Engadget Review

The Switch Lite is all about portable gaming, and it shows. It's lighter, more nimble and easier to play just about anywhere. It's the ideal option if you never plan to game on your TV. And for existing Switch owners, it's a compelling secondary system.

Kotaku
It's the sort of gaming hardware I wouldn't feel bad just tossing in a bag unprotected. It's console gaming in the palm of your hand, and you can pull it out during a rooftop party without feeling obligated to share.

The Switch Lite is for people who are sitting on the proverbial fence: someone who liked the idea of Nintendo's tablet but couldn’t quite stomach a $300 price tag and who didn't really want to play games on a TV anyway.

Polygon
The Switch Lite gives Nintendo a dedicated portable on top of its hybrid portable/console without requiring another line of games to be developed or purchased. It has never been easier, or less expensive, to keep up with everything the company is doing.

Nintendo Life
Sure, it's going to be attractive to the average Nintendo fan purely because it's new hardware that looks (and feels) great, but the Switch Lite is all about expanding Nintendo's audience – and that means skewing younger and picking up all those kids that have finally grown bored of their 3DS and 2DS consoles and are eyeing the Switch's amazing library with envious eyes.

Ars Technica
The Switch Lite is by far the best portable system Nintendo has ever made. Buy it unless you can't imagine losing the ability to play on your TV (in which case, still buy the original Switch).

The Inquirer
Nintendo's proud tradition of creating simple, powerful handheld consoles continues with this focused take on the Switch's versatility. If you want a handheld that delivers the gamut of 2019's gaming potential, there is nothing close to the Switch Lite.

IGN
It's beautifully put together in a way that makes the original look and feel downright clunky, and is even $100 cheaper to boot – but that nicer form and hefty discount come at the loss of the Switch's signature flexibility, removing a number of helpful but inessential features and the ability to play on a TV, which in turn makes a small handful of games effectively unplayable.

Being tethered to a home console is not an experience I particularly enjoy, but there are millions of Switch users who disagree. With its two Switch models, Nintendo now caters to both TV-inclined and TV-averse players without alienating anyone who might be in the middle of those two categories.

The $199 Switch Lite is an excellent dedicated handheld with a fantastic game library, though it may be a bit too small for bigger hands.

The Nintendo Switch Lite is a great, compact device for those who aren't a fan of (or simply never use) the original Switch's docked mode. The design is more comfortable for portable gaming than the Switch, while boasting the same performance.
