USB 3.0 and SSDs, they were just made for each other, don't you think? Kingston certainly seems to agree, as it's now rolled out its first SuperSpeed portable solid state drive, giving it the catchy title of HyperX Max 3.0. It fits within the dimensions of a conventional 2.5-inch hard drive, but differs in being able to pump 195MB of data per second when reading or 160MBps when writing. Although pricing and availability details aren't yet available, we can expect 64GB, 128GB and 256GB varieties to crop up some time soonish. Until then, can we interest you in some unboxing and teardown action, courtesy of our brethren over at Engadget Spanish? You'll find it on video just past the break.

  • Giorgio Armani wants to captivate Galaxy S buyers with new Samsung handset (video)

Shock of all horrors, Samsung and Giorgio Armani have teamed up yet again to produce a specially endorsed handset for the fashion-conscious public. The fun thing about this oh-so-exclusive piece of Armani luxury is that it looks remarkably (read: exactly) like the AT&T Captivate that Americans have had the pleasure of using for a good few of months now. We're hearing there's some extra multimedia bundled in along with the GA brand name, so we're absolutely positive your €700 will be well spent. If you're not yet convinced, how's about an unboxing video after the break? [Thanks, Gianluca]

Unboxing videos are usually pretty tame affairs -- but that's because most games' special editions don't include bonuses engineered to scare the crap out of whomever might open them. That's the (unfortunate) case in the unboxing video for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood posted below.

  • TUAW TV Live redux: New MacBook Air unboxing video

    by

    10.21.2010

If you attended our liveblog of yesterday's Back to the Mac event, you were introduced to Sam Levin, a Bay Area PR guy who also happens to love Apple products. Sam was our man-on-the-street for the liveblog, sitting in the audience and giving us a firsthand view of the proceedings. On his way out of the keynote venue, Sam noticed a table with a pile of Apple retail bags -- a very large pile of bags -- so he walked over to see what was going on. It turns out that Steve Jobs' invitation to the press to get a hands-on demo of the new MacBook Air was actually an invitation to take one home for two months. Sam picked up an 11" model and headed for his home office. Shortly after Victor Agreda and I finished up our TUAW TV Live stint talking about the event, Sam was ready to do the typical Apple fanboy thing -- an unboxing of the MacBook Air. If you missed the live video yesterday afternoon, now's your chance to see just how thin that new device really is. Sam compares it side by side with an iPad, boots it up (note that it takes a long time for the 11" model to boot, but it's pretty fast after that), and even does a quick FaceTime chat with me on my Mac. The video is on the next page; click the Read More link to view it.

  • Nikon D7000 sold at Best Buy a little early, gets unboxed immediately

Best Buy's been a naughty retailer again by letting some people purchase Nikon's D7000 a few days ahead of its proper retail launch. Of those lucky buyers, a couple inevitably chose to document the unboxing experience and consequently we now have two videos awaiting you after the break, detailing just how neatly that black and gold box is arranged. The actual contents will hardly surprise you -- a neck strap, LCD protector, all the usual cables, plus an 18-105mm kit lens with soft pouch and petal-shaped hood are all present and accounted for -- but the thrill is in seeing the D7000 itself emerging from its plastic wrappings. You may do so just past the break.

T-Mobile's official street date for the G2 is Wednesday next week, but we knew some pre-orderers would be getting the phone early, and it looks like we've already got an unboxing to show for it. Rugged, free-spirited tipster Silverwolfe did the honors, and even managed to size the phone up against the original G2 while he was at it. Check out a few shots below, or hit up the source link for the full gallery. %Gallery-103894%

The long-awaited first shipments of the Finnish market leader's N8 handset are today finally going out, and we've gotten our hands on one of the very first retail units out there. Gaze upon the gallery below to see what you'll be getting inside the box alongside your multimedia powerhouse, and do make full use of our comments section too -- we want to hear any questions you may have about the N8 and will try to answer them in full, both here and in our comprehensive review, which is naturally coming up soon!%Gallery-103738%

  • Apple TV deliveries begin -- we have unboxing photos and video

    09.29.2010

Several TUAW readers have let us know that their Apple TVs have arrived, and reader Clint even sent us a link to his MobileMe gallery of his official unboxing of the new device. As you can see from the photos, the thing is tiny. The Apple TV comes packaged with a power cord, a remote, a small user manual, and of course, the ubiquitous Apple stickers. There's no HDMI cable included, so if you don't have one available, be sure to run to your nearest electronics store to pick one up so you can start playing with the Apple TV as soon as possible. My personal Apple TV order was supposed to arrive tomorrow; it ended up getting delivered just after I finished writing the first draft of this post. By TUAW tradition, I am supposed to film and post an unboxing video immediately. You can view this instant classic on the next page -- just click the Read More link below.

Honestly, we don't know why we do this to ourselves. Here we are, just sort of casually wanting the Fable 3 "Limited Collector's" Edition and we have to go and watch the unboxing video after the break. So now it's all we want. But look at the thing! It looks like a book! What are we, made of stone?

Swaddled in cotton, and hand-delivered by a MJOLNIR-clad stork, please welcome the newest addition to our video game family: Halo: Reach Legendary Edition. We didn't want to deprive you of the joys of living vicariously through this delivery, so we broke out the ol' DSLR and snapped off some pics, found in the gallery below. And don't worry, we'll be giving this mammoth package away to one of you soon enough. [Update: Now with shaky cam video, embedded after the break.] %Gallery-101873%

  • Monsoon Vulkano do-it-all media box starts shipping, gets unboxed

Looking for one box to rule them all? If so, you must have glossed right over Monsoon's Vulkano launch, but lucky for you, there's a reminder coming in the form of a 'now shipping' proclamation. Just weeks after the $379 mega-box -- which aims to replace all of those other STBs under your television -- went up for pre-order, the earliest of adopters have started to receive their devices. We're still waiting on a proper critique, but if you're yearning to have a glance at what the future of media looks like, give those links below a look. Just kidding about that last part, by the way. • Sony giving away PlayStation Move for block parties, along with completely wild freebies

    08.11.2010

Looking for a free PlayStation Move setup and a bunch of useless schwag? Too bad you didn't sign up for Sony's Ultimate Block Party. In the vein of the hilarious Windows 7 and TiVo promo giveaways of yesteryear, PlayStation's thrown a virtual bash that actually requires a modicum of interaction to properly enjoy this time. As this isn't a retail Move package, there's no traditional unboxing to be had, but soon-to-be-host Phil does show off a demo disk (with eight titles and uproarious setup guide) that we pray will be included in the final kit. Other than that, the promo box includes your standard array of party supplies -- PlayStation Move cocktail napkins, Sports Champions mini-frisbees, plastic soda can handles, and the gift that keeps on giving: a bag of Kevin Butler button badges. Because real boxers don't do Tupperware. Spot all the goodies at our source link.

  • Enso's Android-based zenPad 4 ships, gets unboxed and politely berated on video

    08.11.2010

Based on our experience with the original zenPad -- one that we wouldn't wish upon our worst enemy's enemies -- we had a feeling that Enso's latest crop of wares wouldn't exactly be teeming with high quality components. One kindhearted tipster of ours managed to ignore our advice and order up a $199 zenPad 4, which is just another iPad KIRF for all intents and purposes. Loaded with Android 2.1 and doused in mediocrity, this 10.2-inch tablet actually ships in a knockoff iPad box... one that proudly sports a perfectly random Internet Explorer icon on the front. Trust us, the laughs don't end there. It was also said to be about half as responsive to key presses as the iPad, and when pressing down on the bezel, it actually leaves momentary indentations that require a tick to flatten back out. Classy. Head on past the break for a purely comedic video unboxing and preview -- if you've had a rough one, you owe it to yourself. [Thanks, Michael] %Gallery-99241%

  • Logitech G700 mouse and G930 headset review

    by

    08.05.2010

Logitech's been making quality peripherals for as long as many of us have been computing, introducing some of us to our first wheel, wireless and infrared mice in the process. But when it comes to the latest in gaming peripherals, the company's not always ahead of the curve. Razer and Microsoft have had high-end hybrid wireless mice for over a year now, and the 2.4GHz wireless headset isn't exactly a new concept. That said, the company's reputation is strong for a reason, and we were pleasantly surprised to find that Logitech's created a mouse and headset that leapfrog -- rather than just catch up to -- what competitors have offered. See what we mean in our review after the break.

We don't know how often this happens, but it seems that AT&T brass are being provided with these ridiculously over-the-top packages for the Samsung Captivate that's officially launching this weekend, including bundled accessories that us unwashed masses aren't offered. • Found footage: Stop-motion iPhone 4 disassembly

    07.07.2010

The iPhone 4's insides are no secret anymore. The folks at iFixit alone have done a stellar job of documenting its every bit and bob. Still, the video above is worth watching. Created by repair firm Techrestore and composed of over 1,700 still photos, it's a highly entertaining stop-motion disassembly of Apple's latest gadget. The sound effects are a bit cheesy, but we're willing to let that go since the rest of show is so good. For more on the iPhone 4, check out our full coverage. If you're interested in the device's internal workings, check out this unofficial repair guide put together by iFixit. [via 9to5Mac]

  • Dell Streak's supposed US packaging is gorgeous, unboxed with elegance

    by

    06.29.2010

Well, the Brits ain't gonna be happy when they see this in the AM. What we're looking at here is presumably the Dell Streak's final US packaging -- a far cry from the cardboard boxes that the Englishmen are given (and let's not forget the silly photoshop error on the top). If the features list is correct, this five-inch Android phone is definitely headed to AT&T's 850MHz 3G band for now (hang in there, T-Mobile fans). Other than that, the accessories and the phone itself look identical to what we've got in London, but we totally wouldn't mind getting hold of this sexy acrylic box -- it'd make a pretty cool cradle, don't you think? Head over to the source link to feed your eyes. Update: Here's another found on eBay. [Thanks, Johnny S.]

  • Virgin Mobile's pre-paid MIFI spotted, purchased, unboxed, and photographed

Sure, Virgin Mobile's MIFI isn't due out until Monday -- but that hasn't stopped one lucky shopper from finding one on the shelves of his local Best Buy yesterday. The enigmatic reader (only identified by the initials "NS") even went so far as to include some unboxing pictures for our (and your) pleasure. Between this, and Sprint's recent Beyond Talk announcement, it looks like 2010 is shaping up to be a good year for pre-paid wireless. [Thanks, NS]

  • Motorola Droid X first (official) hands-on and unboxing! Update: video!

    by
    Paul Miller
    Paul Miller
    06.23.2010

Yeah, we kind of already saw this phone, but if you don't tell Motorola and Verizon, we won't. We just got our hands on an official, final Droid X at the NY launch event, and it tastes just as sweet. Here are a few notes: It's built of basically the same material as the Droid, but there's something almost kind of "taut" about the phone, where when you thwack it with a finger it resounds like a drum. The phone vibration seems to work on this same principle, giving it much less of the typical buzz (in the funky, cheap sense) you expect. There are three mics, and in video mode you can select between "scenes" based on which mic you want to use: outward facing for regular shoots, inward facing for narration. The third mic is up top for noise cancellation during calls. Yeah, there's not kickstand, but the EVO 4G really does seem chunky up against the Droid X, and the camera bulge on the latter is not annoying at all. PHYSICAL BUTTONS. You get your choice between Swype and Motorola's multitouch keyboard, which is really pretty great. We were typing at speed within a few seconds of using it. You can tell that the processor is fast, but the UI still has a jerky quality to it -- it's not totally fluid. We'd say that's more of an Android thing, though. The new version of Motoblur is much, much more attractive than before -- the widgets are sleeker, smaller, and less in your face. You can also resize them, and they rearrange themselves somewhat intelligently. Update: Video after the break! %Gallery-96133% %Gallery-96135% %Gallery-96146%
