'To Live and Die in LA' shows how much Google knows about you
In episode five, season one of the podcast Serial, Sarah Koenig navigates the strip malls and parks of Baltimore, attempting to fulfill a challenge set down by Adnan Syed -- the convicted murderer whose case she's investigating. Over a prison phone, Syed tells Koenig the state's timeline of the murder is impossible, so she gathers reams of call logs and cell tower records, and pieces together the route he supposedly took the night he killed his girlfriend in 1999. Memories from witnesses have changed over the years, but the data points on the cell tower map tell the same story every time.

After Math: This is a witch hunt
It was a dangerous week for some of the biggest names in technology as they they were forced to face off against these new things called "consequences" which have come about due to their ongoing "actions." It's all so very unfair. Ashley Madison is still super duper sorry about the whole exposing of America's least competent infidelitors thing, Reddit is saying "sayonara" to bitcoin (but not its resident racists), and the government of Ecuador went and changed up the Wi-Fi password on poor Julian Assange. But hey, at least Zuck won't be out of a job anytime soon. Numbers, because how else will we know whether she'll sink or float?
‘Serial’ podcast subject Adnan Syed is granted a retrial
When last we heard about Adnan Syed, subject of the breakout hit podcast Serial's first season, a judge ruled he should be given a new trial based on his previous attorney's failings. Today, Maryland's court of special appeals has affirmed it will grant him one.
Marvel is making a scripted 'Wolverine' podcast for Stitcher
Marvel is taking Logan to the internet. The comics publisher has entered a partnership with Stitcher to produce a premium podcast starring the razor-clawed mutant called Wolverine: The Long Night. Weapon X will be voiced by Richard Armitage, who has lent his voice to Netflix's Castlevania series as Trevor Belmont. Of course, he was also Thorin Oakenshield in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy. Needless to say, his geek cred stacks up. As for the rest of the production, TechCrunch notes that the 10-episode season finds Wolverine hounded by investigators tracking a serial killer, and that it will debut next spring.

'Serial' team's seven-episode podcast is ready for binging
When the Serial team announced their new spinoff podcast called S-Town, they promised a murder investigation in rural Alabama. While that's what host Brian Reed went there to cover, somewhere along the way it turned into a treasure hunt for buried gold. Reed also ended up unraveling the mysteries of the person who called the team to his neck of the woods to investigate a wealthy man who was reportedly bragging about getting away with murder. The good news is that you won't have to wait weeks to find out how the story ends. Reed and the team have given S-Town (or Shittown as the podcast revealed) the Netflix treatment -- all seven episodes are now online and ready for binging.
'Serial' team returns with a new true crime podcast
When it debuted in 2014, Serial was a breakout hit for podcasting and an interesting case of the media effecting social justice. The show's team of This American Life alumni even won a Peabody award for their reporting on the murder of Maryland teen Hae Min Lee in 1999, and a second season tackled the national scandal over alleged US Army deserter Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. While we're still anxiously awaiting news about a possible Season 3, Serial co-creator Julie Snyder and This American Life host Brian Reed will return with a binge-friendly new true crime spinoff called S-Town.

Serial adds new episodes as the season 1 case continues
Still wondering what happened to Adnan Syed after the first season of Serial wrapped? Well, we're about to get an update. Syed is back in court this week as his lawyers present new evidence in an attempt to get his conviction overturned. To keep us informed on the latest happenings, host Sarah Koenig and producer Dana Chivvis are set to discuss this week's proceedings in three new episodes. The first update is already posted as the Syed's first appearance was yesterday.
'Serial' slows down its release schedule
Broadcast TV may be tied to a rigid schedule of weekly releases, but services like Netflix have shown that the internet has no such restriction. It's a fact that the creators of Serial are now taking advantage of after announcing that new episodes of season two will now be aired on a fortnightly, not weekly basis. Rather than out of a capricious desire to keep you in suspense, the move is due to the team suddenly being given access to new material. In a report by the New York Times, the show's executive producer reveals that the first few episodes have "opened up more avenues of reporting."
The second season of 'Serial' is here
Serial began life as an understated NPR show about an obscure murder case and quickly became the hottest podcast in the world. After almost a year of silence, Sarah Koenig is back with a brand-new run of episodes. This time around, the show will focus on the abduction of soldier Bowe Bergdahl in 2009 and his subsequent return as part of a prisoner exchange. At the time of publication, the sheer volume of demand for the first episode -- DUSTWUN -- has forced the Serial website to fall over. If, however, you're a Pandora subscriber you should be able to access it there thanks to an exclusive deal that was signed back in November.
Serial season 2 will stream on Pandora 'exclusively'
Pandora will be the "exclusive streaming partner" for Serial season 2, which will reportedly focus on the disappearance of former prisoner of war Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the music streaming site announced today. Never mind that many podcasting apps allow you to stream shows without subscribing to them. This deal won't affect Serial's distribution in any other way -- you'll still be able to find it on iTunes or subscribe in your current podcasting app. While it might seem like a pretty weak exclusive, the deal will likely open up Serial to a whole new audience who probably aren't following podcast trends. The first season of the podcast will debut on Pandora on November 24. Given that discovery is one of the bigger issues for most podcasts, this arrangement with Pandora makes sense, even if it's not something most Serial fans will care about.
