Steam's weekly deals kicked off yesterday, but players in the US were probably too busy lounging poolside with a plate full of hamburgers to notice – and hey, Steam users outside of the US could have been doing the same thing. It's cool; we don't judge. This week's Steam deals last until June 3 at 10 a.m. PT, and it's a big batch: Greed: Black Border, Waking Mars, Papo & Yo, They Bleed Pixels, The Guild 2, Angry Birds Space, The Adventures of Shuggy, Flatout: Complete Pack, Worms: Ultimate Mayhem and Tower Wars. All of these games are up to 75 percent off, clickable here. And again, Steam's news post says these deals last until a day in the past, this time "May 3." Don't tell anyone, and maybe we'll get these super sales for an entire year.

  • Adventures of Shuggy dev shares his sad story

We love to hear about success stories like the Humble Indie Bundle, but we try to remember that there are plenty of other deserving games out there that, for whatever reason, never seem to break free of obscurity. The Adventures of Shuggy is just such a game. David Johnston, the game's creator, lays the whole story out for Edge, including the thrill of finding a publisher for the XBLA game he's worked on since 2007 -- a thrill that turned to despair as he watched his game slip through the cracks when the publisher was absorbed by Activision. Johnston (who is considering leaving game development) paints a pretty dire picture for developers who don't have the light of Microsoft promotion shining on them, a somber reminder that, sometimes, having a good game just isn't enough.

We've already posted our (favorable) review of Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012, which leaves only one other Xbox Live Arcade release this week: The Adventures of Shuggy. A puzzle platformer with old-school sensibilities, it's just a tad different from its card-based counterpart. Check out the latest XBLA in Brief (now in HD!) and see if it flips your deck.
