The internet has democratized almost everything to the point where almost anyone can now start their own streaming service. Channel 4, a British public service broadcaster, is joining the fray by launching its own internet TV platform in the US. Walter Presents will launch in March with the stated aim of showcasing the best foreign-language dramas from across the world. Unfortunately, the victim in all of this peak TV madness is your wallet, which will be asked to shell out $6.99 a month for the privilege.

  • 'Walter' developer Blossom Minds seeks immediate next-gen publishing help

"As of today, with most known opportunities investigated, we're preparing to put the studio on hold if we can't find a solution in the next few days. Walter can't be released without a financial support for the remaining development." That's the bottom line about the bottom line from Blossom Minds, the studio founded by former Eden Games talent.Last year, the studio unveiled Walter, an adorable platformer about some water with googly eyes. It had plans to release the game in 2013 on PSN, XBLA, and Steam, but those plans have evaporated."Right after our debut trailer was released last year, we got a solid opportunity with a publisher," the studio revealed in a statement today. "As a part of this deal, besides Steam, we've been upgrading Walter for next-generation consoles (ps4 & durango), rewriting our in-house engine and boosting graphic assets. We've been working and negociating [sic] for months."However, that unnamed publisher backed out, leaving Blossom Minds in its current predicament.

Oh, now we get it – all this time we thought the healthcare authorities were telling us to drink more water, but apparently all we need is Walter, this adorable, quirky platformer. Watching the above trailer, we think we could survive off of its cuteness alone for a few months, easy.As we learned back in November, Walter is a PSN, XBLA, Steam title launching in 2013, which follows a bundle of water with eyes as he takes on an evil oil company. This is the first trailer for the debut title from indie developer Blossom Minds, a French studio founded in part by Jérôme Braune, a former designer at Eden Games. So, as the doctors says, stay healthy and drink some Walter this summer. With your eyeballs. Drink Walter with your eyeballs. That sounds about right.

  • Blossom Minds teases 'Walter,' a platformer starring ... liquid?!

Indie studio Blossom Minds has ecology on the brain with its new game, "Walter." The titular protagonist appears to be composed of two parts hydrogen, one part oxygen and a pair of eager-looking eyeballs. Walter's "uneven fight against an evil oil company" takes the form of a vibrant platformer. No further details have been announced, but we do know that Blossom Minds is targeting PSN, XBLA and Steam for its games. "It's a technically advanced game and can only be done on those platforms," studio co-founder Jérôme Braune told us in July. "We are not making games for phones or Facebook. Nothing can beat the feeling of having a gamepad in hand." Hey, that didn't stop us from befriending a courageous dolphin in EcoQuest: The Search for Cetus, did it?

  • Video: Chris the Carpenter shows off Walter the Robot's servo-powered head

We love us a good robot, the more clearly home-built the better, and it's hard to get more DIY than a bot-to-be called Walter from Chris the Carpenter at Let's Make Robots. Right now Walter exists in halves: a torso comprised of a custom chassis powered by some DeWalt drill motors, and a head with a small LCD display turned on three axis by a collection of servos. As of now everything is controlled by a remote, but the ultimate plan is for Walter to be able to locate a person, face them, and display a list of functions. We're not sure what Walter's purpose in life is to be in the future, but based on the second video below we're reasonably sure it won't be serving as a shuttle for reluctant wives. • WoW Moviewatch: Walter...about marriage

World of Warcraft, T.V., and some good comedy. What more does a guy need? According to Walter, one of the characters of the ventriloquist Jeff Dunham, a new wife. Of course his marriage isn't something that most people experience (at least I hope not, I'm not there yet, but will be someday relatively soon). But no matter what and how bad his personal problems are, they get a few chuckles from me. Legs over at Machinima.com put together today's featured piece with Walter as a small gnome and Jeff Dunham as a bald human with a black beard, all set to the audio track of one of Dunham's bits. The video itself is pretty well produced, however it could use a better audio recording of the shtick. We previously featured legs when she gave another one of Dunham's characters the same treatment: Achmed the Dead Terrorist. This video is pretty safe for work, but that might depend on where you work – it's nothing that you wouldn't hear on Letterman. So you should be safe. One of the things that caught my attention in this most was the hand gestures and movements that Legs has Walter doing. They're very much like what Dunham has him do during his shows. Right down to the shoulder rolls.

"Smokey, if you pick up that Wii-mote, you're entering a world of pain."An enterprising guy at GameTrailers has put together the entire opening scene from The Big Lebowski using the Mii channel, machinima, special effects, some clever editing, and a whole lotta patience. Hopefully this is just one of the first Wii/Mii movies we'll see coming . Someone with even more patience and stamina could actually use the different mouths to animate full-on speaking parts. These guys changed the mouths up a bit, but even better animation will undoubtedly hit at some point.Check out the video after the jump, and mark it eight, dude.

  • Mossberg rules out 1080p as "an important factor" in HDTV buying

Walter Mossberg has taken questions and given answers on everything from scratch-prone iPod nanos to toilet seats, and now he's on the hot seat taking fire from prospective HDTV buyers. Other than touting his recently purchased Pioneer Elite PRO-1140HD plasma as being his display of choice, he tackled a nagging issue concerning 1080p (or the lack thereof). He opens by stating that 1080p "isn't an important factor at all," claiming that television networks will not embrace the format "anytime soon," and that the average joe can't tell the difference between the already-stunning 1080i and 1080p in the first place. He reiterated that only "techies, hardcore gamers, and videophiles" should even take 1080p into consideration (unless you're using the monitor primarily on your PC, of course), and shouldn't postpone that impending HDTV purchase another day waiting for 1080p-capable sets to fall in price. He also mentions that while built-in OTA tuners are certainly a boon for users inclined to setup an antenna and receive such programming, acquiring most other non-network HD feeds will require a subscription to a cable / satellite provider anyway, thus potentially diminishing its importance in your purchase. Regardless, buying an HDTV can certainly be a daunting task, but in the end, Mossberg insinuates that you shouldn't underestimate your own two eyes in discovering which set will please you most.[Via digg]
