Engadget Review

Apple’s latest MacBook Pro isn’t the redesign some are waiting for. But it’s a strong refinement of the existing formula, particularly in the speed department. For $200 more than a MacBook Air, you get a much faster machine.

  • Speakers sound great (for a laptop)
Cons

Overall, this latest entry-level MacBook Pro addresses some of the issues from the prior model, while still leaving the door wide open for improvement on others. This machine performs better, is quieter and cooler to the touch, and is overall more pleasant to use than the model it replaces or the current MacBook Air.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar delivers even faster performance and a slightly better keyboard, but the battery life could be better.

The upgrade this year is solid and does show improvements. The 2019 model isn't like the quad-core that was introduced in 2018, which was a sea-change for the size versus the dual-core 2017. But, as with most other year-to-year update, with little other in the way of an upgrade there, are always people who would prefer to hold out just a year longer.

Digital Trends
Apple’s new MacBook Pro 13 with Touch Bar is a beautiful machine, but it has several flaws, and it’s far too expensive. The update to 8th-gen makes buying a MacBook Pro viable again, but only the lack of updated entry-level options is disappointing.

The strong CPU provides impressive performance for multicore workloads, even if it is somewhat bottlenecked by the integrated graphics.Apple has shown over the last couple of years that it truly cares about the Mac lineup, and professional users especially. This latest update shows that Apple is set on giving even users on its entry-level machines a worthwhile boost to performance and functionality.

The MacBook Air (2019) improves on the previous version in very minor ways.

This is a more affordable version of Apple's most powerful laptop that's a little slower and with less storage space. It's still not cheap but, for those that want a capable laptop, it's a great buy.

Once hard to love, the entry-level MacBook Pro has with this update been transformed into a great buy

The 13-inch MacBook Pro is Apple's best ultraportable laptop, thanks to stylish looks, an excellent touchpad, and long battery life.

You can argue about Apple's use of the term 'entry-level' for a laptop that has a starting price of £1299/$1299, but this new entry-level 13-inch model is certainly better value for money than its Touch Bar-less predecessor. It's only slightly more expensive than the MacBook Air, but provides a major increase in performance. And, with strong battery life and lightweight design, it's certainly an attractive option for business users who need a speedy workhorse laptop that they can carry on their travels.
