How we score

The Engadget Score is a unique ranking of products based on extensive independent research and analysis by our expert editorial and research teams. The Global Score is arrived at only after curating hundreds, sometimes thousands of weighted data points (such as critic and user reviews).

Engadget Summary

Sure, you can record passable HD video using just about any smartphone or digital camera. But if you're ready to upgrade to a camcorder that will give you the kind of sharp, detailed footage you'll want to watch repeatedly on a big screen, the HC-X920 is well worth considering. Pocket Lint calls its picture quality "astounding," with "1080p images that will look smashing on any TV." While the HC-X920 isn't cheap, Pocket Lint points out that it has "some features that you'd get on broadcast cameras that cost at least ten times as much." Trusted Reviews likes the HC-X920's "class-leading image quality," along with good manual controls, and WiFi features that include the ability to control the camcorder using your smartphone. According to Trusted Reviews, the HC-X920 is the "best 2D camcorder on the market" and Panasonic has "raised the bar" with the model.
