'Hitman 2' introduces multiplayer versus mode

The surefire way to tell identical twins apart is to check their fingerprints and the barcodes on the back of their heads. Developer IO Interactive has released a trailer for Ghost Mode, a new addition to the upcoming Hitman 2, that brings competitive multiplayer to the series for the first time. It's a 1v1 online mode that pits you against an opponent to see who can eliminate their target as quickly and cleanly as possible. Each Agent 47's goal is to earn five points before the other, with each kill awarding a single point. Earning a point means killing the target unnoticed and hiding the body without it being immediately found. Players will lose points by eliminating innocent NPCs. There will also be pick-ups throughout, with disguises, weapons, and "Ghost Crates." Players that find a Ghost Crate can only take one item, and that item will be removed as a choice for their opponent. You won't be trying to kill your doppelganger, not even with a pair of scissors or a fish. Each player will be in their own "reality," where they can see a ghost Agent 47, including what they're wearing and what they're holding. It will, however, be possible to throw your opponent off balance by using a Ghost Coin, kind of an interdimensional totem, which when thrown in your reality to attract the attention of an NPC, will do the same in their reality. Hitman 2 is set to release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on November 13th.

Apple recently named Lara Croft Go its game of the year, and deservedly so. But the back-to-basics 2D puzzler wasn't developer Square Enix Montreal's first stab at mobile gaming. The studio was initially formed to work on a now-cancelled Hitman project for consoles and then transitioned to making premium smartphone and tablet games.Since releasing Hitman Go in 2014 the team has been quietly kicking a lot of ass in the space, launching the excellent Hitman Sniper and Lara Croft Go within roughly two months of each other. It's this type of repeat success that's afforded lead programmer Antoine Routon and his mobile-exclusive team at Square Enix Montreal the freedom to tinker with publisher Square Enix's biggest properties in fresh ways."We have a lot of creative freedom we acquired by delivering good games," he says. "What's the opposite of street cred? Exec cred?" he asks, laughing.

Eidos' Product Acquisition Director Ian Livingstone, speaking at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival, said that game developers need to create more iconic characters. Not just for games, but so they can be used in various other products as well. He showed the audience a series of iconic characters and mixed in there were game heroes ... some people in the audience couldn't put names to the characters. Livingstone said, "If we all work in the games industry, what does that say?"Eidos has definitely had a focus on iconic characters. From Lara Croft to Agent 47, to the upcoming Kane & Lynch. From what we saw of the game at E3, the characters exude bad-boy personality, which can also be seen in the trailer. Livingstone says that Kane originally looked much younger -- "a bit of a ladies' man." He says the decision was made to age him up and scar him to keep in line with the story. He also says that Lara Croft was originally going to be Lara Cruz, but then the decision was made to make her a posh British lady, so the team went through the phone book until they found the right name.

Twentieth Century Fox has released the plot synopsis for the Hitman movie, revealing that a pinch of double-0 instinct has been added to Agent 47's cold-blooded repertoire. In between dodging Interpol and pursuing those who've betrayed him, ol' 47 notices some "unfamiliar emotions" bubbling up from the nether region. Even a supposedly enhanced clone ain't immune to a "beautiful, damaged" girl, it would seem.Hitman is starting to sound a lot like star Timothy Olyphant's last flick Catch & Release, in which he falls for a woman damaged by the death and secrets of her fiancé. Uh-oh Mr. Bullock, you been typecast.

No, not Swearengen! Vin Diesel has been replaced by Deadwood's Timothy Olyphant as star of the upcoming Hitman movie, reports Ain't It Cool News. Bullock as Agent 47? Perhaps Olyphant's range as an actor will lend itself to the role of a brooding sociopath -- more so than what "The Pacifier" could bring to the big screen.Whatever the outcome, Skip Woods has completed his script, and the Hitman project has received the greenlight, with Luc Besson (Transporter 2) recently climbing aboard as co-producer. Hitman could be in theatres as early as next fall. We ain't holding our breath.
