Sparkle Labs -- an online DIY electronics kit maker filled with pep, cheer and other such disgustingly sweet things -- has just announced its new Papertronics kits. As the name suggests, these are paper toys with electronics inside them, with the kicker being that you have to construct your Spaceboy (above) or Aliengirl yourself, before activating them via contact with their "landers." Hey, it's not like you can be a gadget geek and not have an appreciation for the fine art of papercrafting. If your inner child still lives, you can check these out at the source link, and we'll just tell everyone you're buying them for your nephew or niece.

  • Brutal Legend gets papercrafted

Our grandmother had this saying, "Handicrafts make for strange bedfellows." In fact, she believed in it so much she once stitched the saying into a pillow she made from the skin of drifters she had lured into her home and killed. True, you don't normally think "drifter murder" and "decorative pillows" as a pairing, so she had made her point. But we tried (and are still trying) to convince her that there are ways of stating her case that are both less illegal and involve less risk of contracting hepatitis C. ... So we guess what we're saying is that our grandmother would probably be way into these Brutal Legend papercrafts.

If your fascination with the characters of the Resident Evil universe extends beyond the confines of each game, then you may like to know that Cubeecraft and Capcom Europe have teamed up to offer some papercraft versions of Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles characters. With little more than a printer, some paper and the ability to fold strategically, you can make miniaturized and highly flammable versions of your favorite characters, perfect for reenacting scenes from the games. Well, unless your favorite character is Steve Burnside. He's nowhere to be found, which may or may not be a really good thing.%Gallery-22769%[Via Cubeecraft]

We've seen our fair share of Wall-E mods over the months, and yes, we've also seen an impressive papercraft creation or two. But frankly, we've never, ever seen a papercraft Wall-E, let alone a papercraft Wall-E that serves a purpose. TotoroYamada took the time to concoct what he describes as his own personal Mail-E, a servo-equipped paper robot that's programed to check his inbox every few seconds and bust a move when a new message arrives. Cuteness overload is in full effect -- just peek the videos after the break if you've any doubts.

Remember how frustrated you were when you tried to build that tiny papercraft Link? Yeah, well this guy made a life-size statue of Link ... out of paper. Paper. Just look at it. It's insanity. Seriously, if someone handed you a pile of card stock and asked you to build insanity, it would turn out like this. Sure, it's awesome and everything but ... damn. If you can feel your grip on reality slipping a little every day, then feel free to download the detailed plans to craft your own right here. (Note: You'll need a special Windows-only viewer to view the plans.) Oh, and be sure to stock up on printer ink. [Via GoNintendo]

You know, we often wonder why we don't have a large, flammable recreation of Wii Sports Resort's Wuhu Island sitting on our desk, but then we remember most of our work is done while being chained to a laptop in some random dungeon in Philadelphia. While we may be starved for sunlight (not to mention just plain starving), seeing things like this piece of papercraft gives us hope. Hope that we can make cheap pieces of art when we're finally so malnourished that we can slip out of our shackles. Finally, your lovingly prepared SNES model is getting some well-heeled new friends to hang out with. Cubeecraft is a website wholly dedicated to the paper-based recreation of cultural icons, and it's prepared a pair of exquisitely detailed clones of the NES and Dreamcast. While some such projects might require patience and finesse, putting together the above templates doesn't even ask for any glue or tape. So what are you waiting for, grab your scissors and run to the links below for full 150dpi printouts -- just be sure to make the time for some imaginary Contra action afterwards.[Via Technabob]Read - NES cutoutRead - DC cutout

Like my grandmother always says, sometimes the best gadgets are the ones you build yourself -- with kits imported from Japan, purchased at places like Fred Flare. Princeton's Paper Speaker kit comes with a pair of 1W stereo speakers, a USB connection, paste, and a paper template for building a retro desktop sound system. Three designs are available -- take your pick from a cabinet record player, a component stereo system, or an old school boom box. Check 'em out below, and then get yours when it becomes available in early July for ¥1,980 (approximately $21). [Via Akihabara]

Now I don't get papercraft myself although I have come across it periodically. Basically it is the art of folding paper, turning 2D images into 3D models. Now this is not new and we've covered it before (check out our papercraft gallery below while you're here) but Blizzard Europe have taken some time out to interview papercrafter and designer Pascal as well as featuring some of his awesome creations. I'm trying (and failing) not to go all fangirl over his papercraft moonkin (Druids FTW, etc., etc.) but it's impressive how intricate these models can be, from a mail box to a dragon. The spotlight also offers some hints on how to get started and while I'm totally useless at any crafty stuff, it makes me want to have a go at one of these beauties.%Gallery-20544%

It's one of the laws of the internet: When a popular game is released, the papercraft is not far behind, whether it's of a luminary like Solid Snake or everyday joes like Gabe and Tycho. Now, Faith of Mirror's Edge fame is getting the wood pulp facial (as no one calls it) courtesy of Robot Martini. As the state has relegated us to only safety scissors, we've never actually put one of these together. But we do like the feeling of superiority we get looking at badasses who've become two-dimensional. Not so tough now, are you, you earthbound carrier pigeon?

Also available are Episode 2 foes Hat Spider, Asylum Patient and Dr. "I see you've been staring at my balls" Wolfington (his balls are not currently available as papercraft). Fun fact: In a display of irony, should you find yourself surrounded by papercraft Fruit Lovers, the use of fruit juice will actually harm them. Gallery: Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 2

  • World of Papercrafting returns with life size Illidan statue

Paper models of our favorite Warcraft characters may not be the newest thing on the internet, but this latest one from the WoW EU forums adds a little twist. Syih of Talnivarr-EU has posted his life size paper Illidan, which received props from not only regular posters, but Vaneras as well.In the full version of the picture, you can see just how tall this thing is standing alongside a chair and a dresser. It's not quite as tall as Illidan would actually be, but that doesn't change the fact that it's huge for a paper sculpture. Also, a truly life-sized Illidan would have a hard time fitting inside of your bedroom, I think. The wings aren't attached to this sculpture yet either, which will be a whole new level of awesome. Unfortunately, Syih says the wings are coming out a little too heavy for just paper to support. There's been some bending and tearing issues.Syih has a few others as well: Thrall, Kael'thas, a tiny Dwarven Rifleman. They're all smaller than the Illidan statue, but all quite awesome. You can either check out Syih's thread on the EU forums, or take a look at our World of Papercraft gallery, which contains both Syih's work and that of previous Papercrafters.%Gallery-20544%
