Blizzard's PAX East announcement is Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, a cross-platform digital collectible card game for PC, Mac, and iPad set in the Warcraft universe. The game is free-to-play, with booster packs of five cards available. Blizzard has a price of around $1 in mind for the packs; Hearthstone will have 300 cards in the initial collection. Hearthstone is scheduled to release this year, first on PC and Mac, with iPad shortly after. The beta is out this summer and can be signed-up for now. The game is playable on PAX East's show floor. Each player's deck is based around a central hero from one of nine Warcraft classes. Players can take on computer opponents or Battle.net friends and other online players. At today's PAX East panel, Blizzard showed how Hearthstone includes twists on familiar mechanics from its Warcraft games, including disenchanting duplicate cards to turn them into arcane dust for use in card crafting. %Gallery-183539%

  • Capy Fine Racing GP is a game on a floppy disk at PAX East

We never believed that in the year 2013 we'd be talking about games found on a floppy disk, but Capybara Games has proven us wrong. The developer is bringing 3.5 inch floppy disks to PAX East housing copies of Capy Fine Racing GP – a new racing game featuring characters from games created by Capy and Double Fine.Capy co-founder Nathan Vella told Edge that both developers teamed up to create the game, which seems like an excellent offering for the two studio sharing booth space in Boston. The game itself is described as an "OutRun-style racer."If you won't be at PAX, the floppy disk will also be included in the 200 retail versions of the Double Fine/Capybara Games Steam collection. Those that get hands on the disks are encouraged to share."It's just something we did for pure fun and loving the idea of doing cool shit with our friends, in the spirit of the Capy Double Fine PAX combo. While it's totally a real game, it's also not at all a real game," Vella said.

Might and Magic is coming back. Not Heroes of Might and Magic or Clash of Heroes, but straight up vanilla Might and Magic. Three days after teasing an announcement, Ubisoft has announced Might and Magic X Legacy (we're claiming dibs on the abbreviation "Might and Magic XL" right now), developed by Limbic Entertainment. In the classic tradition, Legacy is a single-player, first-person RPG with turn-based battles. The story puts you and your party of four characters in the city of Karthal, which "on the verge of secession, is prey to competing factions vying for its control," presumably vying through the placement of monsters everywhere.Brave adventurers who dare to enter PAX East will be able to see Legacy at the event this weekend.

Silly season is upon us folks, and no I'm not talking about NASCAR. I'm talking about gaming conventions that stretch seemingly from Easter to Christmas, and first out of the gate is this weekend's PAX East 2013 shindig in Boston. Massively is sending a trio of reporters (Eliot Lefebvre, Karen Bryan, and Matt Daniel) to bring you all the news that's fit to print about The Elder Scrolls Online, WildStar, Firefall, EVE Online, The Repopulation, and more. We'll also be kidnapping luminaries from SOE and Hi-Rez and getting them drunk enough to tell us their deepest, darkest secrets. We'll be sitting in on a number of industry- and game-specific panels, too. My point is that there's Massively's PAX East coverage, and then there's everyone else's. So if you've got burning questions on the games above or others you might have seen on the convention schedule, post them below and we'll see about wrustling up some answers. Massively's on the ground in Boston during the weekend of March 22-24, bringing you all the best news from PAX East 2013. • World of Keflings dev NinjaBee to debut 'Nutjitsu' at PAX East

Developer NinjaBee (makers of XBLA hits like Cloning Clyde, A Band of Bugs and A World of Keflings) is revealing a brand new game at this weekend's PAX East show, titled Nutjitsu. That title is all we have so far; NinjaBee says it'll be playable at the show (booth #599, if you're going), but doesn't say anything else about what it is. It's kung-fu fighting squirrels, right? Can it be kung-fu fighting squirrels? In addition to the new game, NinjaBee is also showing off A World of Keflings for Wii U and the recently released version for Windows 8. It's also giving away prizes, including a free copy of Kingdom of Keflings for PC to anyone who plays any of the demos, and 1600 Microsoft points to the high scorer on Nutjitsu every day. If you can't be at the show, don't worry, because we will. Stay tuned for coverage this weekend.

We're shipping up to Boston for PAX East 2013, which runs Friday, March 22 to Sunday, March 24, but you may not be so fortunate. Or maybe you just didn't snag tickets in time, or you couldn't find someone to watch your cats this weekend. Whatever the reason you can't come out to PAX East, Twitch has you covered with live streams of main stage panels, concerts and the Omegathon tournament.Check out the PAX channel on Twitch this weekend for live streams such as Storytime with Cliff Bleszinski on Friday, Indie Studios Founded by 38 Studios Alumni on Saturday and You Game Like a Girl: Tales of Trolls and White Knights on Sunday. The full schedule is below. If Twitch shows any footage of the show floor, be on the lookout for your favorite Joystiq staff: We'll be the ones grinning maniacally and/or teetering on the edge of a claustrophobic breakdown.

  • New video explains exactly what WildStar is

    03.20.2013

What is WildStar? A dance sensation that's sweeping the nation? The answer to life, the universe, and everything? An upcoming MMO from Carbine Studios? All right, you in the audience probably already knew that it's the last one on the list, but you probably still have questions about the game. The newest video won't answer all of those questions, but it will give you a full picture of what the game plans to be right from the ground up. It's all here in the trailer: Both factions, all four paths, player-built houses and PvP fortresses, active combat, and an evolving in-game story. But if you're not convinced that the game can pull off everything it promises, you're welcome to swing by PAX East this weekend to get your hands on the game on the show floor. So if you're already heading to the convention, you've got something else to put on your itinerary... and if not, you can just enjoy a characteristically narrated piece on the game.

You, yes you, are cordially invited to attend one of the least exclusive but most festive shindigs at PAX East this weekend. The Elder Scrolls Online team is throwing a party on Saturday evening for any and all who show up (on a first-come, first-served basis, of course) at the Castle Meeting Space in downtown Boston. Starting at 6:00 p.m. EST, the party includes Tamriel-inspired foods, music, contests, and the opportunity to play TESO in person. The event is open to anyone 13 and older, so you don't have to be attending PAX to get an advance peek at one of the hottest upcoming MMOs!

  • Might and Magic X reveal at PAX East teased by Ubisoft

    by

    03.18.2013

The main Might and Magic line looks set to return after a decade in the wilderness. Ubisoft is teasing a Might and Magic website with the above image, with the words "Meet us at PAX East!" beneath it.While the Might and Magic name has seen continued releases through the Heroes of Might and Magic strategy line and Clash of Heroes, the main role-playing series hasn't seen a release since 2002's M&M IX. After consulting our Roman Numerals handbook, we reckon the image heavily points towards M&M X and a reveal at this weekend's PAX East. After original M&M publisher 3DO went bankrupt in 2003, new license holder Ubisoft said M&M X was unlikely to ever happen because of branding choices. However, an unofficial open-source M&M X project emerged last year, and is still in development. While it's never 100 percent safe to assume anything, the most damning evidence of all for M&M X's upcoming announcement is Ubisoft's own tweet, which includes an unfortunately failed attempt to hashtag the game - gotta watch out for those ampersands.

The Indie Megabooth returns to PAX East this year, cramming 62 games into a single booth whose vast expanses you could get lost in. Bring survival gear. Here's how enormous the Indie Megabooth is: in addition to dedicated spaces for games like Toki Tori 2, Ridiculous Fishing, Octodad: Dadliest Catch, Outlast, Guacamelee!, and Delver's Drop, the Megabooth even has a "Minibooth" in it with a rotating lineup of games. The organizers heard you liked shared spaces for indie games, so they put an indie booth in your indie booth so you can play games while you play games.Forgive the ancient meme, but it seemed appropriate. PAX East runs March 22-24 in Boston.
