Those of you who aren't lucky enough to attend E3, this is not the post for you. For the remainder of you, however, we would like to let you know that Namco Bandai would like to test your Tekken 6 mettle at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo through an open tournament. The company will host a two-day "Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion arcade tournament" at its booth on Wednesday, June 3, and Thursday, June 4, with the company opening sign-ups on Tuesday, June 2, to anyone passing through Namco's area on the show floor. Namco Bandai mentions a "grand prize," though the details of what this undoubtedly spectacular prize will be were not given. We have a feeling the only thing people participating in this tournament will win is less time with the other great games at the show.

Fight fans are likely salivating at the mouth for Tekken 6 and all of its Kazama-infused glory, and will likely be even more excited by the inclusion of Force Mode in the franchise's sixth installment, a complimentary mode that harks back to the olden days of Tekken 3. In Tekken 6, you can even drop the fists for some more powerful means of dispatching countless enemies (see: big gatling gun). Not only that, but this new trailer also shows off the incredible leaps and bounds Namco has made in motion blur technology. Hey, Tekken 6, 2006 called, and it wants its cutting edge technology back.Head past the break to check out the fist-to-face action that comes courtesy of IGN.

We don't know what's taken Namco so long to bring Tekken 6 home -- it was released in arcades November 2007, for crying out loud -- but we can finally say, after a not-really-all-that-unexpected announcement that the game would be appearing on Xbox 360 as well as PlayStation 3 and seeing loads of screenshots of the console version, we've finally played it. On a real, honest-to-goodness PS3. (We checked to make sure the cables weren't running to a hidden arcade cabinet.)This was our first experience with the game, not having access to an arcade willing to shell out beaucoup bucks for a machine. But we'd played enough Tekken in the past (most recently, Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection on PS3) to be able to get a feel for this new installment. So, what makes it worthy of being one more than five? find out after the break!%Gallery-51403%

The PSP revival continues.According to a new report by IGN, Namco Bandai is bringing Tekken 6 to the PSP. Not only will the PSP version launch alongside the console versions, it will feature exclusive content, such as additional items and stages. Tekken 6 will also feature a "Ghost" Infrastructure mode, which allows players to download and share character data to compete against. It's great to see Namco Bandai throw PSP some support. So long as the team can match the high standards of Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, PSP fans have a lot to look forward to.[Thanks, Jay!]

After watching this Xbox Live-exclusive trailer for Tekken 6, we've come to realize a few things. For one, Paul Phoenix is still the most badass dude ever. Don't argue, you'll lose. Second, someone at Namco-Bandai should really proofread subtitles before they dish out a trailer, because there's a pretty hilarious bit of mangled English in the beginning. Finally, this trailer needs more Panda.%Gallery-3634%

Get a closer look. The fighting genre has come back. In 2009, players will be able to finally decide between Street Fighter and Tekken -- which brawler will reign supreme?Namco Bandai's latest batch of screens feature the same over-the-top characters and moves the series is known for. However, we're still a bit concerned. Although the release is many months away, we can't help but be underwhelmed by the visuals here, especially after Namco Bandai's 2008 effort, Soulcalibur IV.%Gallery-47695%

Namco just dropped 16 piping hot screenshots from their upcoming brawler, Tekken 6, into our quivering hands. They're worth checking out in the gallery below -- while they're all pretty gorgeous, one image in particular stuck out in our minds. We are completely ensorceled by the picture you see above. Not only because we can't wait for PETA's imminent protestations to the strong imagery shown in the screenshot, but also because it's given rise to one of our new favorite idioms. Observe:"Man, I've had one of those days that just make me want to kick a panda in the throat." %Gallery-44698%

What business does Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono have in wanting to see Namco's flagship fighter Tekken and PlayStation social network service Home come together? Ono told Famitsu (via IGN) that he'd like to see a Tekken 6 tie-up with Home, suggesting that both the Street Fighter and Tekken communities could form some sort of cross-community tournament. A sort of Fight Club perhaps? Those guys at Capcom sure love those, don't they?Speaking of Fight Clubs, Ono also revealed the possibility of a Street Fighter-themed game space. With Capcom already working on exclusive content for Home, this one is practically a given. Now, we just need to see if Namco wants to respond to Ono's invitation. Go ahead and press start Namco, we'll cue the "New Challenger" music.

There's only one King of Iron Fist Tournament. Okay, so there have actually been five of them, but who's counting, right? There's even a sixth on the way, and we've got a trailer to prove it. The new trailer showcases some CG cutscenes, complete with strange and mysterious plot elements no one really cares about. No, what matters is all those glorious (and occasionally goofy) fighters. Luckily, they're in there too, putting the smack down. They flash by pretty quickly though. See if you can spot them all!Tekken 6, incidentally, arrives this fall.

Tekken 6, the latest in Namco Bandai's seminal fighting series, will be delivering a body blow to consoles next fall. Oh wait, you say, we already knew that. True, Microsoft confirmed last October that in Fall 2009 Feng Wei, Devil Jin and the rest would strike the Xbox 360 across the face. In addition, CVG reports that the game will get an equal bout on the PlayStation 3 at the same time. The announcement was made during a recent event put on by Atari, which will publish the title in Europe on both platforms, adding yet another marquee feather in the once-struggling company's hat. Next year is shaping up to be a memorable one for fighting game fans with Street Fighter IV and Tekken 6 going toe-to-toe. So tell us, where do you place your bets?

As part of today's press conference, Atari unloaded a bunch of fresh screenshots for next year's upcoming Tekken 6 and Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. You can view the Tekken and Riddick screens below, but be warned about those Riddick screens. If you thought Gears of War was lacking color, then keep clear of Riddick's drab and dull "color" palette. Actually, it isn't so much a color palette as it is a black to white gradient. %Gallery-38363%%Gallery-35705%

var digg_url = 'http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/microsoft-confirms-tekken-6-for-360-fall-2009-release/'; A rumor we first reported on in Jan. 2007 has finally become reality. Microsoft confirmed during its pre-Tokyo Game Show 2008 press conference that Namco Bandai's Tekken franchise will appear on Xbox 360. Tekken 6 will, according to Microsoft, appear on the console in "fall 2009." The sixth installment in the series – which has been a PlayStation mainstay since the original launched in 1995 – was expected to continue console exclusivity on PS3. It will, instead, ship for both consoles simultaneously.

  • Tekken 6 in December, PS3 exclusivity in question

In a not so recent interview (it has been spotted/in print since April), Haruki Suzaki (project director for Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection) and Ryuichi Enomoto (international sales rep) talk to Filipino gaming mag GamEX Magazine about Tekken 6, which is currently out in arcades. The most important information regarding the game involves Suzaki tentatively revealing that Tekken 6 is due for a December 2008 release worldwide on consoles. However, when pressed for more information regarding PS3-exclusivity, Suzaki replied "No. It hasn't been determined yet as of the moment ..." The statement -- given how the Tekken series has been strictly placed on PlayStation platforms for the past decade -- raises some eyebrows towards the possibility of Tekken 6 landing elsewhere as well. Suzaki reaffirms that the game is still being primarily developed for the PS3 ... but with that in mind, it sounds like Namco could end up pulling an FFXIII.[Via N4G]

Yeah. They're making a Tekken movie. The popular PlayStation fighting game gets the silver screen treatment, just like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat before it. Love them or hate them, but video game movies are here to stay.Cung Le plays "Marshall Law" from the franchise, and he can be seen in costume in this newly released pic (available on his MySpace page). Looks like he's going to need to grow a mustache if he wants to complete the role. But hey, at least the pants look pretty spot on.For more details on the upcoming Tekken film, which takes place near the Tekken 6 timeline, visit SDTekken.com.[Via Joystiq]

  • Octave Engine in Tekken 6 makes waves

    by
    Majed Athab
    Majed Athab
    02.12.2008

Indeed it does. Quite literally. The Octave Engine is the world's first simulation engine to dynamically simulate hydrodynamics on a game machine. In the video, the Octave Engine shows how it accurately simulates waves and splashes in Tekken 6. Described as "natural environment middleware," the Octave Engine is not only capable of simulating hydrodynamics but also the physics of other small particle systems, like sand. In a game like Tekken 6, this technology would definitely add a touch of realism to an otherwise static fighting arena. Imagine this: two combatants are brawling on a beach; characters leave their footprints in the sand as the waves crash against the shore, slowly washing away the prints with each pass. And of course, don't forget this is happening while the characters are knocking each other into the water for some huge, realistic splashes.

The images, while not in glorious 720p, still do a great job of highlighting the stellar looks of Namco's next iteration of its classic brawler. Dark Resurrection looks good, but this looks like its in a whole new league.[Via NeoGAF]
