This Kindle shares a lot with its predecessor, though there are some notable changes. Namely, the body. See, if we're strictly talking form factor here, this guy is a dead ringer for the 7-inch HDX. Inside, however, you'll find last-gen processing power: a 1.5GHz dual-core processor.

Gone is the subtle curvature of last year's models in favor of a much more angular backside that maintains a clear space between the speakers and your coffee table when laid down flat.

The Amazon Kindle Fire HD (2013) is an Android tablet with great price and specs, but its lack of access to Google's app store could be an issue for some.

Still, in the back of our minds, it’s the kind of thing some people would give as a stocking stuffer. So depending on the person receiving it, the tablet might be used with care – that or just become a throwaway come next year.
