1 player, available August 13) Spin the Bottle: Bumpie's Party (KnapNok Games, 8 players, $8.99) Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire (Tecmo Koei, 8 players, $7.99) 3DS Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (Nintendo, 1 player, available August 11) Smash Bowling 3D (Big John Games, 1 player, $4.99) SteamWorld Dig (Image & Form, 1 player, $8.99) Tangram Style (Moving Player, 1 player, $6.99)

It's a pretty full week on the Nintendo eShop, especially for the Wii U. The console picks up the stupidly difficult Cloudberry Kingdom, and Virtual Console adds Harvest Moon. Pikmin 3 also marches onto the Wii U eShop on August 4 (be sure to read our review!). Meanwhile, the 3DS grabs Kirby's Dream Land 2.

Kid Icarus flaps his ineffectual wings on the Wii U Virtual Console this week. The 3DS picks up a new puzzler, Picross E2. That's pretty much it for high profile releases, but then who wants to follow Earthbound?

Virtual Console is doing much of the heavy lifting on the Nintendo eShop this week, with three classics making their way to the service. The 3DS snags Super Mario Bros. 2, while the Wii U picks up Metroid and Donkey Kong. Beyond these, the only new release dropping today is Star Wars Pinball on Wii U. Come July 16, you'll be able to dive into Shin Megami Tensei 4 on 3DS. Our review praised the RPG for its involving demon fusion system, noting that Shin Megami Tensei 4 is "a great entry point" for players new to the series. Keep in mind that if you register both Shin Megami Tensei 4 and Fire Emblem: Awakening with Club Nintendo by August 31, you'll pick up $30 in eShop credit.

As a nation recovers from a fireworks-induced stupor, Nintendo gives us something else to celebrate: Pilotwings on the Wii U Virtual Console. Beyond that, the week pretty much belongs to the 3DS with even more Virtual Console Game Gear games – including Sonic Drift 2 – and several standalone eShop releases. Also, if you haven't tried out the first Mighty Switch Force, now is the time to do it. Both the 3DS original and the Wii U's Hyper Drive Edition are on sale for $3.99 and $6.67, respectively, until 9am PT on July 11. Two other 3DS downloads, Order Up and Planet Crashers, will be discounted from 9am PT July 8 through 9am PT, July 22. You'll be able to grab either one for $4.99.

This week's slate of eShop games is a bit of a mixed bag. The Wii U gets only one new Virtual Console entry in the form of SNES gambling game, Vegas Stakes. On the 3DS, however, it's a veritable cornucopia of VC games with Spelunker and three new Game Gear games, including Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Crystal Warriors and Sonic Labyrinth. Outside of Virtual Console, the 3DS also picks up Urban Trial Freestyle, which isn't to be confused with the Trials series (although the developer is probably hoping you will). We also have Kokuga, a shooter from G.Rev and the creator of Ikaruga, and Gabrielle's Ghostly Groove Mini, presumably a snack-sized version of the 2011 WiiWare game. Also, as promised, the Project X Zone "Ghost" demo will launch on July 2. Finally, Club Nintendo is running a promotion on Wii U Virtual Console games. Purchase any Wii U VC game between June 28, 12:00am PT, and June 30, 11:59pm PT, and you'll get 20 bonus coins.

Meanwhile, the Wii U Virtual Console picks up Mega Man X and Ghosts N' Goblins (not to be confused with Super Ghouls N' Ghosts, which came out earlier this month). From now until June 6, purchasing one of these games will get you the other for half price. Finally, there's a Just Dance 4 sale going on – you can pick up the game or select DLC for 30 percent off until June 4.
