Samsung plans fuel-cell-powered cellphones

Samsung's giving a boost to the fledgling fuel cell industry, announcing today that they're developing cellphones powered by the more enviro-friendly technology instead of traditional batteries. Samsung will be working exclusively with MTI MicroFuel Cells of Albany, N.Y., initially investing $1 million. Pretty small in the broader scheme of things, but MTI itself is a moderately small company as well, with just $8 million in sales last year, so it's likely a very big deal for them. In addition to being a more environmentally friendly option, the company is betting that fuel cells will become even hotter as devices demand more power than traditional batteries can pump out.
