Well, here it is, people. The "Epic Edition" of next week's Gears of War 3. It's a big box, packed full of some big treats. Are you the kind of gamer who wants to declare his affection for the franchise by displaying an 11" statue of Marcus Fenix in your home and/or workplace? NOICE! Scratch one consumer. Maybe you're more intellectual? How does a 96-page book titled "The Art and Design of Gears of War" penned by Extra Lives scribe (and patron saint of video game writers) Tom Bissel sound? Oh, we get it ... you want the "exclusive unlockable Adam Fenix multiplayer character" so you can play as Marcus' elderly father and use the "I've fallen and I can't get up" line. Yeah, we're bringing back that old chestnut. %Gallery-133510%

  • Sony NEX-FS100 review

We've been uncommonly keen to get our hands on the Sony NEX-FS100 ever since we first heard about it back in March. You see, this is no ordinary camcorder. Its spec sheet reads like a liturgy of filmmakers' prayers: a large Super 35mm Exmor CMOS sensor, interchangeable lenses, XLR inputs and proper, professional controls. Sure, it comes with a $6,600 price tag to match, but it also heralds a trend that should ultimately benefit pros and ordinary gadget denizens alike: the arrival of big, bold DSLR-style optics within dedicated camcorders. How do these optics effect the quality of the NEX-FS100's footage? Plant yourself somewhere comfortable and click past the break to find out. %Gallery-129298%

Depending on how interested you are in something, unboxing videos can either be incredibly exciting or the most boring things you've ever seen. Catherine's "Love is Over" deluxe edition may be a different story, however, on account of the underwear and pizza boxes.

  • inFamous 2 Hero Edition unboxed, new trailer unleashed

If you have a penchant for messenger bags, world-ending beasts and "it's totally not a toy" figurines, today's inFamous 2 news is just right for you. Beyond a thoroughly detailed photo tour of the game's "Hero Edition" (an "unboxing," if you will), Sony today released a brand new trailer for this June's third-person superhero-er. Rather than show off the game's New Orleans-inspired location as so many inFamous 2 trailers have before it, this one's all about the destruction of Cole's hometown: Empire City. Turns out that the enormous beast he was worried about in the last game is kind of a dominant force in his second adventure. Head past the break for some minor story spoilers from inFamous 1 and a whole mess of destruction in inFamous 2.

  • Hands-on and unboxing the InfiniTV 4 v2

There isn't much new about the second generation of the InfiniTV 4, but that didn't stop us from appreciating the new box and revised design. You have to look pretty hard to find the differences because while they're there, they are subtle. The card is slimmer and obviously simpler, and Ceton went with a new dongle connector that now sits flush with the plate and doesn't get in the way anymore when switching it to low profile mode. The original card had a bit of a identity crisis with Ceton brands on the front and back, but the new one is InfiniTV all over. Obviously the biggest improvement is Ceton's new found ability to produce enough of these cards to meet demand, but we'll be putting it through it's paces just in case while we wait for the other anticipated CableCARD tuners to hit the street. %Gallery-122846%

  • Droid Charge gets semi-unboxed behind the scenes at Best Buy

Still not convinced of the Droid Charge's inevitable release? Well here's some photographic evidence direct from a Best Buy backroom, you cynics! Our tipster was too excited about his triumph to tame Mr. Blurrycam or even finish unboxing Verizon's Froyo-packing handset, so the rest of us will have to wait until tomorrow for some clear shots of Samsung's 1GHz LTE beast from all angles. With luck, the unit above should be fully unboxed by then. [Thanks, Anonymous]

  • Nikon D5100 impressions, head-to-head with D7000

Nikon has stirred up the camera crowds once again with its newly released D5100, filling the industry with the buzz of a new high-resolution articulating screen. In terms of consumer DSLR options, the D5100 has taken on the role of the mid-range model in Nikon's product line between the D3100 and the D7000 and we think it assumes the part rather nicely. In terms of price, the D5100 fits right in as well, fetching an MSRP of $900 (vs. $700 and $1600, respectively for the two aforementioned camera kits). Of course, the D7000 lands you the better 18-105 f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR lens, a larger and brighter viewfinder, built-in focus motor, weather-proof sealing, and a few other internal upgrades. But don't judge too quickly, because we've had some time to play with Nikon's latest creation and the D5100 can certainly shoot along with the big boys of consumer cameras -- read on past the break for our impressions and comparisons with the D7000. %Gallery-121549%

Today, Nintendo showed up outside of Joystiq's NYC offices with seven women, all to hand deliver its newest portable system, the 3DS, in one large box. Join us in video form just after the break as we crack open the box and explore its three-dimensional contents. There's even a sweet cameo from Nintendo of America prez Reggie Fils-Aime! Okay, okay -- it's just his signature. But he totally wrote us a letter!

  • Olivetti Olipad 100 gets unboxed and handled in italiano (video)

If the extent of your mastery of the Italian language entails adding an unnecessary "a" after every other word and gesticulating with your hands, like Jen in that episode of The I.T. Crowd, you may not get a lot from the nine minute and 39 second video below. Still, it's worth at least a quick look. It's an unboxing and hands-on of the Olivetti Olipad 100, including an extensive display of the customized interface that sits atop Android and, honestly, doesn't look half bad. Performance, driven by an ARM Cortex A9, looks quite good on this €394 tablet, which works out to about $550. For the rest of the detailed impressions you'll have to drop your former pen-pal in Florence a line and see if she can translate for you, then you can lament about how you just can't get good carbonara in the States. Update: Sasha was kind enough to provide a translation. It's after the break!

  • Engadget goes hands-on with the new MacBook Pro

If you thought today couldn't get any more hands-on, you were wrong. The folks over at our sister blog, Engadget, just received a review unit of the new 15-inch MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt technology and posted lots of delicious photos for us nerds to enjoy. (Note that unlike many other Apple-branded technologies, there's no InterCap-styled 'B' in "Thunderbolt.") Unfortunately, even though the model has Thunderbolt connectivity, there aren't any peripherals yet available that use the new I/O tech. This means that we won't be seeing any speed test demos in the immediate future, however much of a thrill it would bring. But it will work out of the box with all Mini DisplayPort connectors. The model itself is nearly identical to the previous family of MacBook Pros from a visual standpoint (the only change is a Thunderbolt port vs. the Mini DisplayPort), but it's still fun to watch an unboxing. On an already-busy day, this is a must-check-out for any major Apple geek. Corrected editing error, the trackpad is identical to earlier version.

  • Leica M9 Titanium unboxed, handled with all the care a $32,000 camera deserves (video)

Even in its "standard" magnesium alloy body, the Leica M9 is an exclusive piece of kit that prices out all but the most fervent and deep-pocketed rangefinder lovers. Nonetheless, Leica has a habit of putting together even more limited editions of its shooters, one of which has recently been subjected to a thorough unboxing and video overview. Only 500 special edition Titanium M9s cameras have been produced, each one individually numbered and costing nearly £20,000 (or about $32,000) in a set with a Summilux-M 35mm F1.4 lens, also made from titanium. With a full frame 18 megapixel CCD sensor and dual image processors inside, it's a fully fleshed-out beast of a portable shooter, but you'd probably expect nothing less given the fact it costs more than most cars. Go past the break to ogle this special M9. [Thanks, Aaron] Update: Leica reached out to clarify that the M9 Titanium costs $26,500 in the US.

  • HTC Thunderbolt gets unboxed by Wirefly, Verizon delays launch?

    by

    02.08.2011

Third-party mobile retailer Wirefly has just released a seven-minute video detailing the HTC Thunderbolt's unboxing procedure in glorious detail, something that's just liable to make the wait for prospective buyers even more excruciating. Speaking of waiting, word on the street is that the phone might be delayed from its previously-rumored Valentine's Day launch; an ominous screen shot over on Droid Life says there's "no ETA at this time," a fact corroborated by Amazon's removal of the launch date on its Thunderbolt product page. What's more, in announcing its unboxing, Wirefly only says that it'll "begin selling the Thunderbolt soon" without offering a date -- so yeah, all signs are pointing to an open-ended delay here. Let's hope it stays within the short bounds of February, eh? Follow the break for the full video.

  • Early access to Verizon iPhone: One guy got his already

    by

9 to 5 Mac has linked to video of someone who managed to finagle his package out of the local UPS distribution center and get a hold of his Verizon iPhone on Saturday. This guy's camera operator flipped between portrait and landscape orientation, so if you want to get a really good look at all of it, do a bit of stretching first. I'm surprised we only have one report of this, honestly. With as long as people have waited, I figured we would see quite a few more videos and reports like this one. The image 9 to 5 Mac posted shows the iPhone in a case, the iPhone 4 box and a Getting Started guide. It appears the case is an OtterBox of some sort; the same user posted a brief video tour of his iPhone titled Verizon iPhone in OtterBox Defender Case, but the OtterBox site says all the Verizon cases are forthcoming, not actually out yet. I also checked the Verizon site, and it didn't show any either. Most people who have tipped us to their shipping status have said that their Verizon iPhones are scheduled for delivery on Monday. Hopefully the crazy weather won't delay too many of those packages, and we'll get to see more of these videos. According to its website, new Verizon customers can go online first thing Wednesday (12:01 AM PST/3:01 AM EST) -- or late Tuesday, depending how you look at it -- and order their own. Verizon iPhones will show up in stores Thursday morning at 7 AM local time.

  • Notion Ink Adams arrive to eager unboxers, first OTA brings new meaning to DOA

    by

Well, would you look at that? Oh yes, that's a real life Notion Ink Adam on some lucky guy's table after being pulled from its fresh packaging. Sure, that's to be expected considering the 10-inch, Android 2.2 tablets were boxed up and shipped out last week, but after the numerous delays, we've got to say it's a true milestone for the India-based company. However, while the unboxing videos and pictures are flowing in -- there are two right after the break for ya -- there's sadly some rain pouring down on the company's parade today. According to the chaps at Android Police, a few people have encountered serious issues with an over-the-air update that was pushed to these new tablets. Apparently, hitting the update button and installing the software has caused the Tegra 2 Adam to stop booting (picture of that sad sight at the second source link). That's surely a FOF situation (frown on face, for those that haven't listened to the recent Engadget podcast), but word is that Notion Ink has stopped pushing out those updates for the time being and emailed customers about the issue. We'll be keeping an ear to the ground on this one, but in the meantime we'll be here waiting for our review unit to arrive so we can show those amateur, wobbly-cam unboxers how it's really done.

Inside Sim Racing does not mess around. When the site got its hands on what it says is one of the first Thrustmaster T500RS units in the US (a.k.a. the official Gran Turismo 5 racing wheel), it made this epic unboxing video. Carrying a $600 price tag [Ed.'s note: Not a typo!], the peripheral is expected to ship in North America and Europe on January 5 ... which, coincidentally, is when this blogger's car payment, less than half the price of the T500RS, is due. [Thanks, Chris]

When is a YouTube video not a YouTube video? Every so often, a promotion pops up on the site that thinks outside the box, so to speak. In honor of the Nexus S (i.e. the best Android phone out there until the next best Android phone comes out), Google's re-teamed with Patrick Boivin and his ragtag group of tiny ninjas -- previously seen showing real unboxing power on a Nexus One package. We don't want to spoil the fun, so just click through and enjoy... and after all is said and done, keep an eye out for the nunchuks. Trust us.

There's more to Super Mario All-Stars: Limited Edition than an unaltered, emulated version of a game that came out in 1993. In short, it's a really nice package.
