Steam's free-to-play category is particularly ripe for the picking: DC Universe Online's The Last Laugh DLC is currently 50% off (for $4.99 US), and Lord of the Rings Online's Steely Dawn Starter Pack is 50% (for $9.99 US). On top of that, starter packs for virtually every F2P MMO under the sun are on sale as well. Tribes Ascend's raider and starter packs are 70% off, bringing them down to $4.49 and $5.99 US, respectively. If you're more the shooty type, Blacklight Retribution starter packs are 50% off for $9.99. If you're craving a more action-flavored fix, Rusty Hearts and Continent of the Ninth Seal starter packs are available for $4.99 US and $20.99 US, respectively. To browse all of the delicious sales (which include even more games such as Star Trek Online, Fallen Earth, and then some), just head on over to Steam's store page, or alternatively just boot up Steam and say a little prayer for your bank account.

Steam's Autumn sale is dated for November 21-27, while the oft-bargainous holiday sale snowballs across December 20 to January 4. The dates were revealed by Tamás Bakó, CEO of Artery Studios, who says Valve contacted him about putting Secrets of the Magic Crystals in the upcoming Steam sales. We've also had the dates confirmed to us by an indie developer, who received them in an email direct from Valve.Last year Steam's Autumn sale spanned November 23-27, while the wintertime sale also kicked off on December 20 before retiring at the turn of 2012.[Image source: Life as a Human]

The Steam signal burns in the night sky and Batman answers the call, probably because he isn't wearing his glasses and the clouds make the Steam logo look like a diagonal bat if he squints. Batman: Arkham City is half off ($15) and Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY Edition is 66 percent off ($7) this weekend on Steam, sale ending Monday, May 7. You'd think Bruce would have the money to get Lasik, wouldn't you?

    01.01.2012

The final day of the Steam Holiday Sale has embraced us, our families and the sad pile of change left in our gift funds. Today is "Encore Day," where Steam offers the biggest deals of the entire sale one more time, including Skyrim at 33 percent off, Bastion at 66 percent off, Batman: Arkham City at 50 percent off, and tons more. This is really a very clever strategy. Face it -- you've been haunted by that one game you resisted buying over the past week; that one time you said, "No, Steam, this is my money!" has been burned into your psyche as you imagine the joy you could have had at a reasonable price during these cold winter months. And now it's back. You have a second chance to own that game. Go. Go, and be at peace with your Steam Sale. You are forgiven.

Star Trek Online for $3.75? Make it so, Steam! That's right, Cryptic's sci-fi MMO is on sale on Steam today for a paltry three bucks and change, making it the perfect time for anyone who has considered taking the helm of a starship to do just that. Not only is the game dirt-cheap, but it's also the Star Trek Online Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes a variety of exclusive goodies for aspiring spacefarers. Buyers will receive a set of uniforms from the original Star Trek series, two unique emotes that should be familiar to any fan of the series (the Klingon blood wine toast and the infamous "KHAAAN!"), the exclusive NX ship registry prefix, and the Automated Defense Battery ship item, which "grants any ship a passive 360 arc attack power with a short range." So if you're interested, you can head on over to the Steam store for the sale. But act quickly -- the deal ends tomorrow! [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

  • Global Agenda rolls out the next phase of Sandstorm to the test servers

To call the huge 1.3 patch to Global Agenda ambitious would almost be an understatement, considering how much of the game's basic structure was rewritten. It was so ambitious, in fact, that there were several features that wound up being slightly delayed from the initial release. And while the focus of late has been on the game's shift in subscription model (namely to the complete absence of one), several of the remaining features have just been deployed to the game's test servers in time for the holiday weekend. One of the bigger additions is the persistent PvE zone being added, the Sonoran Desert, aimed at players between level 5 and 15. On top of that, the team is adding in the option to Salvage unwanted equipment for parts, a persistent defense raid for players past level 30, and the addition of consumable items. While the holiday weekend is set to be the first testing weekend of several, it's the ideal time to get a feel for the next major addition to the game. Global Agenda players are encouraged to check the changes out, and new players would be well-served to remember that the game is on sale right through July 4th on Steam.

Friday's news of the Perils of Summer sale had some great deals, but it looks like Steam isn't done with MMO sales quite yet. The powers-that-be at Steam surprised players today with news of a sale on EVE Online. Not just any sale, however; EVE Online: Tyrannis is priced at 90% off. Customers taking advantage of the sale will pay $1.99 for the full game and 30 days of free gameplay. If you want in on this, you'll need to hurry, because this is one of Steam's "today only" sales, and you've got less than 24 hours to take advantage. Check out the sale page for EVE Online to purchase, and if you're not an MMO-only gamer, you may want to take a peek at all of their today-only sales.

Play it safe. Stay inside. Save big. So sayeth Steam during their Perils of Summer sale. While we assume the exhortations to stay inside and avoid the big yellow thing in the sky is a joke, there's no denying that there are some great prices to be had on MMOs. The sale is on now and runs through July 4th, and offers range from 33% to 66% off of standard prices. 13 MMOs are up for grabs, including Champions Online for $6.79, the Guild Wars Trilogy for $26.79, and the suddenly subscription-free Global Agenda for $26.79. Two editions each of both City of Heroes and Star Trek Online are also on sale, as well as several others. Check out Steam for the full list.
