Riot Games adds to its world of virtual influencers who promote 'League of Legends'
“Seraphine” first appeared on social media in late June, posting selfies to Instagram and tweeting about her desire to “share music and hopefully connect with people.” For another, she’s dropped League of Legends easter eggs in her posts that have sparked rumors about her association with it. Now, Riot Games has confirmed that she’s a “virtual influencer,” not unlike the other virtual bands created by the company: True Damage and K/DA.
Virtual 'League of Legends' band K/DA returns with The Baddest
K/DA, a four-person group comprised of Ahri, Akali, Evelynn and Kai’Sa — champions from the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game League of Legends — has released a new track today called “The Baddest.” It’s the band’s first release since “POP/STARS,” a chart-topping single that debuted in 2018 and currently has over 360 million views on YouTube. The new track will be included on a currently-untitled EP that will be released under League developer Riot Games’ own music label later this year.
Spotify’s first esports partnership includes a ‘League of Legends’ podcast
Spotify has taken another step to diversify its offerings by entering its first-ever esports partnership with Riot Games. The music streaming giant has become Riot’s exclusive global audio service provider for League of Legends, and that means it’s planning to launch a bunch of new LoL-related content for its users. In addition, Spotify is also creating an official LoL hub populated with new gaming music, podcasts and playlists, including the “Official League of Legends” and the “This Is League of Legends” playlists.

Riot Games gives its employees a week off to recharge
Riot Games will largely be inactive on the week of August 10th: In an announcement posted on its website, it said the company is taking that week off to “disconnect, recharge and reboot.” The developer released Valorant, a first-person shooter and its first game that’s not set in the League of Legends universe, a few months ago. Riot admits in its post that “tending to so many new games is a delicate balance,” especially with the added stress of having to work from home — making it hard for employees to separate “work” and “life” — due to COVID—19.
Valorant's Act II update adds a new battle pass and deathmatches
Riot Games has revealed what Valorant players can expect in Act II — the free-to-player shooter’s take on seasons — when it drops tomorrow (August 4th). The biggest addition is a new battle pass that gives owners a bunch of new cosmetics to unlock, including weapon skins and keychain-style ‘gun buddies,’ sprays, player titles and ‘player card’ artwork, and Radianite Points, a currency that can be spent on individual weapons to access even flashier skins and visual effects. Just like the previous battle pass, which launched on June 2nd with the game’s general release, it will cost 1,000 Valorant Points, a premium currency that can be bought for $9.99.

One of the biggest esports leagues in Europe has quickly reversed its decision to enter a sponsorship agreement with Neom, a divisive smart city project in Saudi Arabia, following widespread backlash from its own commentators and fans. Riot Games, the company behind League of Legends and the owner of the professional LEC championship in Europe, confirmed the decision in a blog post. “After further reflection, while we remain steadfastly committed to all of our players and fans worldwide including those living in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, the LEC has ended its partnership with Neom, effective immediately,” Alberto Guerrero, Riot Games’ Director of Esports for the EMEA region said.
