The Tech Virtual Test Zone opens today

The Tech Museum of Innovation's Second Life extension The Tech Virtual is opening The Tech Virtual Test Zone today, an exhibition of prototypes conceived within a virtual world by amateur artists and designers with inspired ideas.

During the course of this experiment in open source museum content creation people from more than 80 countries signed on to The Tech Virtual to either create an exhibit or contribute to an existing project. Seven exhibits were chosen from 49 completed projects to be recreated in the physical museum.

As part of the criteria to be selected for The Tech Virtual Test Zone, exhibits had to be interactive, educational and engaging for mixed audiences and have a connection to the Art, Film and Music theme as well as demonstrate the spirit of Silicon Valley.

The Tech Virtual is funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and can be found at The Tech island in Second Life.

As a part of the festivities on Wednesday, 4 June, there will be a summit on Digital Democracy in Exhibit Design held at the Tech Museum in San Jose (and streamed into the virtual world, at The Tech Virtual), featuring keynote speakers Philip Rosedale, Linden Lab founder and Chairman, and Peter Friess, Ph.D., President of The Tech.
