Microsoft might just come to your aid. It recently released a Windows 10 IoT Core app (currently only for the Raspberry Pi) that lets you access a 3D printer from any Windows PC on your local network, whether it's through Ethernet or WiFi. Once it's running, it acts like any other networked gadget -- you don't have to be picky about the apps you use.
