Nintendo's New 3DS is getting Poke-themed limited editions in Japan to mark the launch of Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby. The red Groudon and blue Kyogre systems are coming to the country's Pokemon Center stores alongside the games on November 21, and both handhelds feature suede faceplates for that extra luxurious feel you've always craved maybe when capturing pocket monsters. If you want in it's 19,000 yen (around $177) a piece, and they don't come with copies of the games. The New 3DS itself launches in Japan on October 11 in both regular and XL models, and its New features include the right-hand analog C-stick, ZL and ZR shoulder buttons, built-in NFC tech, greater battery life, improved CPU and customizable faceplates, suede or otherwise. As for when the New 3DS launches outside of Japan, Nintendo's ruled out bringing it West in this calendar year. But you can nab Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby when the two 3DS remakes launch in North America on November 21 and Europe on November 28. [Image: The Pokemon Company]

Nintendo will offer a demo version of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire prior to the games' launches, according to its official site. The "early visit" to the games' Hoenn region will include "gameplay that you won't experience anywhere else," as well as a familiar Pokemon that is capable of Mega Evolving. Those that play the demo will be able to transfer said creature in addition to reward items to the full version of the game. Nintendo did not specify when the demo would be made available, but did mention that fans will be able to play it as many times as they like (some 3DS demos are limited in the number of times they can be accessed). The demo will also feature "special scenarios that occur if you play every day." Nintendo will reveal instructions on how players can obtain a code in the near future. The Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire remakes will launch November 21 for 3DS. [Image: Nintendo]

Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby are getting their own steelbook bundles in Europe, complete with Kyogre and Groudon figurines respectively. Bundles including the game are coming to GAME and Nintendo's online store in the UK, and will be available for pre-order. The House of Mario Marowak lists the steelbook and figurine separately at £40; we've reached out to confirm if that also includes the game at that price. The Poke-remakes are also scoring some other pre-order goodies in the UK. Pre-orders of the standalone version at GAME get the respective figure chucked in, while early birds at Shopto will get their own early bird, namely a 2D keyring of Torchic. As for the small matter of the game itself, it hits 3DS in North America on November 21, then a week across the pond on November 28. [Image: Nintendo]

Yo Slowbro, we gotta talk. We notice you're taking hits like a champ in the new trailer for Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire where you Mega-evolve into Mega Slowbro. We see you got these super high defense stats, and you bro-down with some of the toughest pokemon out there. We're just wonderin' where this came from, bro. Brotein shakes? Some brototype muscle pill? You know what, it's none of our business, bro. Live and let live. We're just happy to see you get some time in the spotlight, and look forward to some brodacious battles with you on November 21. Until then, stay chill bro. [Image: The Pokemon Company]

  • A wild Mega Audino appears in Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire remakes

The latest Pokemon to receive the Mega Evolution treatment is Audino, a 'mon with such precise hearing that it can diagnose illness simply by listening to a patient's body. As a result of this phenomenal ability, the Pokemon Centers of the Unova region keep Audino at hand to assist Nurse Joy. The 'mon apparently took a liking to its unforeseen medical profession as the Mega Evolved Audino almost looks like a tiny, stylized doctor, complete with white lab coat and stethoscope. Though the Pokemon Company is only now debuting Mega Audino, Pokemon fan site Serebii reported on the Mega Evolution two days ago when both Mega Audino and Mega Slowbro accidentally appeared on the official Korean Pokemon website. The Pokemon Company has yet to officially acknowledge the existence of Mega Slowbro, and offered no comment to our inquiries. Despite this, the Korean leak correctly predicted every aspect of Mega Audino, leading us to expect a Mega Slowbro announcement shortly. Mega Audino will make its video game debut in the upcoming Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire 3DS games which are scheduled to launch on November 2. You'll find a trailer highlighting the new Mega Evolution below the break. [Image: Nintendo]

  • Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire players get free Shiny Metagross, new Megas

Pokemon fans planning to pick up a copy of Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire when it hits shelves on November 21 will be in for a mega, shiny (but also potentially gross) treat: For a limited time via an in-game internet character distribution, players can receive a Shiny Beldum holding a Mega Stone. Keep it fed and watered, and it just might grow up to be a strong and healthy Shiny Mega Metagross. Metagross won't be the only Pokemon to go Super Saiyan Mega, though. Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have also revealed new Mega forms for Altaria, Salamence and Lopunny as well. If you're less about Mega battles and more about mega cuteness, you can instead opt to participate in Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire's Pokemon Contest Spectacular, where pokemon are judged on their Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Cleverness or Toughness. The Spectacular is also where players will receive Cosplay Pikachu, who you may remember dressing up as a lovely southern belle. Cosplay Pikachus can use moves normally not available to everyone's favorite yellow mouse, such as Pikachu Rock Star being able to use the Steel-type move Meteor Smash. An attached press release has notes on Pikachu Pop Star, Pikachu, Ph.D., Pikachu Belle and Pikachu Libre. Lastly, Horde Encounters will make an appearance in Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire as well, though this time they won't be limited to wild pokemon; trainers will also sometimes appear in groups, giving battle-hardened trainers even more XP to soak up. In Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, due out on November 21, players will meet a new Mega-evolved Pokemon, Mega Metagross, in the final battle before becoming the Pokemon League Champion. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire also marks a return to the Hoenn Region, where trainers must defeat eight gym leaders and the Elite Four. Yeah, whatever - most importantly, players will be able to dress up Pikachu in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire with the Cosplay Pikachu feature. Trainers can also feed, pet and play with their Pokemon in the Pokemon-Amie mode, and those dressed-up Pikachu can snack on Poke Puffs in Pokemon-Amie. Check out the adorableness in the new video (above) and images (below) from Nintendo. "Meet Pikachu Rock Star, Pikachu Belle, Pikachu Pop Star, Pikachu Ph.D., and Pikachu Libre! They seem to have a connection to a kind of Contest Hall," Nintendo says in a press release. Pikachu Belle! More information about Cosplay Pikachu is due in August. [Images: Nintendo]

Oh no. Oh no. No no no no no. Japanese magazine CoroCoro, you did not just reveal that Pikachu - and potentially other pokemon - will be able to wear various ensembles in the upcoming Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire. And Serebii, you did not take scans of that magazine and post them for all to see. Sure, we're not sure how this will factor into the eventual gameplay, but it's still a pokemon wearing a bonnet - isn't that enough? Nintendo, you must stop this. For the sake of productivity across the global work force, we beg of you: don't let us dress our pokemon in adorable outfits. • Become secret pals by visiting bases in Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire remakes

Nintendo's Game Boy Advance entries in the Pokemon series, Ruby and Sapphire, marked the introduction of "secret bases," in which players would annex a space of the game's worlds, decorating them as they saw fit. Secret bases are returning in the remakes of the games, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, with a modern touch. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire players will not only have the ability to create and customize their own secret base in the games, but take it a step further by sharing their creations using the 3DS' StreetPass and QR Code creation functions. Secret bases can include mazes and traps as well as NPC visitors with Pokemon battle rules, effectively turning the customized bases into competitive Pokemon gyms of sorts. Upon visiting other bases, players will also have the opportunity to invite others to their own base as "secret pals," which instantly makes the whole thing weird for everyone involved.
