The Queue: World chat, flying, and legendary disappointment

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.

Hey I don't know where this idea came that I hate Death Knights.

I hate Paladins. Paladins stink guys.

Xlol asked:

What if I can't win a Silvershard MIne or Kotmogu PVP by the time 6.0 comes out? I've done Silvershard 15 times and have lost every single one of them.

Unfortunately if you can't win it then you're probably going to be out of luck. I'm not thrilled with Blizzard's decision to include a PvP requirement in the legendary quest chain to begin with, but they've realized it's not the best move and have taken it out of the requirements in WoD, so I'm not going to harp on it.

The fact is that Blizzard didn't want this to be a legendary everyone got. They wanted it to be a thing that some people were not able to achieve, and that's okay. It's okay if you can't get it; yes, it sucks, but it's okay. Try for the Warlords legendary.

Wedontbuild asked:

Q4TQ: Why the heck is there no World Chat!? I've been playing through smaller MMO's recently (LotRO, Rift, and such) and, regardless of their small size, it feels ten times bigger than WoW. Because there is an active world chat. People are talking, arguing with each other, and helping each other constantly, like a big server-wide guild. If you're sick of it, you can filter it off your chat. Wow just feels small and lonely, even joining a guild that resembles the world chat isn't the same (and finding a guild like that is HARD, in my experience). I just feel Wow would benefit greatly from this.

World chat is always something that gets brought up now and then. It's not a bad idea on face, but it's also not something that Blizzard should put in the game, in my opinion. Mainly, I think it's an issue of scale. WoW is multitudes larger than any other MMO out there; even with the sub losses it dwarfs the other games. A world chat of that magnitude on all servers would be impossible to get anything out of it.

Figure there's 10,000 people playing on a server at night. And then figure 1,000 of those might be talkin in a world chat. Have you ever tried to have a conversation with 1,000 people? Or even 100? It's darn near impossible. When we do the podcast and a couple hundred people show up in the live chats, it becomes a ruckus. When Ghostcrawler was on and we had a few thousand, it became insane; the same goes for our BlizzCon podcasts -- we'd have a team of live moderators to work the crowd. What I'm getting at is that a world chat might seem good on paper, but with WoW's size, it'd be a disaster.

Creations asked:

Will we ever see a decreased cost for flying? Flying at level 70 and 80 speeds cost 5k each, which is ridiculous. I would love to see those numbers drop to around MAYBE 2k each, which would be much more reasonable

Those levels of flying are speed boosts and are not necessary. I don't think we're ever going to see those numbers go down, and overall I don't think that we're going to see flying be more accessible. Blizzard has clearly been taking a more anti-flying approach to the game, and allowing easier access to the feature seems counterproductive at this point.
