So you've been moaning for an online store for your PSP, maybe not exactly the same as the PS3's store, but something to let you grab some games, trailers, or whatever without forking out the big bucks for the handheld's big brother. You're not in luck, we're afraid. Sony representatives claim they're working on the store which will feature "short-form" games, but maybe not music or movies. However, they wouldn't put a release date down for the store. Why?Digital Rights Management concerns. Sony doesn't want their movies to be pirated and with the awesome homebrews and custom firmwares floating around on the PSP, it's an almost impossible task. This isn't to say that a store for the PSP isn't coming, they just need to work all this stuff out first. We'd be happy with a store even if they don't have movies put up there immediately. Then again, we can't assume movies are their only pirating concerns. Oh well, we'll just keep waiting until Sony gives us a firm release date![via N4G]

Literally dozens of loyal Sony Connect users were sent into mourning yesterday by a PaidContent.org story announcing the proprietary music and video download service will be shut down in the coming months. The staff of 80 behind the online store will be transferred over to the PlayStation side of the company, a rather convenient move considering Sony is preparing to launch a new PSP Store later this year.We know what you're thinking, but don't worry, the eBook division of the service will stay up for those of you who prefer reading books on an LCD screen.[Via PSPFanboy]

SCEA president Jack Tretton has reiterated Sony's intent to launch some semblance of a 'PSP Store,' but his statements provide little assurance that the project is a priority. "I think the advent of a long awaited and quite frankly long overdue ability to deliver a downloadable service for the PSP will help us out a great deal," Tretton said during an appearance at Sony Gamers' Day. "Hopefully we'll have it out there by the fall."Tretton gave no further insight into the proposed venture, leaving us to wonder if he was merely referring to SOE's Station Launcher, a forthcoming service that will offer downloads of PSP-formatted movies directly to the handheld device (via PC). Of course, there would be obvious benefits to launching a portable counterpart of PS3's PlayStation Store, complete with PS1 games, demos, and trailers -- and, dare we suggest, full e-Distribution titles. All with just the flick of a WLAN switch. If only...[Via PSP Fanboy]
