Four years after Valve released its oddball Steam Controller, it's not making any more. The controller is on sale today for $5 -- that's 90 percent off its list price of $49.99 -- and a note in the Steam Store warns that there's a limited quantity remaining. Once those controllers are gone, Valve doesn't plan to make more, The Verge reports.

The standalone version of Arma II zombie survival mod DayZ, which stealthily went live via Steam's early access program earlier this week, has generated $5.1 million in its first 24 hours of availability. According to Bohemia Interactive's Maruk Spanel, DayZ moved 172,500 copies on launch day and 142,403 players were online at the time of his last update. Creator Dean Hall has been celebrating the successful launch with regular tweets on the game's sales and performance, but he took a moment to remind possible buyers that this version of DayZ is still very much a work in progress: Please do not just buy the game because you heard it was cool. Many streamers are now streaming. Visit this and view the (many) bugs first. Early access to DayZ will run you $29.99.

DayZ's "true blue" alpha launched on the Steam store today for $29.99. The release is part of Steam's early access program with a caveat posted that players should not purchase it unless they're OK with "serious issues and possible interruptions of game functioning." The launch was accompanied by a trailer which has since been pulled from the Steam store due to its graphic nature. Lead developer Dean Hall bemoaned the move on Twitter: "At the last minute, despite being told of the contents of my trailer for DayZ, Steam pulled my trailer due to censorship." The video is still on YouTube if you're curious, although be aware that it is NSFW and has a scene of a suicide.

Steam's Android app has thrown up a selection of new categories that point to the possibility of productivity apps and other types of non-gaming software being sold in the near-future. Ranging from photo editing to accounting, there's ten categories that aren't available on the desktop version. It would open up yet another branch for Valve, which already offers books and movies through its online store, but until these categories get fleshed-out -- they're currently empty -- we're left guessing as to what it's likely to offer.

Star Trek Online for $3.75? Make it so, Steam! That's right, Cryptic's sci-fi MMO is on sale on Steam today for a paltry three bucks and change, making it the perfect time for anyone who has considered taking the helm of a starship to do just that. Not only is the game dirt-cheap, but it's also the Star Trek Online Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes a variety of exclusive goodies for aspiring spacefarers. Buyers will receive a set of uniforms from the original Star Trek series, two unique emotes that should be familiar to any fan of the series (the Klingon blood wine toast and the infamous "KHAAAN!"), the exclusive NX ship registry prefix, and the Automated Defense Battery ship item, which "grants any ship a passive 360 arc attack power with a short range." So if you're interested, you can head on over to the Steam store for the sale. But act quickly -- the deal ends tomorrow! [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]
