PS3 fans love exclusives. But not when these exclusives are problems and glitches. Many PS3 owners are reporting issues with online play in Ubisoft's recent Rainbow Six Vegas 2 release. ScaR88 says "nobody can connect to online games." Another tipster, Nick says "you are lucky if you connect in the first place let alone stay connected for the duration of the match." Ryan C. says "I constantly have to reboot my PS3 due to freezing."These tips are just a few that echo the sentiments found on Ubisoft boards. It seems as though the publisher is keeping quiet about the problem, refusing to directly address the hundreds of complaints its receiving. "What's even worse is they refuse to refund my money," one frustrated gamer noted. We'll keep you updated with any developments.[Via Joystiq]

  • PS3 Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 plagued with online snafus

According to their website, much of Ubisoft's technical support staff has taken this weekend off in observation of Good Friday and Easter. That's all well and good -- but perhaps, when they aren't draining Cadbury eggs or enjoying fine roasted hams, just one of them could take the time to Google their latest release, Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, and discover that a good portion of the console gaming world is ready to swear off all things Clancy. Our tip box has exploded with complaints from owners of the PS3 version of the game -- apparently, a majority of those who try to play online either can't connect or have to suffer staggering amounts of lag. We'd expect a bandwidth epidemic such as this to be patched post-haste -- we guess Ubisoft didn't anticipate we'd actually want to play their game on the first weekend of Eastertide. What, did they think those terrorists would hunt themselves?

With the recent release of Rainbow Six Vegas 2, many gamers are discovering the wonders of the game's multiplayer. Far fewer gamers were able to score the Best Buy Gun Code that was on the sticker of the game's box at Best Buy stores. The sticker has a code on it (a button code, not a marketplace one) that unlocks a free gun in the game. The instructions for that code are as follows: Enter the follow button commands at the Main Menu of Rainbow Six Vegas 2: (Hold RB) Down, Down, Up, Up, X, B, X, B, Y, Up, Up, Y.The second RSV2 freebie we got wind of was a map brought to us by Comcast. This is again unlockable from within the game and visiting the marketplace is not required. To access the Comcast Bonus Maps, select Extras from the game's main menu. then select "Comcast Gift" and enter the code "Comcast Faster" when prompted to do so, and you should have access a map called "Comcast Event" [Via Joystiq & HushedCasket]

  • RSV2's Private First Class achievement problem

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 players who played the original Rainbow Six Vegas have run into an achievement unlocking wall of annoyance. Simply put, the Private First Class achievement is broken. You see, many gamers who fire up RSV2 and have previously played RSV are experiencing a problem where they cannot unlock the Private First Class achievement. The reason being that their initial rank is bumped up higher than private first class, because of RSV2 using RSV game saves to set the player's rank. So, upon entering multiplayer, the players' rank is greater than private first class and the achievement refuses to unlock. Teh lame! Some have found a way to work around this unlocking annoyance, but it's time consuming, a hassle and is, well ... also annoying. Ubisoft better release a title update quick and get RSV2 players their 10GS achievement. You do not want to mess with Vegas players Ubi ... you just don't.[Thanks,eXciter1]

Did you forget? Sunday is Easter, which means it's all about the eggs, chocolate, and hopefully a nice dinner with your family. But of course you can only handle your family for so long, so it's time once again to ask our weeky query: What aRe yoU Playing this weekend in the world of MMOs?Massively's Kyle Horner is still playing Lord of the Rings Online, but says that most of his time will be spent "leveling up" in the MMO-esque new shooter, Rainbox Six Vegas 2 (I'd be playing the same thing, except that my preordered copy hasn't shown up in the mail yet, and it's driving me nuts). And our co-lead, Krystalle Voecks, says that she's back in EVE Online, with a brand new Retriever to do some big time mining for her. She's also been listening to The Drone Bay, and may start up a little pirating, but for now, she says, it's "lots and lots of mining."So what are you up to in the world of MMOs this weekend? What were you playing? A recent article asked the question, "Are online shooters turning into MMOs?" That's a good question. Lets go over the basics and see if they fit into the mold. Ever since Call of Duty 4 came out, it's become an addictive online experience for many people. Is it because of the tight controls, excellent visual/audio design and enormous variety of online modes? Perhaps, but we're fairly certain that many players are finding themselves addicted to what we here at Massively refer to as, "The Desire to Ding"

It seems Tom Clancy's latest visit to Las Vegas has yielded strikingly similar results to his 2006 outing: Lots of jumping out of helicopters and being shot at by ambidextrous bandits. Some people like that sort of thing, however, and reviews of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 suggest that Ubisoft's second trip down the strip is just for them. This is your last chance too -- the next Vegas game is that one starring Kevin Pereira. Eurogamer (70/100): "Overall, Vegas 2 feels like an incremental expansion, despite the success of the character-creation feature. The annoying thing is that with a bit more investment these quickfire sequels would feel like true follow-ups, which would go a long way with those of us who've been following the series for the past ten years. As it is, we'll still go to Vegas, but we'll be grumpy on the way home." IGN (84/100): "The gameplay in Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is awesome; it just isn't as awesome as it was 18 months ago. The main complaint that most gamers are sure to have with RSV2 is that it's simply too similar to the game that we played late in 2006." Videogamer.com (80/100): "While Rainbow Six Vegas 2 feels more like an add-on than a proper sequel, that shouldn't stop you picking Ubisoft's latest up. The gun-play is excellent, the production values are top notch and the multiplayer game modes will keep you coming back months down the line."

While most of the media focuses on whether or not games can turn innocent children into mindless killing machines, there is a much more dangerous psychosis that affects fully grown men. It's the kind of thing that makes a man stalk the toy aisle every time he goes shopping with his significant other, the sort of thing that compels him to buy the newest Nerf toy. Case in point: the latest video from Gamerscore Blog. It seems the boys in Redmond (we don't see what's her name anywhere) have become a little too fond of Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Don't take our word for it though. Watch the video -- handily embedded after the break -- and judge for yourself.

Congratulations, you did it! Why are we heaping our praise upon you for no good reason? Well, friend, you just joined Comcast's Elite Rainbow Six Bravo team. We don't know how you got the honor or why, but we know all you have to do is click this link to be automatically on the crew. For your trouble, you'll get the pride of knowing you're part of something bigger than yourself ... oh, and a free Rainbow Six Vegas 2 map.The new map is called "Comcast Event" which is uncomfortably close to (read: is) super-blatant in-game advertising. But also, it's free, which makes it pretty tough to take a moral stand against. Enjoy.

It's sort of a lonely week for new releases. It's not that we aren't seeing anything worthwhile, though. Nope, this week we have the much awaited sequel to Rainbow Six Vegas, sagely titled Rainbow Six Vegas 2 to in order to nullify any confusion. Remember, this is the last time you'll be getting your 6 on in Vegas, so get it while the gettin's good (alternately, you could wait until it goes down in price and get it while the gettin's better). Also releasing this week is the latest curiosity from Sega, Sega Superstars Tennis. Alas, it seems Sega has more trouble wedging its beloved characters into the sports genre than Nintendo does, as the game has thus far received only fair to middling reviews.[Via Joystiq]

Tomorrow, Mr. Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 will be available at shipping to retailers in the United States and those same retailers are trying their darnedest to lure you into their stores with special offers. So, we thought to ourselves. Self, we should highlight some of this week's best RSV2 deals. So, here we go.Kicking off our RSV2 deal searching fun, we have Best Buy who is offering the game for the standard $59 price tag, but is including a special unlock code for an assault rifle. Yeah, we agree ... a lukewarm deal at best. But we trudge along and see that Circuit City is offering RSV2 for $59 as well, but is throwing in a pair of red fuzzy dice and a gamer's energy kit. A kit that comes complete with beef jerky, an energy drink, some energy gum and a few other goodies. A little quirky, but we approve. Next up is Target who is also selling the game for $59, but is including a $10 gift card as well. And finally, if you have a Fry's electronics store nearby, you can grab RSV2 for the loss-leader price of $39. Analyze all the RSV2 offers, make your purchase this Tuesday week and fully embrace retailer competition.[Thanks L1B3RATION and SeNiLe911]

We admit it. Our Rainbow Six Vegas 2 coverage has been lacking a bit, so when we came across a brand new Thermal Scanning video today we felt obligated to share. So, embedded above is the latest video, showcasing some hot RSV2 thermal scanning, shooting, covering, dodging and dancing (all minus the dancing). In all honesty though, team Ubisoft looks to have polished and built upon Rainbow Six Vegas adding a few new bells and whistles that makes Vegas 2 shine. But if a few additions and tweaks doesn't constitute a full fledged sequel in your mind, well then good sir, RSV2 may not be your bag. To us, it's a solid enough looking shooter and we may just have to jump in next Friday to pew, pew, pew some baddies.

Ubisoft seems to be pairing up with everyone these days to promote the upcoming 10th Anniversary title in the Rainbow Six franchise, Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Ubisoft and the Guinness World Records have teamed up to bring the gaming world the first official marathon session of multiplayer gaming, where a few gamers will get to play Rainbow Six Vegas 2 on Xbox 360 for a solid 24-hour stretch.Taking part in the attempt will be the UK Frag Dolls (which are sponsored by Ubisoft): Jam, Kitt and Sarin. The attempt will take place in the UK from the March 21 - 24 where all 1,500 tickets to join in the fun live have already sold out. If the dolls are able to compete for a straight 24-hour session of gaming Guinness World Records will induct the event, Ubisoft and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 into the 2009 edition of the world-famous record catalog.Gamers connected are invited to join in the fraggin' fun over Xbox Live when the game launches later this month.

When we first threw Rainbow Six Vegas into our consoles we thought Ubisoft accidentally pressed Ghost Recon with the wrong label because the game began during a raid of an enemy stronghold in Mexico. A few minutes later we realized that it was all apart of the story Ubi and Tom Clancy had magicked up for us to introduce Sin City. With that in mind we're glad that the folks at Inside Gamer sent in a video of the first ten minutes of gameplay from Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and showed us that the experience begins in France. Now we won't have to worry that Ubisoft accidentally shot us over a copy of Rush Hour 3. Seriously, no one needs to relive that experience.[Thanks, Jeff]

The good folks at Xbox360Achievements.org posted the detailed achievement list for the upcoming Ubi Soft first-person tactical shooter, Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Weighing mostly on multiplayer points the list ranges from utterly simple, "Create your own custom camouflage," to ridiculously hard, "Lead your team to Victory 20 times in Team Leader with at least 6 players present.." OK, that isn't hard to do at all actually but it's funny how achievements need to be so detailed rendering achievement boosting impossible. Who would do that anyway? Sorry, gotta go our copy of Avatar: The Last Airbender just showed up and we hear the points are hella easy.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Today Major League Gaming (MLG), the professional videogame league, announced that it would be collaborating with Ubisoft on the development of the upcoming Rainbow Six Vegas 2. R6V2, which marks the 10th Anniversary of the Rainbow Six franchise, features an "MLG Map" which depicts an MLG event at the Las Vegas Convention Center. MLG and Ubi Soft worked closely on the development of the map which was designed with competitive gaming in mind, wonder why that is.With news of the new map comes word that MLG will include Rainbow Six Vegas 2 in its 2008 Pro Circuit, including a special release event for the game in April. The MLG Pro Circuit 2008 kicks off on April 11 and will be covered by ESPN.com. Hopefully that means we'll be able to catch reruns of the event on ESPN 8: The Ocho.%Gallery-16873%

We were able to play a demo of Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 for a bit while at the Ubisoft booth, and the time we spent with it felt good, and for that time it did feel like an improvement on the first game. The multiplayer mode that was available for us to play pitted the players at the four stations against a force of computer controlled terrorists several times the size of our team. Plus, there was an overall time limit as well as long and limited respawn times, all of which assured that you needed to be fast with your kills, but also careful. With the camera seamlessly transitioning between first and third person, the game never felt clunky or hard to aim, and even though the "blind fire" (ability to stick out your gun out from behind cover and fire) was used by way to many people way to often, the few games we managed to play tended to be fun, with the AI being relatively smart (in other words they weren't overly dumb).

One of our favorite things about Rainbow Six: Vegas was the multitude of weapons a player could choose from while outfitting their digital soldier. With varying levels of kickback, damage, ammo capacity, and accuracy, each weapon felt like a unique character, and diehard followings sprung up behind many of the game's realistic firearms. The above trailer shows a few new "characters" we'll be introduced to in Rainbow Six: Vegas 2; like Mr. Shoots Through Walls, SMG Jr., and a sniper rifle that's bigger than the Juno I satellite launcher. We'll get to meet the whole gang (as will a number of unlucky terrorists) when the game lands in our anticipatory hands come mid-March.

Four card stud up river. Is that a Poker term? Okay, we're not the best poker players in the world but we can turn a mean card in Poker Smash for XBLA. Thankfully, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 doesn't require an in depth knowledge of the sport and works fine as long as you know what weapons to use and with this nifty weapons trailer Ubi Soft has put the knowledge in your hands. Wait, poker's a sport? It was gambling like two weeks ago. Well at least when people ask why we share the same Toyota Corolla to the X3F Towers everyday we can say it's because we're terrible athletes.

The second Developer Diary for the last entry in the Rainbow Six Vegas sub-series released today. This one addresses the topics of Multi-Player and Co-op, dropping nuggets such as drop-in-drop-out co-op and a story explanation for the Co-op players a la Halo 3 (1P is the Master Chief/Bishop, 2P is the Arbiter/Knight). The main of the interview is a voiceover from the Lead Multi-Player Designer, Jason Cambiotti, and he goes over the bullet points for us. He mentions the PEC system of character creation, which was talked about in a previous Dev Diary, and will be similar class-wise to the COD4 system. This video also shows off Vegas' new competitive multilayer modes: Demolition, which is similar to Assault and Team Leader which is similar to VIP. The rest is about revisions to the Territories-like Total Conquest mode, and the Matchmaking system which will (supposedly) be improved, with games easier to create, find, and join. The first game was well received, so hopefully Ubisoft will be able to build on the success of the first game and shoot for the top of the Xbox Live most-played charts.
