Engadget Review

Apple’s 16-inch MacBook Pro is basically every creative’s dream machine, with a ton of power and a vastly improved keyboard. The larger screen makes it more useful than the 15-inch model it replaces, and it even has decent battery life for a workstation.

It's the no-drama MacBook Pro. And thank god for that because for people who want a big-screen, big-power Mac laptop, it's also the only option around. This year, it's a very good one.

Although Apple risks alienating some users who bought the updated 15-inch MacBook Pro just a few months ago, there's no doubt that the new 16-inch MacBook Pro raises the bar for Apple's professional laptop range. It's still expensive, of course, but the larger display, and impressive performance and battery life really throw down the gauntlet for its large-screen laptop rivals.

With a larger display, a beefier graphics chip, and (vitally and finally!) an improved keyboard, Apple's 16-inch MacBook Pro is a beyond-capable big-screen powerhouse built for creatives.

This is the best MacBook Apple has ever made...in terms of what you get: great speakers, a keyboard that really works, decent battery life (depending on what you're doing), and an awesome display. But you're going to pay a lot for it, at least $2,399. That's more than I can afford to spend on a laptop. If you don't want to spend that much and aren’t the sort of power user who needs a MacBook Pro, then you should wait a little bit and see what Apple does with its other laptop lines.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro has the keyboard every Apple laptop should have. And I really do hope that Apple brings this keyboard to the 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, as superior ergonomic comfort should not be a premium feature. But that's just the way it is for now.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is the best Apple laptop in years. The Magic keyboard feels a lot more comfortable than any Butterfly MacBook keyboard I've tried. I also appreciate the slimmer bezels, sharper display and especially the booming sound. Another key selling point for pros is the nearly 11 hours of battery life, which blows away all of Apple's closest competitors.

How much is macOS worth to you? You can say all you want that there are cheaper Windows options, and you'll be right. But, none of them bring macOS to the table. As it was before, and as it remains, a 16-inch MacBook Pro with an i9 processor is the right tool for macOS jobs that demand portability. It is not the ultimate solution to every macOS-centric computing problem, and those people that need that solution probably already know that they need to wait for the Mac Pro tower.

The MacBook Pro 16-inch isn't just the most powerful MacBook Apple's ever made -- it's also the best. By listening to its customers and taking on board the criticisms of previous models, Apple has made a MacBook Pro that improves on nearly every aspect of the iconic workstation. If you have the budget for it, this is one of the best laptops you can buy.

Apple aimed to satisfy its user demands with the 16-inch MacBook Pro, and it has produced a laptop with a lot to like. Most people won't mind the overall size increase, especially since it pays off with a bigger screen and a larger battery that provides a longer run time. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that no one will miss the butterfly keyboard, especially since the new scissor keyboard is so satisfying. The performance boosts, while not overwhelming, are still impactful--you'll notice them more if you’re into media production.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro has the keyboard Mac users have been waiting for, along with amazing speakers and long battery life. But it’s time to add more ports for pros.
