click to see this bad boy in hi-res Mad Catz has announced a new line of controllers and accessories designed especially with Street Fighter fans in mind. First up, the company has the FightPad, which features an arcade style six button layout and (blessedly) a floating eight-way D-pad. For more serious fighting fanatics, there is the FightStick an arcade style joystick with an eight button layout. For really serious fighting fans, there's the FightStick Tournament, which features authentic Sanwa parts. In fact, it uses the same parts found in actual Street Fighter IV arcade cabinets. As if that weren't enough, the design of the FightStick Tournament is being overseen by SFIV producer Yoshinori Ono himself. Also on offer will be a Street Fighter IV faceplate, wall scroll, and (ahem) Console Skinz. All the Street Fighter IV Mad Catz products are scheduled to ship alongside the release of the game in February. No prices have been announced yet, which means we can still dream that the FightStick Tournament will be offered for the low, low price of free. Find a gallery of the new controllers below. • Street Fighter IV Collector's Edition headed to US

We've got good news and bad news. The good news is that the collector's edition of Street Fighter IV (announced last week) is headed to the United States after all. The collector's edition -- with the hefty price of $79.99 -- is now listed on GameStop.com. The bad news: The 360 and PS3 versions of the CE are getting different goodies. While both versions will include a soundtrack CD, strategy guide, costume DLC and a bonus disc with the Street Fighter anime movie, each will include a different Street Fighter figurine. Xbox 360 collector's edition buyers will get a Crimson Viper figurine, while PS3 buyers get a Ryu figurine. Call us suckers for nostalgia, but we'd rather have Ryu. At least we can pretend to be Ryu though, as GameStop is offering a free Ryu headband for pre-ordering either version.

Today, Capcom revealed a big box of collectible Street Fighter fun, the Street Fighter IV Collector's Edition. According to the press release, the Collector's Edition will be made available in Europe and Australia (no U.S. release seems suspect) and will include the game, a bonus disc featuring an HD quality anime movie and game trailers, a mini-strategy guide, exclusive downloadable content and two mini figures of Ryu and newcomer Crimson Viper. Even cooler is that all the bonus content comes housed in a diorama-like scene from the classic Street Fighter. RYU-KICK! Limited edition figurines of all time favourite character Ryu and the all new character Crimson Viper, positioned within the familiar settings of the 'crowded Chinese downtown'. A bonus disc containing a feature length HD quality anime movie, created specially for the launch of Street Fighter IV and a selection of the best game trailers to date. A mini strategy guide created in the style of a comic art book detailing the moves and biographies of four of the new characters to the series; Viper, Abel, El Fuerte and Rufus Exclusive downloadable game content.

Whether you are new to the franchise or you've been pumping quarters into the arcades since 1991, there's a great Street Fighter IV article over at Eventhubs everyone should check out. For beginners, there are some extremely helpful basic gameplay details. For more advanced players, they have a character tier ranking chart as well as a comprehensive guide for every single character in the game. Finally, for those of us who can't wait till February for the game to come out on the PS3, they even have an list of locations where an arcade machine could be found. Check all of that out here.In other SFIV affairs, it was reported a while back that Mad Catz will be producing the official SFIV arcade sticks. They are finally here, albeit at quite a premium. The most expensive version, ostentatiously named the "official Street Fighter IV FightStick Tournament Edition controller," will run you $149.99. It features the "exact Sanwa joystick and 30mm buttons found in official Street Fighter IV arcade machines, along with realistic spacing and an eight-button layout." A more recession-friendly version that lacks the Sanwa joystick is priced at $69.99. Finally, those of you who are really strapped for cash can select the $39.99 wireless Fightpad that contains "a circular 8-way floating D-Pad and a classic six-button layout." It comes in 5 equally delicious flavors: Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Blanka and Akuma.[Via Capcom-Unity and MaxConsole]

Just a little while ago, Capcom made an OMG MEGATON announcement regarding Street Fighter IV, confirming that February 17th will be the game's official release in North America and February 20th for our friends in Europe. That means Capcom's Winter release promise has been fulfilled. That also means that the Gamestop rumored February 2nd release date was a tad bit off. No matter, February will be the month of Street Fighter and the month of total awesomeness! [Via Joystiq]

  • Street Fighter Club takes over Brooklyn dive in underground fight night

The first rule of Street Fighter Club is: you do not talk about Street Fighter Club.In spite of that ominous rule, we have no choice but to talk about Capcom's incredibly well-orchestrated community event last Friday night. It's rare to see a games company reach out to the fans with early access to its most anticipated games. It's even rarer to see a games company conduct a PR event in a location like this: a converted bodega in the middle of Brooklyn. We were told that some of the higher-ups at Capcom were uncomfortable with the location, and for good reason too. The neighborhood wasn't "safe" nor "clean," being one of the few neighborhoods in NYC that hasn't been hit by rapidly spreading gentrification. Guys in suits would never come here. And that's exactly what this event was about: reaching out to real fans (who, as you know, don't wear suits).

  • Capcom: Street Fighter IV 'definitely' out this winter

Capcom has stated that the console version of Street Fighter IV will "definitely" be available in North America this winter (with the European release at "roughly" the same time), reports Gamespot. Now, if we're going to get technical on the meaning of "winter," we're guessing an early 2009 release, as Capcom is wont to do. This is in line with a previous statement by the producer of the Street Fighter movie that the game would release around the same time as the movie (currently expected Feb. 27, 2009)The console version of the game should be an expanded experience from the arcade version, which can currently be found in Japan and in the phantom zone where arcades still exist outside of the island nation.

In a statement to G4, Street Fighter IV producer Yoshi Ono made mention that the next Street Fighter installment will be storming retailers sometime this Winter. "At some point you'll be sitting in you winter coat looking at snow out the window ... and right then we'll kind of heat you up a little with some hot street fighter action," said Ono. "We don't want to start rumors that it's this year, but definitely this winter."So, whether it's late 2008 or early 2009, SFIV is on its way to the 360 when there's snow on the ground. Recently, Capcom unveiled the box art for a little game known as Street Fighter IV, surprising us with not one but TWO different covers. Yes sir, SFIV will actually sport two separate box art covers, one for the United States and another for Europe. And if you look above, you'll see both covers in all their glory. The left is U.S. The right is Europe. Looks to us like the U.S. got screwed.

  • Street Fighter IV producer discusses console characters, lag problems

    08.28.2008

Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono sat down with Videogamer to talk about the console versions of the latest incarnation of the classic fighting game series. He had a ton of information to share, and here are some highlights: Ono recognizes lag as a series problem for online play. They are working on a solution which involves "trying to balance it up at user interface level and input timing by using joystick or something like that." We don't really know what that means either. Parrying is gone, in case you didn't know already. Ono wants "Street Fighter IV to be a tool for everyone to enjoy" and parrying is "quite hard for the vast majority to master." There will be a story/adventure mode on the console versions. There won't be any specific console-exclusive characters, meaning we won't have to buy multiple versions of the game just to play them all. (Editor's note: Yay!) However, there will be characters, such as Cammy, who will appear in the console versions but not the arcade versions. Ono also answers questions regarding post-release patches to rebalance the game, the possibility of Street Fighter III on the PSN, and more. Check out the full interview here. [Via Capcom-Unity]

  • No console specific fighters in Street Fighter 4

Unlike a certain soulless fighting game, Capcom's Street Fighter 4 will not be doing console specific fighters due to it not being "very fair". In an interview with videogamer.com, SF4 producer Yoshinori Ono mentioned that they don't "want to give an exclusive character for any particular console," saying that "it's not very fair" to make specific fighters only available on certain platforms. And if your mind is already wandering down the downloadable content path, know that Ono says their decision to not offer console specific SF4 fighters is a rule for DLC as well. So, take that Yoda and SoulCalibur IV ... YEAH![Via Shacknews]

Street Fighter IV is unlikely to have exclusive console-specific characters (like Soul Calibur IV) when it releases next year, the game's producer tells Videogamer. Yoshinori Ono believes the idea of exclusive characters is unfair -- and that extends to "downloadable characters" as well.Yoshinori expresses that this is only his "policy," however, so we won't rule out the influence of the Capcom overlords. SF IV is expected on consoles around the time the Street Fighter movie releases in early 2009.%Gallery-21918%

Patrick Aiello, the producer for the upcoming film Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (starring Kristin "Lana Lang" Kreuk!), believes Street Fighter IV will launch alongside the film. Aiello tells GameDaily that the "film and game release dates will coincide." According to IMDB, the Street Fighter movie currently has a release date of February 27, 2009.Although hardcore Street Fighter fans may be upset that the game isn't coming out at the end of this year as originally announced, there's always the option of playing it in arcades at diverse locations on this little planet.%Gallery-21918%

Earlier last week Famistu confirmed the console versions of Street Fighter IV would feature exclusive online play (shocking, no online for arcades? Joke.) and characters, two of which have been revealed to be Bruce Lee look-a-like Fei Long and SF inside joke, Dan.This week Capcom has launched a new promotional website for Street Fighter IV. Offering the latest 'Epic' trailer and links to the blog for Street Fighter IV and the upcoming Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li movie, the site shows off little in the way of new content. Interestingly enough the site offers two pre-order methods for Street Fighter IV. One allows gamers to order directly from Capcom while the other is linked back to GameStop who is offering a collectible art book with purchase and lists a ship date of February 2, 2009. While the date may change, it give us a general idea of when to expect the anticipated fighter.[via Joystiq & Big Download]

We're really intrigued by Street Fighter IV, but not nearly as intrigued as we are by the trailer released by Capcom at Captivate08. Reminiscent of a fan-made YouTube video, the latest trailer for Street Fighter IV plays out as Faith No More's hit-song, "Epic," blasts in the background. We never thought we'd see Street Fighter marketed that way. Either way, the footage looks solid and we can't wait to get some quality time with Capcom's best-selling franchise again. Wait, Jean Claude Van Damme played Guile didn't he? Guess no one knows how Street Fighter should be marketed!

Following this morning's news that the recently announced home versions of Street Fighter IV would come packing the extra punch of online play and an expanded cast, a new report confirms two familiar fighters who will be added to the game's hurricane kick beyond the arcade. According to IGN, Japanese publication Famitsu Xbox released concept art illustrating Bruce Lee-inspired Fei Long and Alpha vet Dan Hibiki, adding that both fighters will be home version exclusives. While Fei Long certainly makes sense, the laughably weak Dan has always served more as comic relief, though we look forward to the hilariously drawn out Dan vs. Dan online throw downs to come when the game is eventually released.

A few days ago we reported a rumor that cited Street Fighter IV as an upcoming Xbox 360, PS3 and PC release--well they are rumors-no-more. Last night Capcom confirmed [via IGN] that the 2/3D fighter hybrid will land on next generation consoles as well as Windows-based PCs, continuing the company's recent support of the platform (as in Devil May Cry 4 and Lost Planet PC releases). More details regarding the title is expected at the upcoming Captivate08 event in Las Vegas. Press email after the jump.[via Joystiq]
