Engadget Review

HP's 14-inch Chromebook offers zippy performance and solid build quality, but ultimately cuts too many corners. The poor keyboard layout and antiquated trackpad make this machine particularly hard to recommend.

Score Breakdown

Average Critic Score

CNET
The HP Pavilion Chromebook 14 advances the argument for Chrome as a low-cost mainstream computing environment, but the laptop's most noteworthy feature is a slightly bigger screen.

70
Pocket-Lint
The HP Chromebook has glimmers - and we're certainly not talking about the sparkly plastic exterior - of being best-in-class. But when that renders an ultimately average experience it's not too much to shout about.

T3
Quite simply, there's not enough that stands out with the HP Pavilion 14 to warrant the investment.

TechRadar
This HP Pavilion 14 Chromebook is a good if unexceptional laptop, though. It's a generous size and that 14-inch screen is acceptably good, it performs very well, and though the keyboard isn't a delight, the whole thing feels like it would be a decent sidekick for a good few years.

SlashGear
The Pavilion 14 isn’t the cheapest Chromebook option, but the larger 14-inch display is the real kicker here, and it’s perfect for those that want a lightweight OS in a slightly larger package.

70
Laptop Magazine
The HP Pavilion 14 Chromebook brings Chrome OS to the big screen for a reasonable price, but the display could be brighter.

40
PC Pro
All told, we’re not sure why HP bothered to make its belated entrance into the Chromebook market with something as humdrum as this.

ZDNet
The HP Pavilion 14 Chromebook is a solid entry into the Chrome OS space that is designed to appeal to those who like bigger displays. The construction of the laptop doesn't feel the sturdiest due to the all plastic design, but that keeps the weight down for a large notebook.

The Inquirer
Although it does feel rather cheap to use due to its low quality build, HP's Pavilion Chromebook offers great processing power for the price, managing everything you'd need to do online effortlessly.

Expert Reviews
It has poor battery life, but its large keyboard makes this much more comfortable to type on than other Chromebooks.
