  • Earthbound cubeecraft is out of this world

Even with its ESRB rating, we can't help but be skeptical about Earthbound descending onto the Virtual Console. While we'd like nothing more, it seems too good to be true that Starmen.net's hard-fought battle to get the game on the VC would finally end in victory. As we've also mentioned, an ESRB rating does not necessarily equate to a Virtual Console release.Since all we can do now is wait and see, we have to find Earthbound related ways to keep ourselves busy. Aside from playing games like Smash Bros., we thought we'd try our hand at some Earthbound cubeecraft (aka papercraft). Is it just us, or does Mr. Saturn look rather swank when shaped like a cube? • GTAIV papercraft is adorable, violent

We always felt something was missing from Grand Theft Auto IV and we couldn't seem to put our finger on it, thankfully Tubbypaws blog has shown us the way. Combining two-parts street with one-part adorable, the GTAIV papercraft really captures the raw essence of Grand Theft Auto. Come on. Look at it. The entire papercraft screams "murder simulator!" Note to you big handed people looking to get all Martha Stewart with this papercraft, be patient because it's smaller than it looks (instructions at the source).

Because let's face it: you won't be rescuing that Triforce as a pile of ash. In fact, now that we think some more about this, these wouldn't be much good in the Water Temple either, or anywhere that is remotely windy (thus ruling out the Isle of Gust).Heck, maybe these papercraft Links would just be safer making our desks look totally rad. Glad we agree.%Gallery-22769%[Via That Girl's Site]

  • World of Papercraft encore... and it kicks major hiney!

Ok, I know we already covered this yesterday, but what can we do? When we see something that blows us away (and concerns World of Warcraft, of course), we just have to share it with you. Tipster Salaami pointed me to a papercraft site made by Canadian blogger PMF, an architect who seems to enjoy making papercraft models of World of Warcraft. He hasn't made models in a few months, but if you're into papercraft -- or, since it is extended maintenance -- you can try your hand at constructing a few of the plans yourself. You can download various plans from the awesome Kodos, Orc and Dwarven mailboxes, or start easy with a... wrench. Yes, there are actually plans for a World of Warcraft arclight spanner. There's even that King Bangalash that Mike was looking forward to. It might even be something our self-confessed curmudgeon Matthew can get into instead of waiting on a Figureprints lottery. The best part? The plans on PMF's blog are actually free, so you can simply download the links, print them out, and start papercrafting away. Of course, most of the designs require a Papercrafting skill of 375, but hey, you can always make a bunch of arclight spanners to skill up. Check out yesterday's gallery with additions from PMF's site.%Gallery-20544%

We've seen all sorts of fan-made World of Warcraft crafts from clay sculptures to tiny felt dolls. Now, a fan from China has come up with some interesting paper sculptures of WoW characters. Posting on a forum, a fan showed some mad papercraft skills with paper renditions of familiar Warcraft NPCs such as Keeper Remulos, Gordo, and Baron Rivendare. The crafter also seems to be more of a Warcraft III fan as one of his works is an Acolyte unit from the popular RTS, as well as a Crypt Lord and some ships from the scenarios. Come to think of it, most of his sculptures look more like War3 units than WoW-themed, but they certainly look nice enough. Besides, they all belong to same World, anyway.%Gallery-20544%

  • Super Nintendo papercraft set brings memories rushing back

Remember the first time you completed a full race on Super Mario Kart (frustrating finish and all)? If you've somehow let less important things push those blissful memories aside, take a glance at ryo007's beautifully assembled papercraft set and see if doesn't start to come back. This palm-sized kit features a detailed SNES console, a couple of controllers and a hollow version of Super Mario All-Stars. Best of all, the creator has hosted a template in order for you, closet SNES lover, to create your own. Finding where you put those scissors, however, may still be a challenge.[Via technabob]Read - SNES papercraft templateRead - SNES papercraft assembled

While not quite as ickle or adorable as the tiny clay NES that had Candace in full-on squeal mode recently, this papercraft SNES is still capable of melting the heart of the most unfeeling gamer. It's the work of deviantART user ryo007, who wisely points out that while other consoles have been rendered in paper, the SNES has, until now, been forgotten about by papercrafters. Our favorite part of this? Those cute-as-all-heck tiny pads and game cartridges! • Busted Game Boy given life with Super Mario papercraft

Call us crazy (or just packrats, whatever), but we can't just toss a dead gadget in good conscience. Apparently, neither can Josh Burker, who decided to convert a busted Game Boy into a beautiful piece of vintage art. Similar to the playable Paper Mario game we spotted about this time last month, Mr. Burker used his papercraft skills to whip up a familiar scene of Super Mario Bros. and mount it within the space where the display used to reside. Gunpei Yokoi would be so proud.[Via DSFanboy]

  • Game Boy makes the perfect home for papercraft

When our handhelds die, we tend to either put them up in the attic (our own little "console heaven"), or throw them across the room in a fit of rage, depending on the circumstances. Never are we as productive as Josh Burker, though, who made an awesome housed diorama with his dead Game Boy.There's no big mystery to this beauty; it's simply a work of papercraft encased by a Game Boy shell (which Josh gutted himself). We know the papercraft is in color, so it's not an accurate artistic portrayal of the DS's portable ancestor, but the creativity and craft work put into this project are astonishing.Hmm, maybe our broken Game Boy is still in the attic somewhere ...[Via Technabob]

  • Wii Warm Up: BLOX head

We're beginning to warm to the idea of a puzzle game based on knocking over a tower of blocks (or BLOX -- nah, blocks). With certain blocks providing special effects (like 'splosions), and the ability to create and share your own structures, there might be a solid puzzler in here, or at least more than just a game about busting stacks of stuff. Plus the block characters are really cute -- so cute that someone has already been inspired to create a papercraft model of the rooster character. Are you slowly coming aboard the BOOM BLOX not-quite-hype-but-at-least-not-disgust train? Have you always been down for some block booming? Or are you outraged that Steven Spielberg's concept for a Wii game doesn't seem to include much in the way of narrative?%Gallery-15446%

Wow. Just ... wow. That is an amazing piece of art and to think it is made from just paper. That's the kind of piece we would pay good money for, but lucky us we don't have to. Any of you successfully make one?[Via Go Nintendo]

Using the official Capcom Phoenix Wright and Edgeworth papercrafts as a template, some brilliant artist has expanded the Phoenix Wright papercraft universe with spot-on Damon Gant and Prosecutor Godot figures. Every detail is perfect, down to Gant's weird gloves (for which he is named) and Godot's ubiquitous coffee mug (Phoenix Wright 3 spoiler: Godot enjoys coffee). It is officially time for this genius to go papercraft crazy and make templates for every character in the Ace Attorney universe, as well as a courtroom set. You know, so we can play with them display authentic recreations of our favorite scenes. Since all that ever happens is talking and pointing, these would be perfect.

If you missed out on purchasing the Halo 3 Legendary Edition in favor of one of the other editions and wish you could experience all the fun the Legendary Edition brings, then we've got something for you. Over at Paper Art Gadgets they've posted complete template downloads for you to create your own Halo 3 Legendary Edition (stand and helmet included) or a Halo 3 Xbox 360 in foldable paper form. The paper downloads can be downloaded right here, but we are not responsible for crippled, carpal tunneled or injured fingers as a result of the tiny paper folding you'll have to go through to create your own Legendary helmet. And, if possible, wear the proper finger protection. We've seen far too many lives ruined as a result of horrendous paper cuts.

  • New toys for Engineers

    10.26.2007

Amanda M. had a tiny mention of this in her big Engineering post earlier, but I felt it deserved another mention. Our friend Boubouille at MMO Champion has discovered that there are new toy models coming for Engineers in 2.3: a rocket chicken (yes, really), a paper gyrocopter and a paper zepplin, and this crazy model above, a dragon kite. Now, I don't mean to rain on Engineers' parades-- they definitely deserve all the love they're getting, and I can't wait to see all the cool stuff they're making out there on the realms. But here's the thing: wasn't the whole problem with Engineering that they were stuck making toys instead of useful items? The Epic Mount is awesome, but is anyone else surprised to see that an "Engineering revamp" includes papercraft toys? This is just more Mechanical Squirrels, which is what Engineers were disappointed with in the first place. An unweighted Companion Cube would be hilarious (Portal has my game of the year vote right now, until I get to check out Mass Effect). But I thought the whole point of beefing up Engineering was to get past these pets. Will letting them do some papercraft really bring the profession up to speed?Update: Or maybe they're not all for Engineers. The Rocket Chicken certain seems like Engineering, but there's speculation floating around, according to our illustrious commenter Kyle, that these are rewards from the new Upper Deck loot cards.

  • Papercraft iPhone update to 1.1.1

Pie.Phage dropped us an updated version of the papercraft iPhone, complete with the WifiTunes music store. He didn't create it, he says-- he just updated the old design. Sure, for those of you who actually have iPhones, this is lame, but for those of us who haven't been able to take the plunge yet, either for financial reasons, contract situations, or just a lack of time to get to the Apple Store (I'm moving tomorrow, ok?), we want our phones updated, too. There are a few problems being reported, however. Apparently, after updating to 1.1.1 on the papercraft iPhones, the screen still doesn't work-- the buttons are frozen in place, and the whole design of the thing is pretty flimsy. Hopefully papercraft Apple and papercraft Jobs are working on a way to work out the wrinkles (ha! I kill me). Thanks, Pie!

Oh cruel fate! Here we are, delivering this exquisite Master Chief papercraft to you complete with instructions, and the only people who would likely take the time to replicate something like this are, you know, playing Halo 3. Bitter irony, thy name is papercraft.Luckily, the artist's work does not have to be in vain. Laymen like us can appreciate the wood pulp-based sculpture from afar without having to actually pick up the scissors and glue. ... Come to think of it, when the Halo dolls become sentinent (and they will) it's probably better that we have as few of these things lying around as possible.[Via Wonderland]

We continue to be intrigued by papercraft, and when there are slick projects like this, how can you blame us? Look, there's even a tiny Wii Sports disc. Now if only we had tiny hands and arms, we could snap on our tiny flaps (so they don't get lost), pick up our tiny Wiimotes, and make some tiny Miis. We've already got the perfect television picked out and ready to go.

Making Link out of paper or spending an afternoon crafting Quake characters is all well and good, but why choose Link when you can sculpt a curvy female forms such as Lara Croft's? Ninjatoes spent grueling hours studying every inch of Lara's polygonal body and has made a papercraft worthy of our attention. With 116 parts, this ain't no paper hat project, so if you want Lara, you'll have to work for her.[Via PaperKraft]
